Bear with me, second time poster here: Except for maybe Tech in '04, I have never felt more despair about Nebraska. I had to go play golf after the second quarter (as some of you suggested I do last time I posted on here) before I could write this thing.

Last year, Moos gambled and extended Frost's contract. At the time, we had just announced the new facility and it seemed like the right thing to do. Now we are in year 3, with arguably the worst team Frost has put together. Where do I even begin... We have top 25, heck sometimes top 20 recruiting classes every year. Why does that not show up on the field? Also, is it just me or do our players seem really undisciplined? I encourage you to go back and watch Williams and Cam Taylor-Britt after plays. Always doing something "extracurricular." I watched Williams last week knock his helmet against a Purdue player, only to get penalized for an unsportsmanlike a couple plays later. What does Frost do? nothing. Do you think Saban would put up with that sh*t? Saban gets mad at his 3rd string o-lineman for making a false start when they are beating St. Mary's school for the blind 70-3. He has zero tolerance for stupid crap like that. He may have a cardiac arrest if he tried to coach our team with all of our crap. One thing we do well though. We are physical. Under Riley we wouldn't even hardly compete. But at least Riley was a .500 coach. Not sure if we are better or worse shape right now. I FEEL worse, but what the heck does that matter.

Moving on, we do not have the money to do anything. We are stuck, whether we like it or not, with this product for at least another two years imo. Frost will not get fired after next year. This truly feels like an early death of the program. The worst is yet to come however. Rapid fire questions incoming: When Frost is fired, I actually don't know what will happen. Will anyone want the job? How bad is our program going to look when we fire our golden boy? What if we lose our sellout streak? How bad would our program look then? Unless a major scandal comes out, I don't think things could look much worse for our program.

I need to play more golf. I got some used AP1 irons as an early Christmas present, and man they feel good. Ya'll should give me more advice.

You're forgetting one really Really, REALLY big day.. Maybe your not old enough to remember "The day TO retired"!!!

  2. Gotta Say... I'm overly excited about our 2021 season if for no other reason then with baseball comes "hopefully" the beginning of the end to this covid disaster. It began with spring sports, let it also end with spring sports. We need NORMAL back!! Peanuts and Popcorn! The sound of the crack of the Bat! We need fans yelling at umpires and coaches kicking dirt over the bag! Most of all, we need that sweet, sweet sound of a normal game with lots of fans signing the 7th inning stretch again!!!

Well Alex Lewis, Qvale, Sirles, Spencer Long, Slausson, and Sterup all got cups of coffee in the League.  Ameer rushed for over 3000 yards behind his lines.  Ranked 23rd in sacks allowed at 1.3 in 2014.  All four years he was here coaching the line in some capacity the team finished in the Top 20 nationally in rushing.

Went to UNLV with Barney and turned around their running game leading to ranking 36th and and 15th after being utter crap prior. Also his line set the school record for fewest sacks allowed in a season.   Went to FAU for a year, and with a line returning 2 starters ended up 14th in rush yards a game and also 14th nationally in sacks allowed at a little over one a game.  Now is at NC State and has coached a freshman All American.

Oh, and he could out recruit Austin in his sleep.

    SMH.. why Scottie WHY? :facepalm::cry:HotTake:

Given this development, as well as the fact that we have a backup that cannot throw consistently downfield, and the fact that we were up against an undermanned team yielding nearly 7 yards a carry in league play, we elected to game plan around a passing game?

Now I recognize there must have been something delicious on film that we thought we could exploit (with sarcasm), but this just does not compute.

Can someone please have the coaching staff screen one of the many good documentaries on the life and career of Vincent Lombardi?

You mentioned Lombardi.. that in itself is worthy of the +1

One hard nosed, run the damn ball, bloody nosed, piss in your pants, filthy grinder... That's what football should be. Blood/Sweat/Tears and a little nasty as dessert!

Buffalo is a great team. Whoever hires Lance Leipold is getting an awesome coach. Winner.

So.. thought I'd look into this as more useless football info to file in my already overfilled brain..

Looking at his wiki.. his first 3 years at buffalo were anything but spectacular. It took him 3 seasons with his first spectacular Div 1 season being his 4th. Might Frost also see the same jump in his 4th.. Here's hoping and thinking with a glass half full.

Yes, yes and yes on Garrison as OL coach here.  Hell, at this point I would bring coach cav back.  Would probably still be an upgrade.

Just asking... Am I reading into your posts that it is your opinion that Garrison is a better developer of talent or a better strategist? Both maybe and if so, how?

The only part I'm on the fence with is the bolded. I agree as a whole, the offense has not improved and has actually gotten worse. But I think a lot of that has to do with the gaps left when players transferred out the first couple years - moves I and many other fans took as a good sign for the "culture," but moves that absolutely left holes. The guys stepping into the OL this year should've been 3rd and 4th year players, not redshirt freshmen. Same for the backs and receivers - without guys like Spielman, Lindsey, and Washington sticking around we're playing a roster in year 3 that looks like a roster in year 1. Maybe we'll be better for it in the long run.

But for me, this is a case of the increased knowledge of the scheme/culture/whatever just not outweighing replacing guys like Morgan, Spielman, Ozigbo, and heck Tanner Farmer with redshirt and true freshmen the past 2 years. The jucos that were supposed to fill in didn't, and individual guys who could have been difference makers. I really believe this offense is light years different with a couple different player choices. If Washington figured his stuff out, our RB situation is way different. OR, if the staff decides he's not worth the risk and we sign somebody else, our RB situation is different. Same with OL - if Bland got here, or if we decided not to risk that and signed another guy, there's another more developed lineman available. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that though.

You state "for you the increased knowledge of the scheme/culture/whatever.... Am I wrong in my thinking? Can anyone more knowledgeable then me on O-Line techniques say with reasonable certainty that our line technique is improved? Yes were young but still, why are pulling guards/tackles not getting to their blocks. Why is our line giving up so many tackles for loss in our backfield by opposing lb's? This is where I scratch my head. It seems our o-line is not moving the line of scrimmage like they should surely that can't just be a youth thing. Or.. is it and my ignorance is really showing?

Personally I'm fine continuing to ride with Austin. I think the fanbase underestimated the growing pains of throwing two redshirt freshman out on the OL. Add Farniok who just doesn't have the quickness and a center who occasionally forgets how to snap, and no one was turning that into an elite offensive line this year.

Not saying your wrong about Austin.. I am a novice fan. Yes I understand the game, I know (through commentary) the difference of different defenses and the importance of say a Left Tackle or Center's ability to read defenses and make line of scrimmage calls. Still, I'm a novice that knows very little about technique or what technically is required on a RPO vs a 3 hole dive.. What I think I know is the lack of improvement. This was Austin's 3rd year here. Frost made a hard call and replaced the o-cordinator last year and it seems we've actually recessed in our production. Meanwhile and surprisingly, the defense has played reasonably well. Has shown improvements in all three groups. Hence the reason I think an "offensive" change is needed and I think you evaluate, discuss, measure and decide. The frustrating thing for me is, though we've seen improvement across the defense but not in any of the offensive groups (line, backs, qb, receivers). So, it's either scheme or coaching.. both are correctable but both will require courage. If its a lack of coaching, replace.. if its an inadequate scheme, change and God help if its both. (don't want to even consider both)

  9. Just curious I guess and well.. decided a thread just as well begin. As I've stated in previous posts, I'm not at all happy with our O-Line performance and frankly haven't been for quite some time. I went back to the books to see how the offensive stats under Bo compared and it's glaringly better. John Garrison (a former NU grad) was our O-Line coach and players played hard for him and he wasn't afraid to coach hard. There's multiple links about him my favorite is probably this NU Line Shows steady Progress and frankly, I'm wondering if he may be coerced into returning. Currently at NC State (7-3) with wins over a couple decent programs and yes, NC State actually runs the ball well. Thoughts?

  10. Morning Everyone.. It's been a hard weekend to swallow for all of us I'm sure.

There remains so much animosity around the program right now from the fans and I fully understand it. That said however, the players are staying focused on the task at hand. Everyone here knows we are 2 years away from seeing what Frostie's potential can be. Everyone here can see the differences in athletes before Frost and current. Everyone (myself included) is aching desperately for immediate results and frankly, obviously, it's not going to happen. I'm not one that believes a staff turnover is necessary. Yes, I think a new O-line coach is needed and maybe a new RB coach. (Though Held is a recruiting machine) The doubt I have in Held though may simply be the O-Line coaching and not the RB coaching. I like Austin as a front man for the line but I don't think he's a Milt Tenopir or even a McBride (hard nosed) type. I think Held should be given the chance to coach with a new O-Line coach before he's canned. Just my opinion.. Gotta say though, the continued negativity here and on every board and fish wrap within the state is not at all helping. Let us not forget the BEST things in LIFE are worth WAITING for. Lets be a little more patient and more positive.

What you all think about bringing Lovie in?

In honesty.. I think Chin's defense is the only real improving group. D-line was much better, backers were more active and greatly improved, d-backs were solid.. Not sure defense is the side Frost should be looking at. The offense has been and remains the biggest let down. Bring in a proven offensive line coach, a proven running backs coach and assist Chin's with a defensive focus through recruiting. Chin's has shown he is isn't tied to a single philosophy and is willing to adjust. He showed multiple 4 man fronts even in the dime and dropping into zone.

The offense is a bigger concern than defense IMO.

    Not gonna happen

Honestly.. IMO (not worth the salt on my brow I know).. Maybe there's a positive in this loss. Maybe (hoping) the loss leaves such a horrendous taste in the seniors mouths they stand strong behind their coach and stick around for one more season. As for the staff though, first place to maybe look is O-line coaching, 2nd place is an actual running backs coach and lastly, the offensive system as a whole. Maybe stop with the spreads, push the power game more and win ugly for a few years. Seems to work for Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern and heck.. even the Illini have went that direction. If Frost wants to run the RPO then implement more option offense into it because the offense he's running right now isn't working.

Can we label this game the "Avanti Sweepstakes"?

Here's hoping not. In all honesty, if a player makes a huge decision off results from a single game. A game mind you, where one team is coming in short handed.. Well, I'd think that a mistake. I also wonder if the skers mental prep is on or have they written the gophers off like they did the illini? If so, it will be a long, long day in Lincoln.

  14. Fate always has a way of revealing truths and it's fate that is showing how the B1G conference blotched nearly every decision of this season. The only save IMO is the decision to allow tOSU into the conference title game and hope its enough to keep them in the playoff. That said, I'm not counting Northwestern out... tOSU has only played 1 game in 3 weeks while Northwestern continues to do what they do.. win by grinding defense and burning clock on offense.. I'd be shocked (as everyone would be) if Northwestern wins. I can't however say I'd be surprised and really, if fate holds true to revealing the B1G's ineptness then would it be that much of a shocker in the first place?
