My mistake on the plea, but you're still wrong on your main point: this is literally a criminal matter.

Thanks for pointing out when I'm wrong.  Just to clarify, I said I didn't think this was a case of "obvious criminal activity" and I gave examples of murder, rape, assault, etc.  Are you equating those with what MO is accused of?  It sure sounds like it.   If you are going to call people out, get your facts straight first.

The internet is fairly new. As times change, there are new reasons to add laws. Revenge porn law is directly related to how easily this stuff can get disseminated to hundreds/thousands/millions of people. That wasn't possible to this extent or even close to it 20 years ago. California is just the first state to have one. If other states think it ends up working well in California, I'm sure it will be adopted by more of them.

And that is not at all what I meant by intent. I was talking about the intent of the law, not the intent of people posting videos of naked people. The intent of the law is to punish people who post porn videos of others in order to get revenge on them. IMO, the intent of the law was not to punish people for sending a video back to the person in said video. However if Washington thought it was sexual assault (I don't think he did), then the law should apply here too, imo. And there are cut and dried cases where you can prove guilt if you have access to comments made by the parties posting the videos.

If you think posting porn without the subjects' permission is a freedom of speech issue, I don't know that it's worth discussing with you anymore.

Not at all what I said and I need to clarify that I am not referring to the felony charge of child porn possession he is facing.  It is the "revenge porn" law that I have an issue with.  I certainly don't condone "revenge porn" as it is typically interpreted.  However, I think legality issues involving phones and social media, etc should be decided at the federal level. Otherwise as soon as you cross a state line your guilt status has now changed, meanwhile your cell signal is bouncing off towers in the other state.  How do they enforce that?  How can they prove you were in possession of your phone and not someone else?  And will they subpoena the GPS history of your phone to see what state your phone was in at the time?  What if the recipient was in a state that had no such law?   All this for a disorderly conduct misdemeanor?

The first amendment allows for "freedom of speech and expression".  How do people "speak" and "express" themselves nowadays?  For better or for worse it's often thru social media, cell phones, etc.  Therefore I think the these laws should be universal throughout the nation.  That's just the way I feel about it.  If you don't want to discuss it further, that is fine, but please don't make false insinuations.

He's literally been charge with a crime, plead not guilty, and has a court date set.

He has not entered a plea yet.  His court date is June 12 to enter his plea.  Look if Frost wants to boot hime for the Cali thing, he can. I just don't think he will.  Punishing him for it makes little sense to me as well as I"m sure the courts will take care of that. Had he been a member of the team when it happened, then some sort of punishment from the team/Frost would be expected.  I think that is an important factor here, but who knows.  We'll see how this all shakes out.

The law isn't ridiculous. IMO, cases like this weren't the intent of the law (he sent the video to her, not to other people), but the law should exist. Revenge porn can do a lot of damage to a person and there should be serious consequences for it.

I have a big problem with the reliance on "intent" that this law has. If the law should exist then why isn't it universally adopted by other states?   It's too vague and near impossible to prove guilt without making assumptions.  I think laws like this that approach First Amendment discussions should be determined at the federal level.

To be fair, mistakes made in your past can and often will be held against you in the present. How many celebrities and politicians do we have to look at for this evidence? Apples to Oranges comparo.  Mo's at a19yr old true freshman college athlete who may have violated a ridiculous CA law before enrolling here.  Not even close to what we hear about celebrities and politicians.

Frost would be well within his right to issue some of kind team-related punishment. Sure, Frost can do whatever he wants here.  I never said he couldn't.  I just don't think he'll go there. We'll find out eventually.

At the very least, he brought negative publicity to the program and his teammates, along with a slew of other logistical and PR headaches.  Overstated IMO. I'm sure not too many people outside of some Husker fans will care too much about this latest "incident".  I doubt his teammates are concerned with this "negative" pub.  More likely, they're going to support their brother. Maybe he'll run some stadium stairs or get a talk'in to, but they won't kick him to the curb like so many HB members want to.

The point is I don't think it's relevant whether it's retroactive or not. It would be reasonable for Frost to treat it the same either way.

I disagree. Do you think Frost wants to be the coach who punishes for past indiscretions which occurred prior to a player being on campus?  Iowa and Wisky coaches would have a hay day negatively recruiting against us for that. All the bad press and likely embarrassment Mo has gotten from the California thing is punishment enough IMO.

If Frost found out a player did something awful before joining the team, it would be perfectly reasonable at that point to kick him off the team because he found out the player wasn't who he thought he was. You could argue the player misrepresented himself or lied by omission.

We’ll of course if he killed someone or committed assault, rape or robbery, etc. I wasn’t referring to obvious criminal activity.

This is is not the case here.

  8. Wow. Lots of knee-jerk reactions here.

He won’t be punished by NU for the California thing as he wasn’t even enrolled yet. Do you really think Frost wants to start a precedent of retroactive punishment for what players did before being a Husker?

The weed thing— Who cares?  It’s a minor infraction. He’s probably stressed out about all the BS in Cali. You really want to toss a kid out for that when our POTUS has done ten times worse things and half of us are apparently ok with that?

Unbelievable folks.  We don’t need a team of future Sunday School Teachers ( no offense if anyone here is).

I fully support Frost and think he’s a very good coach and we are going to win a lot of games with him.

That said, last year’s northwester loss is partly on him with his decisions at the end of the game.

That was a factor.  The feeling I had during the game that day was that we had no business losing, but still managed a way to do just enough to get another L. The officiating didn’t help, but the Huskers hurt themselves too many times.

I desperately need a W over NW this season to help me get over experiencing the NW student section chanting “O and six” at us while we were leaving our seats.

Northwestern rarely loses in Lincoln.   That has to be kept in mind.

They haven't faced a Frost led Husker squad in Lincoln yet.  Last year in Evanston, our discipline problem wasn't cleaned up yet (stupid penalties, poor technique).  Plus NW had zero penalties CALLED on them the whole game, which having attended the game I still maintain was a bunch of B.S.

I actually don't agree with the 250 post count decision.  While it will work at keeping out the uber trolls, it will also reinforce the echo chamber it can become.  But not my call and not a forum I venture into often, so have at it.

I also don't agree with it.  Why was 250 decided on?  It punishes those who post occasionally on topics of interest and don't just go post a bunch of non-sense all the time.  How about basing it on how long you've been a member rather than post count?  Seems to me like a better way to keep the trolls out.

Typically BTN does not show the whole game. So I'm pretty sure we'll see the start of our game ....but we'll miss the end because of the next one.

Good to know. I’m working today so have the DVR set to record.  Maybe at some point they will show the entire game when they need program fillers.  Thanks.

  13. Ohio State’s spring game is on BTN at 11:00 and NU’s at 1:00. How’s that going to work?  Spring games are longer than two hours aren’t they??

I’m sure they will tune into the Huskers about half way through the second quarter.   We’ll miss all of AMart just so we can see Tosu’s 6th string team play.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but I don’t trust BTN to not screw us over.

Erstad's been here longer than Miles and has barely accomplished more. Moos has shown he's not f#&%ing around with expectations - I think Erstad has this year and next to do something really impressive before he's out.

I want baseball to be better too, but moving to the B1G did NU's baseball program no favors.  Worse weather.  Worse competition.  Baseball will not likely ever generate significant positive revenue, so I don't see Moos losing much sleep over it.  Also, with Erstad being a stud NU baseball player and a good punter in the 90's glory years--I think he's pretty safe.  Who knows what Moos thinks though.

    • Hire hometown golden boy Scott Frost - check

    • Hire bona fide new basketball coach with roots/connection to Lincoln - check

    • Start on a massive top of the line facilities upgrade - coming soon

    • Resurrect the baseball program with a new hire - TBD

    • Have a statue built and ride off into the sunset - TBD

Unless the program tanks big time, I don’t see Erstad going anywhere in the foreseeable future. I get the feeling Moos likes him.
