I know our offense will suck, but can we at least play better on special teams? Get a good return or two? Stop with the 35 yard punts?
-
It would suck to have been 5-3 and not make a bowl. I would consider this season no better than a Scott Frost season if that happens. This is our best chance left to make a bowl.

With this team, we had just as much chance of scoring a TD if not better with a run play on third down as passing and less likely to turn the ball over. We should have played it safe and at least gotten the 3. The likely worst case scenario for that is Maryland sends it to OT.

I used to think the Iowa game was more winnable than this game, but now I am thinking the opposite. We will probably lose both, but Wisconsin struggles more in these ugly games to win than Iowa does. It is too bad this game is not at home.
-
I'm a no now. We will lose close ones to Wisconsin and Iowa. The QB play is just too poor and the turnovers are killer. The playcalling on offense isn't playing to their strengths. I'd like to make a bowl just so we don't continue to be the last Power 5 school to not make a bowl game.

Jeff Sims has 47 passes this season and 6 interceptions. 32 carries and 3 fumbles. 9 turnovers on 79 plays.

Sure you can argue the pressure it puts to be up and that could have helped, but getting into FG range was not an issue for them. The point about them moving the ball up to the 30 is that's all they needed for a FG. They could have kicked probably 3 more FGs in that game.
I'm not saying a FG is bad but I don't think it is a win like everyone is acting like it is. A TD in that scenario puts way more pressure on them and our defense kept them out of the end zone well all game. It's the risk vs the outcome. A TD there I think gives us our best shot out of any scenario at a win. You play for the win.
With a third string QB with little snaps during the week and turnovers all game, running the ball would have been the smart play. Who knows, they may have even gotten a TD with how they were running on that drive. Even with just the FG, I think at most Maryland just sends it into overtime.

We need to be like the military schools and just run the rest of the season. May fumble a few times, but it is still a lot safer. We won't score any less.
-
We aren't making a bowl game.
Satterfield unfortunately will get another season.

Chubba could have been a hero and remembered for decades, but now is a zero. OC shouldn't have called two pass plays from there, though.

Might have just needed 3 to win. Maddening.
-
Why throw against the wind?
-
Is Chubba still on the team? I'd be tempted to play him even though he probably isn't much better.

Sims just totally sucks at ball security.

Got to tackle.

Don't screw this up. At least get 3.

These games wind up really skewing your perception of the team.
Our defense is doing just fine. "Good," probably. We have an overall good team and good coaching but we don't have a QB at all. This has to be the worst QB play in basically the modern era for our team.
It is hard to say they are a good team when the offense is historically bad. We don't have QBs that can throw accurately consistently and make good decisions. Our WRs and TEs have bricks for hands and can't run block. Our o-line isn't very good. The playcalling is suspect.

Should have gone conservative and not the home run shot.

I'd do FG.

Please no fumble.

Wish it wasn’t behind him… but that’s what HH does
Dead in your hands, you have to catch it. That should be a standard catch by any college level WR.
-
Gotta catch that.
-
Dang, how did he catch that? Why can't we do that?

HH was being used as a WR at the beginning of the year, so if healthy, Purdy would have been the starter once Sims went down is pretty obvious. It still does not give me any confidence in the OC or QBs.
