  1. I'm nowhere near as plugged in as Hedley, but the one thing I have been told over and over from a person in a position to know is that Nebraska's heavy hitters were not messing around this time and that Moos would be given all the resources he needed to get the job done right. What I really love is that Green and Moos didn't really even attempt to hide the fact that Scott was THE target. That's a huge risk if you don't know you can land him, but it sounds like that was a matter of being able to hit the right number.
  2. Love that they are locking it down on Friday evening. No need to let silly season (more job openings) get any farther down the road. Very happy for Scott. I know he wanted a shot three years ago, but in the long run, this is going to be better for him as he'll get a bigger payday, a longer contract, and will inherit better young talent than Riley got from Bo.
  3. Yeah, it just sounded a little too conveniently close for them to be putting 4.5 to 5 million out there after it was put into the media It's really interesting ladyhawke. That report from Dodd has been out there for a while, and he's pretty plugged in, but for whatever reason, very few were picking it up and running with it.
  4. UCF reportedly put a 4.5 to 5.0 million per year offer on the table for Frost. My guess is that this was more of a PR move to let their fan base know that they were digging deep to keep Scott.
  5. I've only been on this board a few weeks and it was easy to discern that Hedley had the real scoop. Jessica has simply been parroting others.
  6. Maybe Florida State? Chip would walk into a team loaded with talent on day one. Plus, if Jimbo leaves on his own to go to A&M, FSU would have no payout.
  7. Here's a crazy scenario to consider... Frost, largely due to his success at Oregon, is going to get a big paycheck. Kelly, largely due to his success at Oregon, is going to get an even bigger paycheck. Oregon could lose their HC and would end up having to pay through the nose because of the market price set by two of their former coaches.
  8. You gotta love that Scott Frost is setting the market price for coaches this off season.
  9. That's a heckuva long wait for anxious Husker fans, especially with more jobs opening. But, once again people...
  10. Still on track for a Dec. 3 announcement if UCF plays in CCG?
  11. If you haven't already done so, I don't think you will regret watching a portion of Mike Riley's press conference today. Here's the link... Riley speaks to media during weekly press conference - Click on "Mike Riley 11-20 Part 2". Start watching at the 11:06 mark. We all know Coach Riley has shortcomings as a head coach, but as a man, he is pure class. The old saying tells us that nice guys finish last, but in the game of life, Mike Riley should always be viewed as a winner, despite his football record. Why? because he treats all people, even those that despise him, with respect. I mentioned previously that after the Northwestern loss I was really debating whether or not I would attend the Iowa game. However, with the passage of time and Riley's fate now sealed, I've concluded that the only right thing to do is to support these players, and Mike Riley, one last time. I won't be walking into the stadium this Friday expecting to be disgusted by the play calling, blown assignments, or missed tackles. My hope is that we'll see a house full of Cornhusker fans that want to thank the guys who are leaving and reassure the guys that are staying by showing them why, even at 4-7, there is no place like Nebraska. And, if by chance, Scott Frost decides to glance at the highlights of the Husker game, it would sure be nice if he could see a sea of red packing Memorial Stadium.
  12. Amen Hedley. Does everyone remember that Scott Frost was the only coach Florida could talk about... until he wasn't? Then they started talking about Chip Kelly. Has anyone stopped to think about why Florida moved on from Frost? The reasons I've heard from the Gators so far.. 1) They didn't want to wait that long. 2) They weren't sure he could put together a staff to recruit the SEC. I would suggest that there may be a third reason which actually makes the most sense... He's not interested in Florida because he is going someplace else. Do I have proof? Nope. Does everything that has happened so far suggest that this is what took place? Yep.
  13. I know some think Chip Kelly is a better hire than Frost. Let's see if they feel the same way in five years. It will also be interesting to hear the true story, somewhere down the road, of why Florida did not land Scott Frost.
  14. I totally understand where you're coming from Sparker. I can only tell you why I am confident and why I believe Nebraska is not messing around this time. We are now represented by very smart men throughout all administrative levels (Bounds, Green, Moos). Bounds and Green get how serious this is and that's why Eichorst was removed when he was. The timing of that move was nearly perfect. After the N. Illinois loss, fans wanted some sign that this nightmare was going to end and they got it. Don't forget, they already knew all the crap that is coming out now about Eichorst and Devaney dictating moves within the FB program. It was surely no mistake, and no small deal, that a former Husker legend became the interim AD. The hiring of Bill Moos came out of left field for many, but given his previous experience, perhaps it shouldn't have. I've asked this question before, but have you ever heard of a new AD singing the praises of one, and only one, potential head coaching candidate? After Moos had been here a while, he was pretty emphatic about not firing a head coach during the season. The losses piled up and other big name schools started firing their head coaches yet Moos didn't flinch in sticking with Riley til the end. Yesterday I was a bit concerned about the leaking of salary information. Who would do that? And why? And then there was the amount... A 7 year contract at $5 million per year? For a guy that has been a HC for 2 years? If true, that kind of contract would be signal that Nebraska means business and anyone else would have to get into a serious bidding war. Then there is the whole unity angle. Who can unify this fan base and keep that stadium full? How much is that worth to the university? Finally, there is a fair amount of anecdotal information... How often does a guy describe someplace as his dream job? The radio color guy was really the best man in his wedding? His former HC flew to Florida to give an inspirational talk to his team? His mom and dad were both Nebraska high school head coaches that are retired in Lincoln? Yes, it's conjecture and I would hate to be wrong. But at some point, you either have to believe it or doubt it until something tangible happens. The really great news is that if Scott Frost becomes our next head coach, it will be because Nebraska is THE place he wants to be.
  15. Florida fired their head coach with multiple games to go. Tennessee fired their head coach with multiple game to go. UCLA fired their head coach with one game to go. Why? It appears that they either wanted to get a head start on a coaching search or lock down a specific candidate. Nebraska did not fire their head coach before the end of the season, Why? Perhaps it was because they already knew who their next head coach was going to be.
  16. You're absolutely right and it would be hilarious if Nebraska leaked false info directly to SB Nation about talking to Paul Johnson "if" they wanted a triple-option coach.
  17. Just think how happy you will be if we land Frost in a year when Florida, A&M, UCLA, & Tennessee are all open. We're all in the same boat. Trust the Moos...
  18. If you were wondering whether we are in silly season, you haven't read this article... Nebraska's Considering Hiring at Triple Option Head Coach... from SB Nation. Among the highlights (silliness)... - "Florida wants Frost but is concerned about his ability to bring in a staff of SEC recruiters". Okay, seriously? They really want him but don't think he could round up enough guys to recruit in the SEC? I thought you didn't have to leave the state of Florida to recruit a great team? First Frost was their top choice. Then, he was passed over because of Kelly. Now he's not good enough because he can't recruit the territory? If you didn't believe the rumor that Frost told Florida he wasn't interested, this should confirm it for you. Oh yeah, and if Florida can't get Frost, they are likely to go after the USF Coach, Charlie Strong, that was kicked out of Texas last year. - "There is a strong level of interest in Taggert (Oregon's HC) at multiple SEC schools... If the choice arose, Frost might prefer Oregon, where he used to be offensive coordinator, to Nebraska". Let me get this right. Taggart, a coach that has been well received and successful at Oregon, is going to leave after one year for any old SEC school.. AND, if he does, Frost MIGHT be interested in going to Oregon instead of being the HC at Nebraska (the job he said was his dream while he was at Oregon). Taggart has been recruiting his tail off for Oregon and their young QB, Herbert, played great in his return after injury last night. Yet somehow, Taggart is homesick for anyplace in the SEC? - "Nebraska is also considering coaches who run the triple-option, flexbone offense, specifically Ken Niumatalolo. Sources indicate that if Nebraska approached Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson, he would recommend Niumatalolo or Army's Jeff Monken, both his former assistants". READ THAT AGAIN. They actually indicated who Paul Johnson would recommed "if" he happened to be approached by Nebraska. Yep, mind blowing. Stay patient Husker fans. All of this will blow over, but we're going to have to endure crap like this in the meantime.
  19. I hear what you're saying and I understand the frustration as that is not the entirety of Frost's comment. However, the very best thing that can happen right now is for this, "Frost says talk with Nebraska are False" narrative to be the only thing anyone reports on the topic until Moos is ready to make a hiring announcement. If Frost to Nebraska is happening, and most believe it is, the less it is talked about in the media (including social) , the better. Nothing is going to happen before the UCF/USF game and if UCF wins that, it may not happen until after the conference championship game. Therefore, additional speculation only means that reporters will continue to hound Frost with questions. He doesn't want that and neither should we. As for those that are concerned about UCF making the CFP, you can stop worrying. Assuming Alabama, Clemson, and Miami are already in, here's a list of the teams UCF would have to jump in order to make the CFP... Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and TCU. Wins over USF and Memphis will not vault UCF over all of these teams. The two things that are most important in wrapping up the Frost to Nebraska deal are time (perhaps as much as 2 weeks) and patience. While Husker fans aren't typically known for being patient, this situation demands it. My suggestion on how to spend time between now and then... 1 - Watch other football games. If it works for you, cheer against the teams you hate. 2 - Become a Husker volleyball fan (if you aren't already). They are on the verge of a second straight B1G championship. 3 - Pretend that Husker basketball is fun to watch. Ok, that will be tough. 4 - THIS IS A BIG ONE - Go to the Iowa game! You want to draw a positive contrast between Nebraska and everyone else? Put 90,000 butts in the seats to watch a 4-7 football team. No other fan base does that! Some undefeated teams can't fill stadiums half the size! Sorry UCF. 5 - Wish Mike Riley well. The guy was plucked out of a crappy situation at Oregon State and offered a dream job. Who can blame him for taking it? It was a bad fit from day one and a competent AD would have known that. Riley's .500 coaching style and player development skill leaves much to be desired, but he's a Class A human being and he's never badmouthed a single person. Let him leave with a positive impression of Nebraska. 6 - Have a Happy Thanksgiving.. As Husker fans, we will soon have a lot more to be thankful for!
  20. In case anyone is wondering where our athletic director will be hanging out this week...
  21. Damon Benning asked a great question. Who leaked the information? It certainly wasn't Moos as he doesn't want others knowing what we've offered. The only one (besides someone inside UCF that shouldn't know any of this) with an incentive to leak it is Frost's agent (working to get more $$). Perhaps that is the reason Lars is sitting at 90% and not 100%?
