I think the requirement should be 7 wins, but they're going to keep doing a lot of bowls as long as they're profitable.

It’s hard to believe they’re still profitable, but the majority must still be.  I agree they’ll keep them going as long as there’s money to be made.

ESPN actively owns 14 bowl games and airs 35 of the 40.  Bowls aren't about the schools or student athletes or fans or attendance.  They are about live content for the ESPN family around the holidays where a lot of people have time off and will watch just about any football you let them.  The talking heads that slam these student athletes for sitting out a meaningless game to protect their future are simply towing the company line looking out for their employer.  They want the big name players playing in these games that they are heavily invested in is all.

That’s probably how it is now, but the conversation I was replying to was about the original intent of bowl games. They’ve been around longer than ESPN.

The original intent of the bowl game was to be a meaningless exhibition.

I would imagine it had more to do with making money for schools, bowl committees, and host cities, giving student athletes good experiences with all the pre-game activities, etc. and allowing a team to finish the season with a win.  I think the bowls are becoming more meaningless with the playoffs, bad attendance and athletes choosing to sit them out, etc.  So maybe it's time to re-evaluate their value.

I'm baffled at how it can baffle you. I'm also surprised more players didn't do it before. They're skipping one meaningless game to avoid the chance of missing out on millions of dollars by getting injured.

If this is the case, then maybe the bowls need to go away.

NU is competing with conference teams for many of the same recruits. I want those conference teams to be as bad as possible, so those recruits choose NU and not NU’s opponents.

As far as national perception, as long as NU wins, that will take care of the national perception. I don’t want NU to have to depend on help from their conference breathren.

Agree 100%.  I'm tired of this "root for your conference" crap.   I want NU to be dominant.  When we get there, maybe I'll root for the conference, but I doubt it.

Nick Henrich - Big time get

Wandale Robinson - Between his ability and lack of guys ahead of him, I think he's a lock for a DAY 1 IMPACT PLAYER

Bryce Benhart - Will push for playing time next year - I could see him start at RT and Farniok move inside

Ty Robinson - Big time get

Rahmir Johnson - I like speed

Darien Chase - Speed to burn and receiver room is open

Jackson Hannah - Great pair with Henrich for years to come

Jamie Nance - Same as Chase

Chris Hickman - Might have to wait his turn but has potential

Quinton Newsome - DBs need some help

Mosai Newsom - Might be a steal

    Garrett Nelson - Monster motor

Michael Lynn - Probably moves to the interior but will be solid there

Matthew Anderson - Comes through as a solid OT

Jimmy Fritzche - Frost's projection works out

We'll see how it plays out, but this is  SPOT ON IMO.

Don’t backtrack, at least own your your assumption.

What did I assume?   And how was that back tracking?  Why are you so stuck on me owning some imaginary assumption that you dreamed up?   I own what I said.  Not what you think I mean in all your cynical glory.  Seriously.  What's your deal dude?

Ahhh there it is, the obligatory “This recruit will start from day 1!” post. It just isn’t a legit offseason without irrational over hyping of HS kids who have yet to step foot on campus.

So being excited to watch a highly touted recruit ,who happens to play a position of major need,  and stating that" I wouldn't be surprised if he starts" is irrational over hyping?  Look, our ILB play this past season left a lot to be desired.  So yes, I happen think Nick can come in and contribute right away if he is healthy this spring.  However, I would hardly consider any of this "over hyping".

I wouldn't be shocked next year if he's in the two deep either, but Nick doesn't have the body composition necessary for starting in the Big Ten at the moment. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Hannah makes more of an immediate impact than Henrich does.

He doesn't now, but neither does Young.  I'm basing my original prediction on Nick being able to play in the spring and Duval doing what he does best and add some good weight.  6'4" 215 (or whatever he is now) plus 15 lbs of good muscle will take care of that.  I do agree that Hannah looks pretty darn good too.  The future at linebacker is bright in Huskerland.

Have not attended any of Nicks games due to the state that I live in ; however I do know the current status of our roster and have a Degree in Exercise Science, so I have an idea what weight lifting and nutrition can do for an athlete. I just don't see the point of starting a player when we have a capable talent ahead of him. No matter what, Nick will be a special player at Nebraska.

Well the current roster couldn't pass #5 on the depth chart and to me that is concerning.  I think we have some solid ILbs currently, but other than Mo Barry, they need to step up their game.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure the fact that weight lifting and good nutrition are beneficial for athletes is pretty common knowledge around here.  Congrats on the degree, though.

I have. There's no way he would have started over Young or Honas this past season, barring injury.

If I would have seen better angles and tackling from Young, I would agree.  We didn't see much of Honas unfortunately.  I just feel that Henrich is going to excel at stopping

the run.  That is something that has been missing at ILB for a while.  Mainly, I just wouldn't be too shocked if Henrich is at least in the two deep next year.
