I think people are worried that if another coach is hired, Mickey will leave.  I really like Mickey, and want him to stick around, but I don't think Mickey has "invented how to recruit to Nebraska" and other coaches can come in and be as successful.

I was worried about that too, but I don't think Coleman would've committed unless he was convinced that Mickey would be back. That said, I definitely think Brian Kelly will make him an offer after this season. Mickey, Malachi, Omarion Miller, and AJ Allen could all end up at LSU.

  2. Don't get me wrong, I like Mickey, but why are so many so keen on keeping him as HC? You can hire another top coach - Kiffin or Aranda for example - and keep Mickey on staff, since he seems to be ok w/ that. That way you're getting a double dose of greatness.

I’m pretty confident it’ll be one of the three. It’d take a very strong finish for Mickey. I’d love having Jeff Grimes and Eric Mateos here. Stoops is more a of a legitimate possibility than believed.

I just don't believe there's any possibility we get Stoops. He has absolutely zero reason to leave Lexington. He's got it made. I honestly don't think it'll be any of those 3.

  4. Do you really think there's even the slightest chance that Deion Sanders will be the next HC of the Nebraska Cornhuskers? I sure don't. An African-American coach trying to garner attention for HBCUs, taking a big-$ offer to coach at one of the most white-bread schools in the country. He'd be labeled an Uncle Tom before you know it. It's just not happening.

Everyone will leave for a better opportunity if it opens up. Would you not hire someone who would be successful if we were afraid of them leaving in a few years? No one is handing out lifetime contracts.

And Ryan Day is younger than Luke Fickell. What event would Fickell be biding his time for?

Talk of Day possibly jumping to the NFL eventually

Fickell would leave for Ohio State if it opens up. That’s the only concern I would have. He checks all the boxes, though.

Yep, Fickell's just biding his time at Ohio St. Lite until Day rolls out. No need to leave the state.

For who? That’s a nice raise for a lot of the guys I’ve seen mentioned. Under market for some others. All depends on who we’re talking about and what they’ve accomplished. Can’t really look at these things in a vacuum here. Can’t say we need to pay $10M and then go pay a Leipold or Mickey that.

I'm talking for a top-tier coach, not one of those run of the mill Joe Blows.

  8. I think MJ is giving it is best shot and is hoping for the best, but is well aware of his own limitations. There's a big difference between being a position coach and a head coach at a D1 university. I think he'll be perfectly content knowing he did his best, and remaining on-staff with a hefty pay raise and perhaps the title of recruiting coordinator.

Why do fans post on here "we demand excellence and championship football, and settling for 7, 8, or 9 wins isn't Nebraska football" and then in the same breath, say "I think we should be able to get by on paying a guy bottom of the conference in terms of salary"?  It makes no sense!!

I'd call $6-mil/year a lowball offer. You want an elite coach, you want an elite program, you gotta pay elite money.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread or his recruiting thread, but is anyone else concerned that Coleman is a project? I love his size and athleticism. NU has to take him just because he’s a freak athlete. But, I am not sure he’s an immediate contributor which many fans think he is. If he’s a WR, I guess we can have him streak down the field once or twice a quarter as a freshman, but from what I understand, he has a long ways to go as a route runner.

He’s raw, no doubt, but Mickey has plenty of experience in that regard. I think Omarion Miller could be an immediate contributor.

I dont think any one knows s#!t.  Coleman can easily decommit and go elsewhere, this announcement doesnt lock s#!t up officially until he signs and steps on campus

Only way that happens is if Mickey isn't here. If Mickey stays in some capacity, Coleman isn't going anywhere.

When does Nebraska want a permanent coach in place? At the end of the season or sometime in November? A name that is very intriguing to me still is Kalen Deboer. He is 85-11 as a coach and has never ever had a losing season as a coach. His record as a coach is impressive to me and the Washington Huskies are 6-2 right now.

But why would he leave Washington after one season?

Why the hate on BOB?  Not just from you but others. He has a good resume and connections.

Living in the heart of SEC country, the general sentiment is that he isn't very good. Bama fans would LOVE for us to take him off their hands.

Sometimes I feel kinda bad when people pile on you for being a pompous a$$ then you post stuff and I dont anymore for some reason

ZFG. I just didn’t jump on the Leipold bandwagon and I’m not going to. A bunch of people posting laughing emojis isn’t going to change my mind. They did the same thing last year when I said I wasn’t sold on Chin. Well?

    M.A. probably said it best…

Like good teachers and other professionals, some can be viewed as a-holes. That’s usually associated with their demanding nature, standards and a desire for excellence.

Well, most on here think Mickey should be hired if he goes 6-6 with NU’s cupcake schedule.

Heck, even if he doesn't reach bowl eligibility there will be a goal portion of the fan base that wants to keep him because the players "play hard" for him
