  1. What on earth is wrong with today's strike zone. Just look at the number of pitches called in this 9 inning game ending with a score of 2 - 1. Brecht was pulled after the first. The umpire (Wayne Harris) is a joke. The B1G has to do better umpire scouting.

    Horrid Umping.png

  2. Purdue threw their Friday starter (Morales) last night and took and L.

Illinois has their ace on the mound today (Omans) as Husker fans, let us hope Indiana can return the favor in today's game.

On another note, MSU has it's best stats pitcher still available. (Dzierwa) today. Nick Powers is scheduled to face McConaughey. We'll see if MSU puts Dzierwa on the mound.  (He was scheduled to throw yesterday, not sure why he didn't).

    Edit:

I wonder if MSU is saving Dzierwa's arm for the tourney. Can't imagine they are. 3 teams (MSU, Maryland, Penn St.) are tied for the 8th spot. Maryland & Penn St are playing each other this weekend. Series winner eliminates the loser from the tourney. Maryland has the tie breaker on MSU. MSU has the tie breaker over PSU. So you can bet all MSU fans are huge PSU fans this weekend.

    2nd Edit:

I'm posting my thoughts, not making predictions. In looking at the final to games in the Illinois vs Purdue series, I just don't see a Purdue victory thereby Illinois winning the crown and even if Purdue can win one of the two remaining, Nebraska needs to sweep and I lack confidence in that too. Sadly, I think the season ends with a second place finish for the Big Red. That horrible weekend series at Rutgers will be their downfall. That or the 9th inning implosion against Indiana. :cry

  3. Pitching saved the day. Not upset at all with our bats.. They hit the ball hard when contact was made against what I've believe is the league's 4th best pitcher.

Tomorrow is another day.. Just keep winning baby!! Well done Husker's!!!! Huskers are going to miss one Brett Sears in 2025. Dude is flat nasty and his off speed it's just at times pure harmony.

Anyone else like the MSU field? That ramped outfield, I like how it looks but not sure I'd like playing on it.

Sadly, still trailing Illinois by 1 .. Need Purdue to win tomorrow and Sunday

  4. and.. in the Michigan vs Indiana doubleheader it appears like they'll split. Indiana leads top of 4, 10 - 0.

If that holds both teams will be officially eliminated from the regular season race with tomorrow's loser likely out of any hope for a post season appearance without winning the auto bid and as crooked as the B1G is, it wouldn't at all surprise me to see some B1G tourney shenanigan's. (I know, stop with this ridiculous hate but dang it, I can't help myself)

and... Penn State currently up on Maryland 7 - 4 bottom of the 6th. Maryland's only chance at an at large was to sweep Penn State at home this series. If the score holds Maryland can be officially taken off the bubble watch.

  5. Wow.. this most certainly wasn't expected coming into the season. Huge accomplishment by this young man and the defense behind him. Individual award yes but Brett, like he always does, will acknowledge the players making this possible.

Congrats to Brett and all of the Husker team!!

  6. 2 - 2 Top of the 8th in the Michigan @ Indiana series.

and... as I type that, Michigan with 2 outs, hits a bomb to go up 3-2.

    Bottom of 9, Michigan 3, Indiana 2

As expected with Grady Smith at the plate I expected a defensive game. As I type, Indiana gets a leadoff double. Bunt to 3rd then a fly ball is all that's needed for Indiana to take this to extra innings.

1 away, no bunt attempt. Runner on 2nd

2 down, runner doesn't advance to 3rd. Michigan defense keeps runner put. HBP runners on 1st & 2nd.

Line Drive out.. Michigan takes game 1 by a run. 3-2 Blue

Hoosiers are out of the title race, Michigan remains a possible crown with a sweep.

  7. Wow... That's huge news @Mavric really hope Purdue takes both today then.

Grady Smith is behind the plate in the Michigan vs Indiana first game so that kind of hand cuffs Indiana's bats. Smith has maybe the largest box in the NCAA. Old school box giving pitchers the rivers resulting in a lot of whiffs. Maybe he's tightened it some to be more in the current. Hope so for Indiana's sake.

Supposedly the B1G isn't all that interested in Clemson.

I have heard FSU, Miami and UNC are the current top targets and they are still hoping for ND.  The thoughts on ND is if they bring in Miami and FSU along with USC that it might persuade them to finally join.

It's rumored (and we all know what "rumored" equates too) that Notre Dame & Stanford have already secretly committed as have Utah & FSU but again.. Rumors aren't worth the paper their written on. Honestly I doubt in 5 years it will matter. I think they're shooting for a 64 team super league and all current alignments will be revised by a authoritative body (a commissioning body of sorts) that will divide the teams into 8, 8 team divisions. The Playoffs will replicate the NFL's and this football only super conference will not be part of the NCAA.

  9. @Mavric's post.. (not at Mavric)

There's a reason why these things are done behind closed doors and dark offices. Then we all wake and suddenly there's breaking news. Of course the Governor's along with everyone else haven't heard any of the "exit" cry. That statement gives them plausible deniability and job security. Trev never took a phone call right?

    Quote

    Weekend Rotation
    • Brett Sears is set to toe the rubber on Thursday night. Sears is 7-0 this season in 13 starts, posting a 2.11 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 85.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .176 hitting clip.
    • Mason McConnaughey takes the mound on Friday for his eighth start this season. The sophomore set career highs with 7.1 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts last Saturday vs. Indiana, becoming the third Husker to post a 10- plus strikeout effort this season.
    • Jackson Brockett gets the nod for the second straight series finale on Saturday. Brockett is 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA this season, allowing just three hits and three earned runs in 17 innings over his last three starts.

Clark’s Mid-Season Evolution on the Mound
    • It’s been a tale of two seasons in 2024 for Caleb Clark. After a slow start to the year, the southpaw has come on strong, providing key outings in crucial moments for the NU pitching staff in the last month.
    • The sophomore has made nine outings since Nebraska’s series at Rutgers in mid-April, allowing just eight earned runs in 18.2 innings for a 3.86 ERA.
    • Clark has limited opposing hitters to a .179 hitting clip since making the change on the mound and has tallied 23 punchouts to eight walks.

Middle-Third Production Boosting the Big Red
    • Nebraska has been successful the second time through the lineup on the mound and in the batter’s box, outscoring opponents 146-68 in the middle-third innings this season.
    • The Huskers hold a 53-18 advantage in the fourth inning, while outscoring opponents 45-20 in the fifth inning and 48-30 in the sixth inning.
    • The Husker offense is hitting .309 at the plate with 75 extra-base hits and 137 RBI in the fourth through sixth innings, while the NU pitching staff is limiting opponents to a .230 hitting clip and a 3.71 ERA in the middle-third innings.

  11. Sorry for the double post but I have to call myself out. The bracket notes confirm that @Husker Baseball 2025 is right!! I'm an arse for not fully reading!! Ugh.. I often make an arse of myself but when it's this obvious it's an embarrassment. Thank You @Husker Baseball 2025 for bringing this up. It does change everything and it wouldn't result in playing a doubleheader. So I'm a knucklehead again!!! Grr!!!!!

Top seed gets to pick if they want Tuesday or Wednesday. Not sure what Will picks

its between an extra day of rest for Sears or MM vs Wednesday off for the pen.

Not according to the B1G's Tourney Brackets...  Game 4 is played Wednesday Morning and why would any coach choose to play a double and disadvantage their team? Nonsense!!

  13. Sears throws thursday against MSU..

He has Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday off.

The Huskers will play on Tuesday (because huskers will win this weekend series).

Sears will throw game 1, McConaughey will throw game 2 and both will then be shutdown until regionals. (8 & 7 days of rest respectively). If Bolt and company do anything other than keep the starting rotation as is, it would be a sign of throwing in the towel and giving away games. Could happen but the tourney being in Omaha, I don't see that happening.

  14. His momma, did she give the go ahead? Momma's matter and this young man seems to be a man of integrity that honors his momma and pops type. So, if Mom's on board it's a done deal. Please be onboard mom.. please PLEASE!!! This young man is my favorite recruit so far. Wonderful demeanor. Well spoken. Huge smile with great presence. Kind of reminds me of a certain 4 year starter under TO that played for many years in the NFL and is a HOF'er. Will Shields type that belongs here. :)

  15. Miami is now an AAU school. They also are the largest TV market of any non SEC/B1G school. That bodes well for an invite to the B1G if the ACC lawsuits are won by Clemson, FSU and now UNC.

We'll see how important two factors are in B1G expansion soon. Will the B1G choose AAU Miami or non-AAU FSU? Both bring the Florida TV market. Secondly the question is how interested is the B1G in Clemson when 2 AAU schools (G. Tech & UNC) are also in a shared TV market. Does the B1G take Clemson and only UNC/G Tech?

Regardless, the ACC is gone. The ACC GOR is barely standing now and ESPN is considering a negate of their contract which essentially ends the GOR. The FSU lawsuit has had two huge wins in their fight with the ACC and North Carolina now joining the party of "time to move on" just weakens the ACC position even further. I fully expect 2025 to be the final year of the ACC as we know it.

Notre Dame will most certainly be the next entry along with Stanford (who hasn't yet signed the GOR) and might be accepted before the year ends. If that happens it will cause the ACC to scramble like never before. Sad days are coming for those like me that are totally against this destruction of years and years of tradition.

With this team, I hope the staff takes the "balls to the wall" approach. Then, let the postseason fall however it falls.  It's not like we expect to go deep into the NCAA tourney.  Do whatever you can to win something NOW.

    You can't say that..

There is a reason Nebraska is the highest seeded 2. Sears and McConaughey pose a problem to any team they face and in the regional a team can win it throwing 3 arms only. Currently we are projected as the 2 seed in the Indiana State series.. Husker Nation will blow that stadium up and yes, we'll have a high HIGH chance of advancing if Sears wins his start. The #8 seed is projected to be East Carolina and in a stadium like theirs.. you bet anything can happen. So.. to say "it's not like we expect to go deep" is simply not true. I expect Nebraska to reach the super and from there anything can happen.
