I wonder where we'd be if we stuck with the option all these years?  Better off, or worse off?   Hmmm...

My guess is better off than the last three years, but in today's game your ceiling with an option attack is probably 8-9 wins and bowl games. You're never getting past the tOSUs with even the best option team.

No, sometimes things are just stupid and should be pointed out that way.

Sure, but this is not one of those. It's stupid to you, but to these kids whose lives revolve around social media and their following it might be one of the coolest things they can do. Ultimately, what goes on these kids jerseys should be more about what they want than about your convenience of knowing who it is. Every school publishes a roster with numbers so you can go look up any player whenever you want.

Did you think any QBs recruited after Martinez were going to come in and compete for the job right away? Or did we hear they all needed a year or 2 development. That’s what I remember the narrative being

Unless you're getting Trevor Lawrence every QB is going to come in with the expectation of development. There are very few if any true freshmen QBs who can unseat an returning starter.

Do the top schools take project QBs or the best available every year? The top teams go get the best they can. I remember the Osborne staff talked about how their job was to recruit over the current kids on the roster. Not say oh we have good players no reason to try to get a kid who could beat Martinez

Where did I say they weren't trying to get better players? The post I quoted acted like Frost has only taken projects which isn't true. I guarantee if they could have gotten a better QB this year they would have. Frost and staff have said the same exact thing about recruiting over players on the team.

I am hoping that with Frost speaking about helping AM this year, we finally see a positive progression of AM 1.0.  I'm with you on the development of a guy.  To date, we appear to have the inability to develop a QB.  Find guys that are not "project" guys.  The staff still seems to struggle with the basics ie time management, penalties etc....Trying to develop and improve the coaching acumen seems like continued issues.  Still not sold on Verduzco.  TBH, I am not sold on Held's ability to develop a RB.....

I think it's more fair to say that Nebraksa has recruited 2 non projects and 2 projects. AM wasn't a project QB and neither was Smothers. He had legitimate interest from across the country, but committed to Frost and shut down his recruitment. McCaffrey was a project at QB, but after taking AM the year before it was likely to go that way and he was great player. Haarberg is a project QB, but when he committed we had three 4 stars on the roster at QB so it was likely to be a project year anyhow.

Well....not only is Corcoran likely to be drafted someday, it'll likely be much higher than Jaimes.

Jaimes revealed zero about culture problems other than he wasn't interested in being part of the solution.

That's sort of what I took away too. He doesn't sound like someone who was interested in being part of the culture solution. We tried, didn't work, I left before the season was over.

Supposedly the story goes he was a 3rd-4th round grade, and that was his max if he stayed in the FCS. He thinks he's better than that, and can play his way into a higher round with a solid year in the P5. And we have a coaching staff that, despite on the field results, clearly sells well. So, here he is.

I'll take a player who hears he could be drafted, but instead decides to go work his tail off to show he's better than that. We can use as many players on the team with that mentality as we can get.

  8. Don't think the Duck-R or the small WR is going away in Frost's offense. However, putting some focus on big WRs and physical running backs could make it a much better position. In the B1G if a defense has to account for a good running game and physical, deep threat WRs they are going to struggle to stop a small, quick, shifty guy in the Duck-R from eating them alive. The problem with the position to date is an often dismal running game and the lack of any deep passing game.

Agreed that he improved last year. Though I believe he is at or near his ceiling as a player already and I would prefer he moves on and Farmer, Clark or NPG get the time in back there. Farmer alone had two more interceptions in one half last season than Dismuke has had in his career.

Really going to be interesting to see how the squeeze goes in the secondary.

I agree that seeing more of Farmer, Clark or NPG seems appealing, but if Dismuke comes back and he's at his ceiling and those guys can't get a starting position over him that's not a great sign for our safeties. I'd rather him come back, get beat out by those three and provide solid depth and good special teams.

Collin Miller basically @ing Tony Butler without mentioning him directly lol

Calling him out on his work ethic haha there must have been some real locker room divide the last couple years.

  11. I hope Wan'Dale doesn't leave, but if he does I don't know that I blame Frost as much as some. Wan'Dale probably hadn't been home in months in the middle of everything going on and then he went home and it probably felt great to be with family. Then if his family or others he's close to are pushing him to come home it might be too much to overcome.

My wife and I went back to our hometown at Christmas time and both of us ended discussing moving home in more seriousness than we ever had. It was just so nice to be around family and friends. A couple weeks later and we aren't feeling that quite as much, but we still talk about.

If Wan'Dale decides to go home I can't blame him and people can disagree with me, but I think it's more about being home than it is a statement on Frost or NU.

  12. I think you really do have to leave it up to the players at this point. If they are mentally done pushing a bowl game does no good. However, it didn't seem like a team that's ready to quit tonight.

Over the second half of the season the defense has improved and the offense has done some better things. I think if you can get one more game and build on some positives for next year it could be a big win.

  13. Mills is a solid RB, but not explosive and with this offense you need at least one explosive back. I don't think you can write off Scott at all yet he's a freshmen in a weird season. Johnson is strange to me, in his limited game time this year he seems like he has great speed, can catch and hits holes well. Maybe his blocking isn't where it needs to be? Thompkins is injured, but man you can see the potential there. I think Morrison has been injured as well and is a freshmen so it's just a tough year for this group. I think at least one of these guys could emerge next year.
