The absence of Davis this year may have inadvertently pushed the development of Kubik along. Early in the season (before she got hurt), Davis was subbing in for Jazz when she rotated to the left pin, and subbing quite a bit for Kubik when Madi rotated out of the back row, particularly if Kubik was having issues with the block. With Davis injured, Kubik had to stay in and figure out  how to get her shots down, which she did as the season progressed. Still there were matches where Kubik or Sun were just 'off' and it would have been nice to have someone as explosive as Davis come in and jack a couple over the block.

Her leaving probably doesn't impact the team as much with the improvement of Sun and Kubik on the outside. Like most Husker fans, I dislike Texas, but it is a good spot for her to land, since it is a premier volleyball program and it is closer to home (see McClellan to Auburn and Atherton to North Carolina for less desirable transfer spots).

The fact that Cook trains his outsides to be 6 rotational players is probably another reason Elliot, the Texas coach, saw Davis as being a valuable add. For the first time this year, he (Elliot) had two outsides that were 6 rotational players. He probably liked the latitude it gave him substitution wise. I know either last year, or two years ago, in an early season match against Stanford, he got caught at the substitution limit in an extended set, and had to rotate a shorter defensive specialist through the front row which ended up costing him the set and the match. Also, Elliot probably didn't like that Lexi Sun left Texas because she didn't feel he (Elliot) was preparing her for the next level. You have to be a six rotational player to play overseas as a pro or to play on the National team.  There are no pin hitters on the national team from Texas. There are four from Nebraska.

As someone mentioned in a previous post, good luck to Capri. Not so much for Texas.

I follow volleyball more so than any other Husker sport.  Capri was explosive, but I don't think she was up to the demanding coaching which John Cook introduces.  You have to be a very tough woman to not break under the pressure that is not only put on by the coach but by the other players who would gladly take your spot if given the chance.  They are an elite program and even some of the best are not cut out for what goes into being elite.  I wish her luck.  I wish her a full recovery from what ever it is that has ailed her.  I hope we get to play TexASS and win ! 2020 Husker Volleyball could be very very special as we have all the pieces in place already, just getting better between now and then is key.

You don’t think, especially when you factor in injuries, that we didn’t get better the back half of the season.......mmmkay

I can say, without a doubt, we were not a better team at the back half of the season.  I can comfortably say this is true about the front half,  and middle too.  Winning 1 of our last 6 is not improving or are you from the participation trophy era?

Is it though? I mean Taylor had a pretty good Junior year and Senior year before getting hurt. And the jury isn't out on AM yet because he's got an all important junior year coming up. I think writing someone off before their time is up is just not a great thing to do. but do as you wish.

Or, vice versa....putting a guy up on a pedestal and talking like he is the next Joe Burrow is completely premature, but do as you wish.

  4. Great talent and recruiting are big, no denying that or arguing it.  You put better players on a roster and you SHOULD have better things happen.  But......look at how bad Texas has been with the talent they get every year.  It is just hard to stomach that we have such a green staff, from the head coach on down.  I guess our multi-decade dumpster fire has allowed for us to be a program to learn at and then move along instead of being the program where we pick up the best.   There may be some guys on staff who will turn out to be pretty good, but Im not sold on that yet and I am going to reserve those thoughts for when we actually put a winning season together (whenever that may be).  Some may find it hard to admit, but coaching probably was directly responsible for 2-3 losses this year.  That means that our coaching has to improve, even if we get better talent.

Set aside season records?  No.  That's exactly how success is measured.  People saying Frost will fix things are saying so based on faith and faith alone.  There is no evidence that things are getting better...not to mention Frost's recruitment of bad people.

    Are you f#cking kidding?

Set aside season records for the time being, you don't see any changes for the better from the Riley era? Maybe some things that will help achieve the overall goal later...

I think he has a point.  Everything we are looking at is speculation that it is progression.  We really have not done anything different than under Riley, have we?  Back to back crappy seasons that seemed about as dysfunctional as it can be is really the continuation of the Riley era but with a new guy driving the train with a fatter paycheck.  Outside of speculating on what Scott is doing, has done, and wants to do and telling ourselves that is going to mean more W's, well it is just that speculation.  To the naked eye, we all want things to appear better and want them to be better, but are they really?  Seeing the great attention the program is currently getting, keep hoping.

Lol...that will be a cold day in hell.

In all seriousness,  I wasn't trying to stir up crap. Just thought it is interesting that the best QB on our roster this season (in May peoples minds), who's father coached him in HS is now the HC of a college team near his home town.

I will say 100 hail Mary's and 100 our fathers for my awful topic and vow to only post about how terrible our coaches are and how they should be fired, or just rehash the same topic over and over again so maybe I can fit in here one day LoL.

Yeah, only voices to consider in here are the ones who post constantly......right?  Anyone thinking aloud.....lock it up.  SMDH

  8. The last 20+ years has transformed the fans.  I used to live and breath Husker football, life revolved around it.  There were years where my wife and I would only miss 3-4 games total, including away games.  Right now, I can do a lot more with my Saturday afternoon.  Lack of winning has directly related to my lack of caring.

Sorry our coaches make their decisions on actual data and not by the seat of their pants.

I’m afraid that ego plays into it.  I mean, how could Scotty Frosty be wrong and who are the fans to question him?   There lies the issue

    Nebfan,

If you can't see the difference in the entire team when Luke plays, then you have blinders on. The confidence that Luke shows is so evident when he runs the offense.

This.. the lack of fire and leadership by AM is also completely obvious.  Go with who is a leader and tha was not AM.

Luke entered in the middle of that drive and ran, what, two plays?  Threw a nice ball for sure.  Immediately after that, Mr Deer in the Headlights engineered a 13 play 60 yard touchdown drive including a clutch throw to Kade Warner on 4th and 6.  But by all means, carry on.

Yes, mr deer in the headlights ran out of bounds on 2nd down, saving IA a timeout when they had 1 left.  Overtime taken away on that very play.  A Mart is not a leader, played lost again.

  12. After Luke led us to a TD, anyone with a brain figures he comes back in a rides the momentum.  Nope, Mr. Ego Scotty Frosty, could never be wrong so deer in the headlights Martinez comes back in to again lead us to defeat.  The very audible collective groan of the stadium when #2 came back in said it all.

  13. Completely checked out, Husker Volleyball from here on out.  I sold my tix to both IA and WI back in September when the Kool Aid drunk was running wild knowing all well I'd be deer hunting for the WI game and with family for the IA game.  Until the hype build up before the spring game.....c ya

Yeah, we do that in 2020, you can sit with me at a game in 2021 (my choice).  We can talk about which December bowl game we will play in.
