Yes but a lot of Husker fans would say no bc thats too much or high risk high reward. If you were going to pay that much then what you speak of would have to be guaranteed results.

You probably aren't following my posts then.  I stated I would have a base of 5-6 million a year and then make it the rest based on performance based on record.  It would have incremental bumps based on getting where we wanted to be in year 1, 2 and 3.

I'd love if all of football would have contracts geared more toward performance incentives. But, what in God's name would make you think Nebraska is in any kind of position of power here? We've got by far the weak hand when it comes to the pursuit of Urban, so we're in no position to try to reinvent the wheel when it comes to contract negotiations, with Urban or pretty much anybody. Not to mention, to try to change the entire culture of football contracts. Great idea, but it will never happen.

Um, I'm assuming money, opportunity and incentive will spree on anyone's imagination.  It has work in capitalism and I think it could work here.

Let me ask you, would you pay 12-15 million dollars if we were 10-2, or 11-1 in two years?

Is the bolded actually correct?  I looked at his record from his record from his fourth year on because the majority of the players should have been his players.  In 2019, he went 7-6.  All but two of the teams he lost to were ranked in the top 15 at seasons end but two.  Those were KState who finished 8-5 and Okie State who finished 8-5.  I wouldn't call either of those two teams cellar-dweller.  All games lost in 19' were close games with the exception of Notre Dame in the bowl game.  In 2020, he went 9-3.  The three teams he lost to all finished in the top 20 at seasons end.  In 2021, he finished 7-6.  All but two of the teams he lost to were ranked in the top 25 at seasons end but two.  Those were West Virginia who finished 6-7 and Texas Tech who finished 7-6.  At Iowa State with his players, he has yet to lose to a team that wasn't bowl eligible.  He has only lost once to a team that finished the season with a losing record.  He has one top 10 finish.  Iowa State won just four conference games in the three seasons before Campbell became their coach.

Since he's been at Iowa State, they've pretty much fallen into the 50th-60th ranked recruiting class per 247.  In terms of coaching, he's doing a really good job with the talent he has.  Now, here's where the arguments could be had.  Can he recruit better to Nebraska than he has at Iowa State?  Only time will tell, but it appears he's a much younger version of Bill Snyder.  I think it is also a positive that he played defensive lineman, and he has coached offensive linemen.  These are the two areas where we are the most lacking.  I wouldn't be disappointed if he's named the next coach.

    Enjoyed the read.  Thanks.

Some of y'all don't seem to grasp the concept of "odds of being successful" and just want to cherry-pick data points for whatever fits your argument. When you just look at pure "odds of being successful" based on total body of work, as far as realistic (maybe semi-realistic) candidates, it's Urban and everyone else is a distant second. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you because it's not even close. I don't care if you want to cherry-pick, "but he's 58" or "but Florida and Ohio St aren't the same as Nebraska" or whatever. He's got the best "odds of being successful" by a long shot. Does that mean he's a sure thing? No, there's no such thing. Hell, we could hire Saban and he may fizzle out because Nebraska just wasn't the right fit or he's gotten old and complacent or whatever. But the odds are best with Urban and that shouldn't even be up for debate.

That's not to say someone else can't be successful, but the odds go way down. Could an up-and-comer like Matt Campbell or Lance Leipold be the next Saban and Iowa State/KU is their Sparty? Sure. But for the few of those that hit, there are a ton more who never even come close. They could work, they just have a lot lower odds of working than Urban. A LOT lower.

Of the names I've seen thrown around, plus or minus a pro or con here or there, pretty much everyone after Urban has about the same odds of being successful. I've seen a lot of arguments for and against all of them and it really comes down to all of them being a total crap shoot. And I just can't get excited about (m)any of them because the result will most likely just be rinse and repeat of more of what we've been going through. None of them has a differentiating quality that move the needle much at all.

Which is probably why I'm all in on Deion Sanders after Urban. At least he's got some differentiating qualities that would excite me. He may be a bigger risk than the rest of the prospects (not by much) but he's also got a lot more upside if he does work. At least our recruiting would instantly skyrocket (can't honestly say that for any of the others). And even if we miss on him, which we're likely to do with any of them, at least he'd be entertaining as hell along the way and have Nebraska instantly in the spotlight once again. Something we haven't had in forever.

Enjoyed your thoughts ... but of course, I'd be willing to stomach Urban.  I don't think he would be that bad.

Here's what I'd do.  I'd see if he would bite on something like what Frost was given.  Maybe, just a bit more.  Now, before you throw stones ... please, let me finish.

From there, I'd make a contract that was filled with incentives.  In that would be a bonus for B1G conferene record, a bonus for winning the East side of the conference, a bonus for winning the B1G and on upwards.  I'd also put a bonus in there for a timeline on the turn around.  In all this, I would make it specific to a period of years being around 3-4.

I haven't really seen a contract for a coach that would be really geared more toward a "performance contract".  I would set out a course for his record and then as well a few aspects related to character and the state of the program that will be maintained [and bonuses there as well].

Because he has a shorter window ... and a successful track record, this is how I would take on Urban as a coach that I think provides some necessary safe guards.

Would/will that happen ... I doubt it!  It's at least a view and an idea.

Nothing new. I said the same thing back when Riley was hired and people laughed and told me what a great hire he was and how I was in denial and how his past players all loved him and how he'd excel with all of our extra resources.

Said I still wasn't sold on Chinander last year and again I was laughed at and told I was in denial and there was no questioning the fact that he was one of the top DCs in the game.

Doesn't faze me one bit. I have high standards and I refuse to lower them for anyone.

Yes, I get you.  Two fellas in the same ship here.

Exactly how I feel about the Campbell and Leipold backers. Willing to take any decent-looking girl who looks in their direction.  At least Meyer has a track record of winning and championships and knows what it takes to be successful. In my opinion he'd do everything he can to end his career on an upswing after the disaster in Jacksonville. Resurrecting Nebraska would solidify him as one of the all-time great college coaches.

But it's ok, we can agree to disagree.

I know you seem to be getting a lot of flack.  I would be one believing that Urban would get us farther in the next 2-3 years, and probably bring us into the next crop of up and comers for him then to hand off the program to the best person.  We wouldn't be "starting over".   I don't think Urban will fumble the ball, nor put us in any scandal.  Maybe something small like what Frost did [our little "golden boy" who can'tdo anything wrong"].  Yes, I will pinch my nose for 2-3 years.  At this point I would do that because of the state of Knebraska football.

We have lost are way and I actually think Urban would want to restore :bigredn: ... and it would most definitely be a good ego boost.

I'm reminded of that thought, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.  It is my view that :bigredn: is perhaps still not at our bottom and needs to receive more humility.

Until then, I'll try to enjoy our self-made soap opera as we drown in our own pettiness and self-centeredness.  It's at least a show exposes the pride of Husker Nation.  A few will learn from this.  I am one.

I have a question for you.

Do you truly believe this is "slander"?  Additionally, since Scott has stated to multiple players that he wasn't being supported by them, do you believe that was also "slander"?  Finally, was it the right call by Frost to not show up for that olayer gathering that both TO and Trev appeared at, alo g with many former players?

@Hilltop, for me, Taylor came across as "respectful" toward Frost, despite what he really felt was surprising in regards to Frost.  All of that makes perfect sense to me.  When Frost was hired, [right, wrong or indifferent] it sorta felt like Scott was set up to be "the Chosen One".  I guess its why I've felt personally "betrayed".  I know folks laugh at me for that, but of all people I thought wouldn't bloviate, coachspeak or take shortcuts toward "restoring the order", I wouldn't have ever imagined Frost getting anywhere close to that realm.  Yet, it sounds like he did.  If that is "slander", I guess I'm guilty as well.

Here's the clip that this reminds me of ...

For me, Scott is Anakin and Steve Taylor is Obyone.

Slandering Frost, and anyone else associated with Nebraska Football, is a lot easier than trying to explain why this didn't work.  The reality is most don't have a good explanation.  I truly felt Frost cared and gave 100% effort for the first few years.  I think he began to question things early last year- the stress of the situation really showed last year.  He knew his time was up so likely checked out a bit towards the end.  I frankly could care less and won't give any of these articles or videos a click to reward them.  Here is to the next chapter - GBR

What confuses me is that Frost played in the era when the players though practices were harder than the actual games.   Boy have we gone soft and it shows.

It makes you wonder if we really could make practices harder than actual games.

In my own personal marathon training, that's how I prepared for the last 6.2 miles.   I can't tell you how many times I ran 13.1 miles at around a 9:00 pace and followed that up on Saturday with a 14-15 miler running faster and then on Sunday knock out a 15-16 miler at an 8 minute pace.

Sounds crazy.  Yet, there are so many difficulties in training where I tried to make it tougher.

    I just don't get it.

From an OU fan that was at the game. Thoroughly enjoyed the first trip back to Lincoln in years, really wished it could have been a little better game, but OU fans know what bad football feels like from the dark years of the 90s. Most of us have a lot of respect for Nebraska, always enjoy winning in this rivalry, but hate seeing them so far down. Nebraska will get it figured out, the facilities and fanbase are top notch, no reason Nebraska can’t be a competitor in the big 10. Hope you guys win out

We receive this.  We need this.  Hopefully, we fall into more humbleness and see our errors and change our mind.

    I hope.

No one remembers or cares about  your prediction.  Weirdo.

Ya, I get that.  It makes sense.  As predicted.  The same folks who bloviate some amazing outcome are also the first and worst to go to the other direction [and really only a few games into the season this time].

It's obvious that this hits a cord.  My guess is that one can look up your prediction both before and now ... and the deviation will be quite great.  It all points to your measure of fandom I guess.  Why not just stay with your prediction instead of throwing stones.

You are correct however, I am a weird.  Unfortunately, it's not another weird year.  It's just another year of awakening to those who have been asleep.

This is a good strategy to earn more rep points, well done.

Also, the notion that we can't be good fans and still realize this may be the lowest point in 70 years is ridiculous.  Get off your high horse.  How dare we dislike the sh!+ we are being fed.

Um, I was one expressing my own "dislike" and the sh!t [of coachspeak from Frost] and the folks on the "high horse" [several were even Mods] always seem to take the time to sorta put us "negative Nancy's" in our place.

It's just humorous that you would accuse a 5-7 of being on his high horse.  Prior, I was negative.  Now I'm positive.  Yet, the only type of person who would state this are the 9-3 person who now states we can't even win a game.

It all might be true ... but maybe it might be good for these folks to stop predicting.  It doesn't sound like they are very good at it.  :-)

I had us at 5-7 ... and still do.  I actually feel more upbeat/optimistic that can be achieved now.

Already have two 's to this statement.  No surprise here.

What makes me :D even bigger is that prior, your view was probably 9-3, 8-4 or 7-5 ... and now your number is probably 2-10, 3-9 or 4-8.  Wow, what a swing for folks who were so confident and slamming others view of 5-7 at the beginning of the season.  When we said that the OL was horrid ... you also .  Actually, it was like ... chuckleshuffle.

No one knows what the rest of the season will look like.  Two weeks is a long ways away and Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Minni, Wisky and Iowa seem to me like opportunities for Wins if MJ can resurrect this from the "Frost Effect".

Sure, we may not win another game ... but Wow, what DOOM and GLOOM by "the greatest fans on earth".  I'm going to believe that we can win 4 of 7 of those games and not changed my prediction.  It's all a soap opera anymore ... so keep your 's coming.

Go Big Red and hopefully we can do this together in however many Wins we earn!!  :cheers

  15. The positives:

    - We scored first ... and last.

    - We got to see that we were primed and ready and still got beat by 35.  What Frost left is obvious.

    - We have a total rebuild at OL, DL and LB.  It became very obvious.  Thats good.

    The Negative:

    - I think we lose MJ and Applewhite as coaches.

    - I think we lose more potential candidates as Hisker Nation melts before our eyes.
