All I gotta say is that if MJ is the best Trev can get, we're in big, big trouble.

Switching it up, what guys on the list would you be a pass on?
LeipoldCampbell
Monken (I don’t dislike him, I just prefer Chadwell)
O’Brien
Doeren
Clawson
All I know is that low-ball offers aren’t gonna cut it. This isn’t the time to take the economical “let’s try to find a good bargain” route. If Nebraska wants to compete with the big boys they’ve gotta be willing to pay big boy salaries.

Don’t get me wrong; I like Mickey Joseph — a lot. We’re both South Louisiana boys and he’s recruited some of our players. That said, I just don’t think he’s cut out to be head coach at Nebraska.

I agree wt the list. Lane would be my #1. I still like Chadwell for a G5 coach over Monken. Why do you have Aranda over Rhule? I like Aranda also but I think Rhule has more gravitas as they say.
Only reason I prefer Aranda is because I think he’s more likely to keep MJ on staff- 3

Sadly none of us matter in this situation. But if you don't wish to have your words used against you, take Hortons advice.
I don’t mind that - it’s just that for certain posters here you have to spell out every minuscule detail -

And I say, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

I thought there was no way Stoops was leaving Kentucky.
I just knew you wouldn't be able to resist making a snarky comment. He's not leaving to come here. Iowa's his alma mater... but I'm sure you already knew that.

If he loses to us, he might... and I didn't necessarily mean this season.

Of the names I've seen mentioned over the past 2 days, my personal preference would be...
1. Lane Kiffin
2. Chris Petersen
3. Dave Aranda
4. Matt Rhule
5. Gary Patterson
6. Jeff Monken

I will be disappointed though if we find out Kiffin didn't come due to $ issues
Also rumors are swirling that Stoops may be leaving Kentucky and is eyeballing Iowa (his alma mater) should they fire Ferentz

Other people who failed in the NFL - Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Success in the NFL is largely tied to having a great QB. Rhule was able to build up programs twice not just one flash in a pan. I feel like I'm usually the pessimist. No reason to be a pessimist with this hire if true.
Yeah, I'm a legendary pessimist here, but I would be ok w/ Rhule... I don't see Joe Brady coming here though

If Patterson doesn't like NIL, Rhule doesn't like recruiting, Aranda won't leave Baylor, and Stoops costs too much, where does that leave us?

It's possible that MJ was confident that Aranda was the guy, but perhaps now that has changed... hopefully not. With Aranda it might be about more than just $

Last week Sipple picked Stoops as next coach.
Sip is as unreliable as they come. I pay no attention to him anymore27 minutes ago, BIG ERN said:I still love Chadwell's offense...he would need to bring in mostly a new staff unlike Frost's decision. With that said I doubt he is in the running.
I love it, too. But he’s not coming unless it’s as HC- 1

Callahan thinks Stoops would be interested if we give him bags of money
i disagree. Dude makes plenty of $ with much lower expectations. -
Chadwell isn’t going anywhere as an OC. If he’s not hired by GT then he’ll just stay put. I do prefer him over Monken.
In regards to Rhule’s recruiting, he now has the NFL pedigree… that goes a long way with recruits.

It’s odd because yesterday the names I was hearing were Aranda, Rhule, and Petersen… yet today the media is reporting the names were Monken, Rhule, and Patterson? Maybe I’m just off (as usual)

He's not my #1 choice, but I'd be ok w/ Rhule

What a concept! Hope our new coach will have a similar plan. It's amazing what you can do with lower ranked recruiting classes when you follow this formula.
The problem is, that formula can only get you so far. If your aspirations are to win the west and compete for the conference crown, then yes it's a successful formula. But if your goal is to actually win championships, that formula isn't going to work.

Arguing who is a better program is different than which is the better job.
At one your biggest competition is Iowa, at the other its Alabama, Georgia and LSU. You have to recruit in the top 10 nationally to be in 4th place in the division.
At one the issue is that they kept their coach to long, at the other boosters and other members of the Athletic Department conspired to spread rumors that the head coach was sleeping with ex-cheerleaders in order to have them fired and had an embarrassing 'inquiry' into the matter.
Trust me guys, nobody craps on Nebraska more than me. But acting like Auburn a desirable place other than money - which we also have - is just not true.
I'm willing to bet that 90+% of head coaches would prefer Auburn over Nebraska.

The SI article confirmed that TA has a clause that the next guy (HC) has to retain Mickey.
From what I heard the new coach doesn't necessarily have to retain him, but that he's guaranteed to get paid regardless of whether he's retained or not.
Oops - I see this has already been covered
