I get it. But what about our number one recruit right now and the competition he plays against? Saban even flew out to see him.

It makes no sense to hold that against the kid. He should be dominating the competition. Once he gets to the D1 level it is about getting them adjusted to the game and developing their game. This staff is more concerned about developing players and their abilities, not the competition.

Mods must be snoozing cause he is N

I'm not hating or holding anything against him. Just made a statement that i would like to see how stacks up against  some bigger dudes this year.

I agree things are looking pretty good.  But if I’ve learned anything the past 10 years, it is that this program can crush hopes in a hurry!

One thing i have learned is dont count on any kids being here until they are actually here. At any school for that matter.

  3. Good thing about this kid is he plays against some top notch talent here in the Houston Area. My nephew goes to this school as well. Ill go watch a few games this season and see what's up..

Could you elaborate on this a bit? What coaches have clung to the past? Because honestly I just don’t see it.

Callahan and Riley absolutely didn’t. Bo kind of embraced the past, but I don’t think he was ever terribly preoccupied by it. He did things his own way. Frost would make the occasional reference or bring in a teammate from the 90’s to give a pep talk, but at the time, Frost was as modern of a coaching candidate as we could get.

I hear this “Stuck in the 90’s” or “Stuck in the Past” trope constantly but I really just don’t see it. If Neb was stuck in the 90’s, wouldn’t we be still trying to run the option with walk ons from Ord?

Was hiring two Pro Style/West Coast guys a result of us being “stuck in the 90’s?”

Bo was seen as an excellent hire at the time. Frost was considered an absolute home run hire. If both of those were considered to be good hires at the time, isn’t that a good thing, and not a result of being fixated on an antiquated approach?

Since 2003, I’d say Neb has been far more preoccupied with modernizing and reinventing itself than clinging to a bygone era. Sure, some folks on Twitter use the 90’s titles as a crutch when they’re getting roasted. Aside from that though, I think the Neb fan base could not be more focused on the future, and not the rear view mirror.

Looking at how we have been since Bo i would say he was a excellent hire.

I don't think that's even close to the program's top issue.  There's a difference between shooting your shot and blowing the wad.  I think a lot of folks are chasing unicorns.

Adrian was the #9 DT QB in 2018.  We also likely could have had Burrow.  I don't know about you, but when I look at those QB rankings no one ever hears from 7 of the top 10.  For every Trevor Lawrence, there's 7 Uncle Rico's.  Furthermore, several of these guys that end up being elite, at least recently, are transfers.

I agree 100% with this. Most Texas fans right now think Ole Arch Manning will be 3rd string at best for UT lol.

You put it out that the baddest MF'ers wear single digits, the media picks it up, fans and others see it and you have a fierce competition to earn the single digit jersey....It'll motivate the players.

Oh i get it, i have coached many of sport and years. I know exactly how bad those solo digit numbers are wanted.

I don't understand the importance of not giving the team single digit numbers.  A number is just a number its the person behind the number that is important.

This is just another example of how far removed in the understanding of how these kids work. Damn near every player eligible for a single digit WANTS one.

It seems N wants him the most. My feeling is GA would love to have him, but it’s not essential. Same thing with USC. But N has to have him. I have nothing to back that up, but it’s my gut feeling. I just hope after the N visit he commits to us. The more visits he takes would reduce our chances and drag this out. I keep my fingers crossed.

Your 100% correct. N have to have him and show they want him the most.  USC doesnt need him, they have 2 like him already and can pretty much get another one if they choose. GA may actually need him but who knows what they actually have in their QB room. They may already have a guy ready to run the show like they do every year.

Top TE in Texas.  Although I'm not sure if his team just doesn't throw the ball but his stats are rather....Unimpressive

They are not a very good program here in the Houston Area. Big school but all the good Players in the district end up at Katy or other school.
