I'd probably hear the thud of millions of Nebraskans' jaws dropping when that type of announcement is made.
I would imagine that the pitchforks would come out in full force!!

Calling Steve Spurrier "Ol' Ball Coach" (OBC) is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
It's "Head Ball Coach" (HBC).
CLICK CLACK!
technically, he goes by both.

It’s not only Frost who is from Nebraska on the UCF staff. There are a handful of Nebraska boys on the staff too, I wonder to what degree that plays into the final decisions made.
it would be interesting if something happened that Frost did accept the Florida job that how many of those assistants would leave him if they had a chance to be assistants with Nebraska... I would imagine most of them.

First off, welcome to Huskerboard. We have fans of plenty other programs that have stuck around after whatever initially brought them here was long over with. You're are welcomed to do the same.
Now, I visited 'Gator Country' and read through some of the posts there. There are a TON of Gator fans almost completely disregarding the fact that he's from Nebraska. I've met a lot of different people from a lot of different places, and I don't know that anybody takes more pride in where they're from than Nebraskans. I would assume that Frost is no different in that regard. Now, that doesn't mean he'll come here. Maybe he thinks it could hurt his career in the long run. Maybe his wife has zero interest in Nebraska winters. But don't disregard that "native pull". I promise you Scott is feeling it.
I agree completely with you... excellent post. thanks for the welcome.. I'm really enjoying it here. same goes for our forum, you're more than welcome to participate... I've never met a bad Nebraska fan and an appreciation for college football, in general.

34 of the 75 pages of the Frost Megathread are people telling other people this.
@B.B. Hemingway I think the soonest an announcement will be made is Sunday or Monday after the conference championship games.

Should be a really good game, I think USF takes it.
Quentin flowers is dynamic... I think it's going to be a slobber knocker because they really dislike each other and won't be surprised if it gets a little chippy... this game will come down to turnovers and quite possibly who has the ball last.

Definitely Bortles would have done very very well. Mobile and a cannon arm. Give him easy reads and let the arm talent do the rest.
I think that offense would be good for close to another 100 all-purpose yards.

First off, welcome to Huskerboard, we appreciate you signing up and coming to discuss this situation and give us your perspective on the coaching search. Obviously you guys are in full on coaching search mode and we're in a weird spot where we're looking for a coach while we still have one at the helm.
My thoughts are if Florida can lock Frost up sooner rather than later that's obviously a good thing for you folks. Once our job opens, because it will, if Florida or someone else doesn't have him locked into a contract I don't see how he doesn't end up here if he wants the job. Now he could say no, I'm not interested, and take a job someplace else, but from everything I've read he secretly has told some folks that Nebraska is his dream job. I can only speculate that he's been contacted behind closed doors and asked if he wants the job. He's a native Nebraskan, an alumni, a National Championship winning QB and is very close with Tom Osborne. I don't see how he says no if he's offered.
My guess is he's waiting to figure out what he's going to do because the season isn't complete yet and he wants to see what Nebraska is going to do. We can all promise you this, if this A.D. screws this up he'll be gone so fast it'll make his head spin. If this ends up being another Mike Riley hire Lincoln might implode............
thank you for the perspective and for the welcome... everyone here has been a class act and I'm enjoying the conversation!! @BIGREDIOWAN, I agree with every point you made... I still believe it's a toss up, and in reality, only Scott knows where he's going to end up. home is the tie that binds, that's for sure. the great thing he has going is that he's going to have his pick of schools and therefore not limited as far as choices go.

IMO, until UCF and USF join a real conference, they will always be 2nd fiddle to the big 3 in that state.
that's an excellent point.. if they keep having this kind of success, it's just a matter of time.. possibly during the next alignment..
-
UCF, along with USF, wants to be mentioned in the same conversation as the big 3 in Florida.... with ours as well as fsu's down season, they may well have accomplished just that..
the UCF/USF game is going to be a great game to watch..

UCF has had plenty of success before though. They had one really bad season, they have won a BCS bowl in this decade
they haven't done it consistently though.. consistency is what they're looking for..
food for thought:
imagine what frost's offense would look like if bortles was running his offense while he was @ ucf? would be absolutely sick

I meant at Colorado State and Alabama he had success. He brought some momentum with him when he went to Florida. Although there would be a lot of happiness around here if we had back to back division titles. Mike Riley came off a 5-7 record at OSU before coming here. Everyone had to google the guy when it was announced. Not a good way to start.
I can completely understand that... I would be irate as you guys probably were when that whole situation came about.
7 minutes ago, StPaulHusker said:In all honesty if Florida can hire Scott Frost, I will be more disappointed if Troy Walters goes with him. That's the coach Nebraska needs more than anything.
he is a phenomenal coach and it's just a matter of time before he has his own gig.

Football scoop has an article this morning and it mentions Mullen with the Florida job.
no way Mullen comes to Florida... he and Strickland have total disdain for each other from strickland's time @ Mississippi state... it's a matter of diplomacy.

At least Mac came off a winning season at the program he was at. Riley on the other hand...
there were some things that were going on in where he and administration were butting heads.. Mac had just got the 15 million dollar IPF and was getting a 60 million dollar, 130,000 square feet stand-alone football facility and after the Iowa bowl win, he openly questioned the administration's commitment to the football program... it was a real slap in the face as far as the administration, specifically Foley, was concerned... it was all downhill from there.
-
@tyrone_biggums at this point, I think UCF is hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
the greatest thing that Frost has done for UCF is that he is going to leave the program in better shape than when he arrived.. he's proved that the program can be successful.
Because of this, UCF will be able to hire a higher caliber coach than what they are historically accustomed to.

Also, OP, what your fanbase needs to do is fix all of the hate, anger, bitterness, and stop pushing out coaches that are winning you titles and divisions.
Look at what your fans are sending your QB on social media:
• “If I was your coach I would pay them to hurt you.”
• “F— you I hope you die b—-.”
• “Can you please just leave the program, you’re aids.”
• “HOW THE F— DO YOU SMILE 35-0 DOWN?!?! YOU’RE THE BARACK OBAMA OF QBS!!
• “I WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN.”It’s the kind of ugliness that tears a program apart.

IMO, Florida isn't going to have as great of a coaching search as you would like. That is another reason why I think you should go after Taggart and Norvell.
every school is going to have its share of bad apples.. having said that, the kind of of examples you have stated are not only reprehensible but also inexcusable.... there's actually a thread on this very subject on Gator Country if you would like to view it..
Mac's offense was regressing and it was clear to see and the fruits of this season has bared as much... he wasn't a good fit for the program... eerily similar to Riley @ Nebraska.

One thing to always remember with coaching searches is that most of what you hear is misinformation. It isn't easy to find out what the real information is and what is misinformation since a lot of the times the misinformation are agent leaks to get more money out of the school that their client currently works with. Mullen's name comes up every year and it already has this year. I would put money on Mullen coaching at Mississippi State in 2018.
IMO, and others would agree, what is important in a coaching search is the proper fit. You want someone that can win, obviously, but also someone that will understand the culture and history of the program. At PSU they had a coach that was anti Paterno people and their current coach respects that group and he has less stress as a result of it. He is a good fit at PSU.
At Nebraska the AD that got fired did an incompetent coaching search and brought in a terrible, terrible fit. One of the worst hires I have never seen in college football.
IMO, the best fits for Florida for this go around in your coaching search are Stoops, Norvell, and Taggart. IMO, Florida should hire Taggart. He is a Floridan at heart.
Frost runs a power spread offense. He doesn't run an offense like Spurrier. Urban's offense is more east-west than the Frost offense. The Frost offense wants to spread you out and attack you north-south vertically. Spurrier's offense attacked you vertically.
Norvell and Taggart are the names you guys should be after.
Trust me, as a new parent, you want your grandparents to be with their grandchild. It makes for a happier family.
very valid points.
I can tell you that florida does not want Taggert. after our last two coaches, the new AD knows two things
1. Florida wants a splash hire and that Taggert would not be considered as such and our fan base would have a total meltdown.
2. he's a new AD and is aware that this has to be a big hire because he wants to establish a legacy and not be in Jeremy Foley's shadow.... and that his tenure will be over before it began if he hires a dud.
Florida longs for the days of the fun-n-gun... Spurrier's offense was essentially a precursor to the spread offense that was very heavy on the passing game.. his philosophy at the time was that the pass would open up the run which was completely opposite of the 3 yards and a cloud of dust in that day and age and its pundits said that it would never work... well, the rest is history

Good morning all,
Please allow me to say that I come to your board in peace.
I've been lurking here for a little bit genuinely interested in the thoughts on Nebraska's prospective coaching search.
@seaofred92 has come to our board (Gator Country) for the same reason that I have come here and he has been nothing short of first-class and we're glad to have him there... we always enjoy rival teams, and teams fans such as yourself for good substantive conversation and are very hospitable to all visitors so feel free to drop in if you would like to.
now to the coaching topics.
Scott Frost is an excellent coach and regardless of where he ends up, a program is going to get a head coach that I forsee being a big part of the future of college football and anyone would be lucky to have him....but to be honest, I'm pretty confident in saying that nobody truly knows where Coach Frost is going to go except for Frost himself. we're not quite sure ourselves (Gator fan base) contrary to the belief that he's already in the bag and our fan base is completely enamored with him and for good reason.
As much as I like Frost, I'm actually a Stoops guy and if read between the lines there is actually a possibility that he could be our coach.
he still has a house in haile plantation right down the street FROM the OBC (Ole ball coach aka Spurrier)
Coach Stoops wife originally did not want to leave Gainesville but understood that the opportunity her husband had in being a head coach at a storied program in Oklahoma.
they both have vacation houses right next door to each other in Crescent Beach.
the OBC is not only his mentor but best friend... and he is both an ambassador and consultant for UF.
the OBC has seen the writing on the wall as far as Mac's inevitable demise and I'm sure he and Stoops have been communicating as much.
Before when coach Stoops was asked if he was interested in coaching jobs at Florida he was genuinely committed to the sooners... now he's not and he has no buyout.
I believe he still wants to coach, as evidenced in Stoops being in the box at one of the first games that Lincoln Riley coached. he could not sit down and was going crazy when his former team was making great plays.
Stoops usually comes out really quick and says no to prospective job offers... he has yet to do that and I'm sure he has been inquired about... Spurrier actually asked him himself.
Just some FYI, there are rumblings out of Tallahassee that jimbo may want to leave and is looking at the Texas A&M job. so there's another potential job opening to compete with... I'll never understand why anyone would want to be in that cesspool to begin with.. if the state of Florida was going to have an enema, they would stick the tube in @ the fifty yard line of Doak Campbell stadium... but I digress.
In another thread, I saw a prospective coach list that I thought was very interesting and I would like to throw three more names into the ring:
Chad Morris
Deno Babers (for some reason I believe he ends up @ Tennessee because Butch is gone.)
Bobby Petrino (he was actually the coach that florida was going to hire if Urbs turned us down.. but that was before "motorcycle-gate" had occurred.. truly a great offensive mind but can't seem to get out of the way of himself. UF would never consider him now because of his past antics.)
at any rate, thank you for allowing me to throw my two cents in and I'm looking forward to great conversation with all of you.
