Well Ashley Williams did for warn us in the sense that he committed to us bc he wanted a spot on the team and that he didn't want to lose out if his scholarship wasn't going to be available down the line. Don't know if that is the right/good enough reason to justify committing but Nebraska took his commitment. I want him on the team but if he isn't fully in then it hurts the team in the long run.

So I'm curious. Were there any coaches that tweeted after his commitment? The coaches can't comment on a recruit by name so they may or may not have said he could commit.

Our family will be cutting off financial support for NU because of this going forward.

I too am outraged that he's still wearing overalls. Should definitely go with a cutoff and jeans - it's more modern...

Yeah, I understand MJ coming back couldn't have happened. What I meant was the focus on recruiting in Omaha in general by the NU. It makes sick to see the top talent in the state leaving, especially considering the limited number of D1 players that the state is capable of producing in the first place.

I think he may have meant that in- person recruiting was not allowed due to COVID so the staff literally could not go to Omaha, though apparently it didn't stop other coaches...

I agree that the metro recruiting needs to pick up though.

Ditto. Reduce prices of concessions and I might actually spend money on something other than a pop to chase my hooch and plan my meals for before/after the game.

Some of the design ideas look more like a MLB atmosphere or football for leisure/casual fans, like watching the game from a sports bar or my home. Why would I pay $300 to watch a game like I already do? Or pay $1000 for a pregame buffet, like I’m rolling Warren Buffett dough?

Also, lack of student section getting any attention wreaks of corporate preference over fan experience.

Pipe dream idea and I know this won’t happen, but it would be a cool to somehow find a way to get every grade school kid in the state to attend a game. Considering the lengths they go to to sustain the streak, this could aid in keeping that streak alive and also promote the program for the youth.

Are you volunteering to drive a bus full of 3rd graders 400 miles from Scottsbluff to Lincoln and back again?

It's true that football is a team game....11 players doing their part.

However, on offense only two players touch the ball on virtually 100% of the snaps.

Hard to blame the fumble versus Michigan elsewhere as an example.

So... the center and the QB?

So is everyone just running the wildcat now, or is the QB just throwing the ball into the stands every play?

It isn't just about Frost's record, though. It's about his failure to fix glaring problems three years running - like special teams.

If we start winning 9 games and the obvious underlying driver of those 9 win seasons are having fixed the systemic problems he has, then I'll give him all the credit. Well...I might give Alberts a fair share, as well.

Anyway, yeah - it'd take a real curmudgeon of a person as a Bengals fan to not see the glass as being at least half full on Taylor. That's crazy.

Not arguing that he shouldn't have fixed things sooner, but a couple things make this less black and white.

    1. Undefeated season at UCF got him thinking he knew the best way to do everything.

    2. COVID messing with practices, schedules, etc.

    3. He tried bringing in new specialists and a new analyst, it just failed miserably.

I read this last night and decided to sleep on it.   This morning I'm just lost.  If what SSO is saying is true in his post, it points to a complete s#!t show of coaching on the offensive side of the ball. You wonder why it took so long to cut bait with some of those guys.

You have players not being coached up with instant feedback but rather hoping mistakes will be addressed later, on film á la the Callahan years.  That might work in the NFL but college kids are a different story.

You have coaches not wanting to recruit even within the borders of Nebraska. How can a team that has the cards stacked against them in recruiting employee any coaches that aren't into, or aren't any good at, recruiting?

Then you have coaches being buddy buddy with players.  It's like a hodgepodge of the worst mistakes from our previous three or four coaches.  Will this program ever figure it out?

The alarming part is all this is was happening on Frost's watch.  His calling card was supposed to be an offense that dominated while the defense held up long enough to get the offense the ball back.  Instead it's been the other way around.  It's just head scratching that Frost allowed this kind of "commitment" to the job to go on while his product was burning down all around him.   He either couldn't see it or wouldn't address it.  Either way it makes me wonder even more about all the little decisions we've all seen from Frost.

For all the talk of fixing the culture in the locker room it's sounds like the culture in the coaching offices needed to also be addressed.  Hopefully that happened this fall but is common sense learned or is it innate?

I think one of the worst things that happened for Frost's development as a coach was UCF's perfect season. It was a great accomplishment, but it got him thinking that everything they did needed to be replicated exactly. One of those things was the pace of practice and just getting more reps in rather than fixing anything the same day. It's unfortunate that it's taken this long to adjust.

Sean Callahan posits that Dawson will move to DL but keep the boundary OLB (who is basically a stand-up DE anyway), Chin will take the field OLB.  That frees up a spot for Busch to be the STC and still hire a RB coach (leaving Beckton at TE).

I would think Busch could also help with a defensive position, right?

Assuming he has less snaps over the QB's head during his college career than Cam. Not sure if that's a kept stat but Cam has to be a record holder in that category. He did a better job snapping the ball this year 3 years later but how many games did he cost us his first 2 years?

It was bad when he started out, yes, but if you think we're the only team that has had trouble with that, you don't watch enough football. Plenty of bad snaps in the conference championship games and NFL games the past couple weeks.

Why would we move the one successful coach on offense? How about a GA for RBs? Make Ron Brown a GA.

Because he's a great teacher and RB's need a dedicated coach all the time.  TE's can work with OL for blocking, WR's for routes,  and RB's for backfield and HB looks.

  11. I'd be willing to bet a lot of the people ticked off about how slow this process is going were also frustrated that Frost brought his entire staff with him back when he was hired. You can't have it both ways. He is likely doing his due diligence.

The fact is, trying to get 3-4 coaches who are great teachers and mentors is not easy. Trying to get 3-4 coaches who will mesh well with each other and the current coaches, as well as be able to put together a solid offense and recruit, and oh by the way, actually want to come to Nebraska right now, is a big time challenge.

Am I prepared to be underwhelmed, of course. But I at least think Frost is thinking outside the box of guys he's worked with and trying to find guys he can learn from. That's what Saban does. He surrounds himself with the best coaches and tries to learn new things from them all the time.

I don't know if he'll make the right hires, and even if they're announced tomorrow we won't really know until next fall if they work out. One thing I do know is I'll be following closely and cheering them on, just like most of you suckers. GBR!
