You vastly overstate the competition in the west.  Wisconsin took a big step back on defense, Iowa and NW are who they are, very beatable even for a poor NU team last year.

You do realize we lost to all three of these teams last season and also Purdue.  How exactly is that vastly overstating the competition in the west?  Are all four of these teams going to suck this year?  Were not the only team that may improve in 2019.

I know everyone's excited about Frost and the new staff and culture, etc. and I am too, but we still have to beat the teams we have struggled against in the past couple years.  There's also a mental aspect doing to that.  Are we there yet?  I don't know.

The West is going to be wide open this year.  If our D and ST don't step up, winning the West seems very unlikely IMO.  Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa and NW all had superior defenses last year.

Glad you guys do all this stressing so Frost has time to just coach...  The nervous tension is increasing!  Just think, we only have about 175 days until our next game.  I have zero stress-

No stress here either. I just want improvements on both sides of the ball. I think we’ll see that, but I finally convinced myself to ignore preseason hype about unproven players and the potential of the team to be really good. I used to do that and got burned every year. We’re on the way back to being contenders, but it’s going to take time and I’m good with that.

It will be more than fine

washington plays - may miss opener

bradley will be fine had personal issue that got ironed out

mills makes it- Frost has had success in figuring out who can make it in or not

i was highly sceptical of Washington’s eligibility last year- he made it

    remember

robinson and jones rotate into the backfield as well on the hybrid rb position

    offense is fine

    defense is the concern

Unfortunately crap happens. Injuries, transfers, arrests or other legal issues.  I think your banking on best possible case scenario regarding the offense.  The defense is still a huge concern and will need to take a huge step forward for us to be in the conversation for being a West Division contender.  Too many are assuming we’ll make a 2nd year UCF type leap. That isn’t happening in the Big Ten.

I agree for the most part, but Frost took over a program where he hasn't been recruiting for the past 5 years. Cupboards are pretty bare - relying on a lot of young guys which will be fine down the road.

Ultimately, I am not, and will not worry about the offense. Our teams will go as far as our defense will allow us to. People can talk about pass rush etc all they want but to win the B10 you have to have tough nose guys who can take on blocks and tackle. We got ran over several times last year against good opponents.

Excellent post. Anyone who thinks we’ll win more than 8 needs to read this over and over again until you remember how pathetic we were against the run at times. I don’t care how good the offense is. If they can’t get on the field because the D can’t stop the damn run, we will be lucky to win half our B1G games.

Show me the evidence! So far - nothing. Cohen is a lair, period. Adam and company are involved in scams, jail time is waiting and they are scared.

I’m guessing more evidence will coming out when the Mueller report is eventually released. When the house completes this investigation, along with Mueller’s findings, there likely will be sufficient evidence to impeach.  Depending on how strong the evidence is regarding any possible criminal activity, Trump may decide to resign so he can be pardoned by Pence. If he finishes out his term and then gets prosecuted, I doubt any pardon would be coming his way.  We’ll see how it all plays out, but things aren’t going well for Trump.

What happens if they don't respond?

I would imagine they would likely be grilled as to why they didn’t respond if they were to eventually get subpoenaed to testify. Their lack of response could also be used to bolster future obstruction of justice charges if they were deemed less than cooperative down the road.

I’m against banning “assault” type weapons

How would one’s life be adversely effected by the banning the sale of “assault “ weapons going forward?  I’m a gun owner so I’m clearly not anti-gun, but I’ve never heard a good compelling reason why civilians need to own assault weapons (AR-15, AK-47,etc).  Just curious.

The only punishment I think is appropriate is for MW for keeping a video and sending it to the girl with the intent to shame her.

How does anyone other than Maurice know what his intent was.  I'm sure the prosecuting attorneys want all of us to assume that his intent was to shame her because it fits so nicely in their shiny new law, but if we take a step back and think about all possible scenarios, then actual intent gets a little harder to prove.  I, personally can't stand the word "intent" included in any legal definition. It relies too much on assumptions to prove innocence or guilt.   So far with what all has been reported as facts, at this time Maurice appears to be guilty of nothing more than misdemeanor possession of child pornography.  If this were to be the case, then there should be consequences, but it is entirely different than the theoretical creep with 1000s of pics of 8yo's that Olddominionhusker described above.

  9. In regards to his potential future status on the football team, remember this all happened before he was enrolled at NU. That’s no excuse for what he may have done or legal consequences he may face, but IMO it does factor into his potential future playing football here going forward. That should eventually be up to Frost and NU administration and will likely not be determined until after any potential legal consequences get determined.

I love the optimism, but a 10+ win season is outrageous. I agree that all of the games on the schedule are winnable, but with an uninspiring defense and new starters on the offense, we will have several close games. I chose 8-4 with losses to Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Purdue.

Ohio State) I know we played them close at the shoe, but I believe they were playing below their potential during the middle stretch of the season. We did not get their best. With most of their coaches returning and the distractions eliminated, they will be a dangerous team. Plus they are stocked with more talent than everyone except 2-3 other teams in the country.

Minnesota) Sure, we beat them last year, but that second half after the quarterback change was terrifying. They continued to improve after switching D-coordinators and finished the season with wins over Purdue, Wisconsin, and GT. Plus they were an extremely young squad, they will be dangerous in year 0.

Purdue) This past loss did not feel that close to me,  we were not a threat by the second half. Their offense will continue to improve under Brohm.

Wisconsin) Game felt similar to the Purdue contest. When was the last time we beat them?

Caveman’s right folks. Time to temper your expectations. This is a marathon. Not a sprint. We aren’t going from 4-8 to 10-2 in the Big 10. The right staff is in place and the culture is changing, but it needs a couple more years until we’re among the top tier, which is essentially what 10-2 is.  If I’m wrong and we go 10-2 I will gladly eat crow.

  11. I don’t see more than 8 wins unless our D and ST make huge strides.  I also banned myself from drinking the koolaid this year so I’m taking a cautious approach.  The future is bright, but I still think we’re another year or two away from being really good.

What do you know to make this claim? It's no less outlandish to say this, than to suggest he may be an eventual option at AD.... And to be clear, I wasn't calling for him to be the next AD. I'm just of the opinion that it'd be an interesting option to look into.

Do you think he’d have his current title if he didn’t help reel in HCSF?

I wasn’t referring to your post specifically earlier. No need to get defensive.

  13. What exactly has MD done to lead some of you to believe he can be an effective AD at NU?  Nice guy?  Scott’s friend?  Made a nice catch?  Good at color on the radio?

I don’t get it. I like the guy, but he’s fortunate to have the job he has now.

  14. A lot of posters are calling bowl games “meaningless.” I’m just curious as to why you think they are more meaningless than any other non-championship game?  I get that if you’re in the hunt for making your conference title game then your games become more meaningful.  Or maybe your team is a potential playoff contender so you must win all games. However, non-conference games have no bearing on that. Aren’t they also “meaningless “ and therefore should be skipped by good players for fear of getting injured?  In other words, if your team loses more than a couple games or isn’t contending for a conference title, why even finish out the season?   To get to 6 wins so you can play in a “meaningless” bowl?  Point is:  bowl games are not meaningless to everyone.  If you skip playing the bowl,  you are selfishly letting your team and fans down.

I think the requirement should be 7 wins, but they're going to keep doing a lot of bowls as long as they're profitable.

It’s hard to believe they’re still profitable, but the majority must still be.  I agree they’ll keep them going as long as there’s money to be made.
