They may not even get to six wins. Their defense is the worst I’ve ever seen. With Leipold sitting at 5-7, hopefully none of the fans will want him.

Nah, according to them, winning 5 or 6 games at KU is a monumental achievement

Exactly, but not necessarily as head coach. He knows there is a good chance Mickey is coaching him in some capacity next year, whether as HC or as his WR coach. WR coach is probably even more appealing to him cause he will get way more time with him that way.

that’s what I meant, returning in some capacity.

Well, it looks like Lane should be off the list:sarcasm

Ole Miss is down rn vs LSU in 4th Q, 31-20

that’s actually a good thing for us - maybe he’ll realize how tough it’s going to be the SEC West in coming years. LSU is only going to get better

IMO, there will be a new HC and MJ will be part of that staff going forward. Anything less than this is a failure by Trev.

Gonna be tough to retain him… likely will have to make him one of the highest-paid assistants in the country. Others will be courting him. Coleman’s announcement today will reveal a lot. If he chooses us, that tells me he believes that Mickey will be back next year.

     Lane Train coming to Lincoln!!!

From what I was told, his daughter just got accepted to Ole Miss, and will start attending next fall and Lane gets to be with all of his kids in Oxford. Not sure how accurate this is, since his ex-wife lives in Cali.

Wow bro - I can't believe you actually took the time to do that. It's almost creepy... but hey, you helped to prove my point, so thanks (I guess?)

You could've saved yourself a lot of time and effort with a much easier solution...

If y'all hate Matt Campbell so much, I don't get the love for Mark Stoops.  Stoops is the SECs version of Campbell, aka guy doing a good job at a historically bad football school.

Stoops has 2 winning conference seasons in 9 seasons.  He's only finished ranked twice in 9 seasons.  He's 5-27 vs ranked teams.  He's 16-44 against teams with winning records.  He makes a living beating low level FBS teams, FCS teams, and the Vandy's of the world.

Doesn't matter. He's not leaving there; he's got it made. Low expectations and fans are happy with 8-win seasons. Also sells his bourbon which does quite well.

Urban could win a natty with a school even if they were located in Serbia. That’s how good of a coach he is, but NU shouldn’t bother talking to him because one of his assistants beat his wife according to some of the people on here. Urban is not a marriage counselor. I don’t know if he would come here or not, but it is worth a try.

the local media and bluehairs wouldn't approve.

Is there any team in the 10-15 range 'every year' in recent history that isn't in a regional recruiting hotbed?

...which again, supports the argument of why we need a big name/ace recruiter who can lure talent here.

Kiffin is the type of person that if NU hired him and he had success, he would leave for Alabama the minute the job opened. Just look what he did to Tennessee. His picture should be next to the word scum in every dictionary.

Yep - that's my biggest concern w/ him. He never seems to stay in one spot for very long.

Sure do like to try and make everything about you. Obviously a big name coach could bring in big recruits. That isn't some ground breaking take. Those guys are not coming here to coach. You can get recruits to Lincoln. Will it be a top 10-15 class probably not, but can pull top 20 classes. The development of the top talent they bring in is something that has plagued Nebraska for a long time. Hopefully they can find the right coach that can recruit and develop the talent they bring in.

Actually, it has nothing to do w/ me. I just don't like the two-facedness and hypocrisy of certain people in this fanbase.

  12. It's a funny thing: for the past decade I've been preaching about how a big-name coach could attract elite talent to Lincoln, and others here have always told me that it doesn't matter who the coach is, we have too many disadvantages (weather, low talent producing state, etc.), not even Saban could recruit here. Yet now, people seem to agree with the sentiment that a big-name coach like Meyer or Deion were to be hired, that they could attract big-name talent. I'm not understanding.

See heres the funny thing about life.  We all have conversations around here about what is a good fit or a bad fit in our program.  And this guy is all about teaching young boys to become men and put there best foot forward in life.  But we cant hire him because hes not a good culture fit, or hes to extreme of a character.  Im saying someone like this is exactly what this place needs.

You're preaching to the choir. Unfortunately the rest of the state still view him as the brash, arrogant, "Prime Time" with the gaudy chains and sunglasses

This is extremely inaccurate about O'Brien and Aranda.  You are just pushing some agenda. They are widely considered big names Nationally. Google it, watch interviews, listen to coaches in the profession. If you want to play the fan base game with O'Brien go to the LSU message boards who would rather have Aranda than Brian Kelly. Pick your poison.

I have lived in South Louisiana for the past 30+ years and I know that Aranda was one guy that LSU fans were hoping for when O was fired. The reason they're no longer mentioning him is because Kelly seems to have them moving back in the right direction with a very young and talented team. Next year Walker Howard will be QB and they have a Top 5 recruiting class this year. They'll be back on top very, very soon. As far as Bill O' Brien goes, Bama fans can't wait to see him leave. Most people in SEC country don't regard him too highly.

Good post and you stated it more clearly than what I did previously. The big question:  Do we think we can recruit at the level of OSU, USC, Mich, Bama, Georgia, Tx, OU, Clemson,  Florida to be able to get close to the playoff much less win one?  We are simply in a recruiting cold zone (figuratively speaking) and I don't think there is enough NIL money to level the field with those other big P5 names.  If we could somehow land that recruiting/developmental genious of a coach - then great. Bring it on and lets compete toe to toe with those big names.  But if we are talking about the boarder coaches and the like who run basically the same thing the big boys run - then we'll have to be content wt 7-9 wins (hopefully we get to 9 under the new B1G schedule after USC, UCLA and whomever else joins).   I've always said we need to go big now I'm thinking

GO BIG OR GO DIFFERENT  --  Get the big name coach or differentiate yourself.

    now you’re getting it. :cheers

I was talking to a long time Texas A&M fan & grad this morning at work.  We were saying something similar.    The flavor of the day is the spread - everyone runs it and THEREFORE everyone has recruited a defense to stop it.  He came out and said Nebraska needs to go back to the gritty smashmouth football they ONCE WERE.  That doesn't mean we just RTDB but that we modernize what Tom did.  Recruit to our strengths and not be like everyone else.  If we can't get a big name who can bring in recruits to compete with OSU, USC, etc, then I would be all in on Jeff Monken or Chadwell.  Both would provide an offense that would be hard to prepare for as we'd be the only one on the opposing team's schedule with that type of O.   Granted, it means recruiting 4 star and 5 star OL would be a must, receivers who can catch and block, and a RB who can take on the load.  Of course - it won't matter if the D doesn't improve.  But a more ball controlled O helps out the D in so many ways as you all know.

I said that at the start and received plenty of  -- either get a big-name coach who can recruit elite talent to Lincoln, or revert back to an option-based offense (preferably Chadwell) and recruit to our own unique strengths

  17. From another board:

Nebraska should embrace its roots and go back to the Wing-T Option that they won 3 national titles with in the 90s...they should hire Army's Jeff Monken!! I don't think people truly realize the outstanding job Monken has done at Army. I mean they won 9, 10 and 11 games in consecutive seasons. He beats Navy!! He almost knocked off both Ohio State and Oklahoma in back to back seasons. Give this guy the resources that Nebraska has!! There has never been a time like right now, where the option can make a strong comeback. Nobody runs it and therefore, nobody knows how to defend it. Its very hard to prepare for in just one week. Again...go back to what made Nebraska football...Nebraska!!

    "Wing-T Option"
