He has never recruited at that level. Our only hope rests in his new staff.

Yes, definitely his new staff, which hopefully includes Joseph and Bush, among other ace recruiters. He will need better talent than those five other West teams to rise above them and compete with LR’s USC teams. Assuming the Big 10 places USC in the West to balance both divisions. We will have to keep a close watch who he hires. I hope he talks about the importance in recruiting in his press conference. He must keep Joseph to sign Coleman.

True, also means Rhule has built connections in PA and TX, his TX connections have been lauded by pundits actually, so that would help you would think.

How good a recruiter is he? N needs consistent top 15 classes with some top 10. Until I see it, that is my main concern with him. Otherwise with good but not great recruiting classes with this guy may put us neck to neck with five other teams in the West Division, with USC ruling.

Everyone reading the Rhule press tour as a sign he is N, why?

That's the weirdest smoke screen ever

The word is out that Rhule took Nebraska off his list. True? I have no idea. No one knows who it is. As far as I know, it could be someone not even mentioned. I just hope it’s not someone who leaves disappointed like Riley, who came out of nowhere.

Watson's team just murdered most of their competition so his stats are goofy through 10 games (9-1). Pop has 129/171 (75.4%) for 2010 yards (11.8 ypa), 15 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions passing and 59 carries for 711 yards and 18 touchdowns rushing. He plays in the state semifinal tonight.

Well, QB position will be up for grabs next season. Not saying Watson will be ready, but it appears CT may not have the inside track, and Purdy’s opportunity may had passed. Maybe Torres? Henrick? Or possibly Watson.

Kiffen is by far my first choice.

I think at the very least Kiffen would be the best recruiter. He perhaps could bring in a top-10 class here and there and maybe consistent top 15. The guy with Illinois is doing good right now. And he had success at Wisconsin. But didn’t he later coach at Arkansas and flopped? I also don’t see him being the elite recruiter as Kiffen. Is it true that Kiffen wanted the N job after Solich was fired? Maybe he wasn’t ready then, but perhaps he is now.

Edit: Actually Bret had three seasons out of five where he won more than he lost and went to minor bowl games. But his last season he was 4 and 8. So I don’t see him any better than hiring Matt Campbell. I see Illinois being like Minnesota and not sustaining what they are succeeding right now. But who knows.

  6. I guess it comes down to will we be satisfied with 8-4 or 9-3 seasons or 10-2 or 11-1? A decent coach who teaches sound fundamentals could perhaps get us the former. But for the latter, we need a coach who not only can coach but can recruit consistently top 15 classes.  Who could that be? We know there are several decent coaches in the Western Division. But these coaches can only go so far because they apparently are not great  recruiters.  We know Joseph “potentially” with some new hires could be that kind of recruiter. But let’s see how he does as far as coaching and wins this season. If he losses the next two, then this discussion becomes more mute. The only thing I can say I personally know is it’s extremely difficult to find a coach who is equally good at recruiting as he is with coaching. There aren’t many.

Sorry, but I don’t know what just makes you assume that a first time head coach at a losing program located in Nebraska with almost zero name recognition is just going to automatically be some kind of elite national top 15 recruiter. Look, I know MJ is familiar and comfortable and likable to a lot of Nebraskans and I know he’s done pretty well recruiting his territory, and it’s great that he’s got us a couple wins and all, but that is just such a far, far cry from elite national top 15 recruiting head coach.

Red Silk, I first want to see if Joseph can pull out three more wins, the minimum perhaps for him to maybe be retained by Trev. I think the odds are probably against him. But let’s also see who he can get commitments from as the season continues on. That can be telling. But you tell me, Red Silk. Who can Trev hire realistically that could bring top 15 recruiting classes every year? I just not seeing that with those two Kansas coaches, for example. Who would be an elite recruiter then? To me this is just a conversation, not an argument with you. I truly want to know who you think we can hire that is an elite recruiter.

  8. While I know coaching good fundamentals is very important, having a dynamic recruiter is critical — someone who is capable of having consistent top-15 classes. BC showed it can be done here, but he just wasn’t a good college coach. His last recruiting class had top 10 written all over it until his season fell apart. Joseph appears to be as strong as anybody else Nebraska has a realistic chance of getting — probably stronger.  Sanders is less than a long shot, and he knows nothing about the Big 10. And of course the same can be said of the chances of Urban. But for the Huskers to be in contention to conference championships and beyond ever again, they will have to recruit up a storm. I am just not seeing that with both Kansas coaches, a Matt Campbell, etc. But Joseph could be that. Let’s hope he shows he can coach very sound fundamental football, because I just don’t see anyone else who we could get would be as aggressive recruiting. I expect if by chance he is retained — and I know the odds are against it right now — he would make the necessary staff  changes, and the new assistants would all probably be strong recruiters. I especially believe that after hearing his interview with Cozgrove. Let’s hope for his success.

  9. I will sit back first and see how Mickey does and go from there. If he can come up with five or six wins, he may be worth retaining and then not go outside the program. Unfortunately I don’t like the odds of that happening. But I will stick to that for now.

lol, living in the moment much? He was trash last week against Tulane.

our offense while he was here was actually pretty good. He was a turnover machine coupled with a s#!t defense and even s#!ttier special teams.

So he had a bad game against Tulane. But he and his offense had a big impact in beating OU. That is something he and the N team couldn’t do. He had a big win, Tulane or No Tulane. Considering what went on with Frosty’s teams, KSU obviously has a better coaching staff. If they win more than they lose and make a bowl game that will confirm it. And I suspect that will happen. I would say just be happy for the kid.

You guys are smoking crack if you think we will get Lane Kiffin. The reality is this is gonna be a hard job to get a good proven coach to.

I agree totally. If Frost is fired, any coach Trev hires outside the program would be a gamble. Might as well hire Joseph, who wouldn’t be any more of a gamble. And seriously Zac Taylor would be out of reach.

  12. Problem is who could they hire. A “good” coach would probably not come here. If Frost is canned, there no more risk hiring Joseph than anyone they could get. Might as well consider him. The coach  that a lot of fans wished he would be here just took his team to the Super Bowl and has Joe Burrow. I don’t see him coming where N would be a downgrade.
