  1. Once the players have a majority who are mission oriented as to the season as a whole, and feel that way for each play of each game, the Huskers will resemble those of the T.O. era.  It is psychological in nature, yes.  Whether or not some psyche doc brought that about then is subject to question.  Whether or not he allowed for it as he did his job of watching for other things that can creep into the minds of kids that age is more likely, in my opinion.

I feel it was about the staff and a certain immeasurable quality therein.

  2. I'm old.  My workouts reflect that, even though they're pretty close to the same routine I've been doing for decades.  Injuries are nearly always ready to happen much more than when younger;  but I'm hyper aware of that now so I am careful to warm up each muscle group for a long time at low weight for high reps while full range of motion slowly for several reps then normally.

Dreadmill .. er, treadmill every other day then leg lifts and leg curls.  On off days for that there's an arm day, a shoulder and back day, a chest and belly day.  The weight amounts max at 212 for bench, 45 for dumbell curls, etc.  Not much, but feels great, especially when done.  :D

8 teams is obviously ideal but honestly I don't think it is needed this year. It's clear who the 3 top teams are and I think they are on a level by themselves

Alabama, Baylor, Oregon, and Florida could be in there with the four now set up and it'd be hard to be sure they'd all be kicked out in an eight team set up.. LSU already beating Alabama as the caveat.  :D

OU is really the only dark horse pick. The other 3 teams are truly a toss up. Imo this may be one of the best playoffs to date.

I agree about it being more like it.  I still wish we could have eight teams.. I looked at Mavric's proposed set-up for that and it looked good to me.  But yes, this one looks interesting and I feel that OSU is the team that adds to that.

I identified LSU early as a playoff team this year so I am riding with them to keep sticking it to family and friends.

You and my kid, who worked in Loosianna for a while.. Geauwvphx Tigers (they pronounce it taggers down there), etc.

I picked Ohio State.  Go tuba-i-dot-guy.

I was a punk 24 year old kid that also drank way too much and decided whilst he was drinking would light up HuskerBoard like a Christmas tree. I had it coming and as a result I've got zero leash. In six years, I grew up.

I have to thank the administration and the mods team in their discussions on this topic and whoever was in my corner as I realize the memories of me on this board weren't all pleasant. I was reading back through some PMs and some of them from Knapplc about warnings and suspensions were absolutely cringeworthy.

Man I can relate.  Way to go on owning up to it all.  That's the way to go as you know.  :thumbs

EDIT:  Oh.. let's see.. six years ago, when you were 24.. to you turned 30 and got old and wise.

For you old timers on the board, yes it really is me after 6 years away. When rules are broken one has to pay the price and endure the consequences.

Interesting.  Glad you were allowed to rejoin (perhaps a Christmas spirit thing by the admin?).  I can relate as I'm still on a true perma-ban from HuskerMax, and was quite nervous joining here given that they now own this site.

I don't know about you, but I was an on-again-off-again wicked drunk in those days over at that board, and was rightly ushered out.

Even though I don't know you, welcome back!

I feel it’s important to support conservatives that speak out against Trump.....especially ones that previously supported him.

Boy to I agree with that.  I am agrieved that our once formidable Republican party lined up in lock-step on his side during the impeachment hearing/vote.  It startled me that there were than many cowards in our government.  They could well have admitted their disappointment and disgust with Trump's actions and words brought out by the phone transcripts and other testimony.

Thanks for that.  I'm going to have to really dig into this star rating thing.  Reading what I have, thanks for the link, and googling it I still haven't gotten a feel for the process.  I envision the concerned entities needing a scale by which to guide them somewhat in investing in talent, but again, I don't yet see the on-the-ground performance of these players as it translates to competitive ratings.

Was there ever any doubt that this guy would want to coach here.  Can you imagine him sitting on some beach, or winging a duck out of a blind while chewin on come copenhagen

I'm sure he has a LOT of issues/memories swimming around his brain after the drama from the west coast to the locker room to the girlfriends's apartment to the field;  ever read all of this.. https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/the-story-of-scott-frost-s-love-hate-relationship-with/article_d23a0bb0-ba7f-11e7-85a1-07e004b8e998.html

No, it's not in the past, if it's driving you.  And I think that's what's driving him;  all of those memories (yes, even the fan hate).

I get this.  But I can probably look at the local newspaper reports to find out who the “star” players are. In recruiting rating presumably they are much more serious. Just trying to get accuracy.  We all know they miss some diamonds in the rough but how many kids are actually even evaluated seriously by rivals or ESPN ?  20%?   Less?

i hope NU does exhaustive searching on their own and doesn’t give much weight to “the experts” UNLESS the actually are proven right a high percentage of the time.

My question is probably answerable by studying up on this:  What is the criteria on "star earning" for these kids in high school?  How does rivals dot come et al attach these stars to certain players?  I know it is relied upon by all concerned including coaches (obviously).  Are they wrong at times?  Is there margin for error?  I know that performance from one level (high school) to the next (college or jc) can be different challenge-wise, so do they gain/lose stars?

The quote about "trust" in the tweet is true.  Whatever happens, I think this team is going to be a lot more fun to watch the rest of the way compared to how I felt a week ago.

I agree very much.  The "trust" thing comes out on the floor with sharing the ball and not just firing a shot as soon as it's in your possession.  Also I think the coach himself is becoming trusted on more levels, and that's priceless when it comes to improvement.

That's what I love about basketball;  that thing of being able to see changes like this watching games a couple of times a week.

AM needs protection.  That line gave me Tourette's Syndrome this season.  It was porous at best, he AM got beat up.  Throw in less than talented receivers and it's not hard to see why AM struggled this season.  Hopefully an upgrade in the receiving corps and linemen who do their jobs will bring back the 2AM we loved last season with some maturity as well.  2AM can play, but he needs to be put into a position to succeed.

Well said.  And knowing that about the O-line tempers my negative take on T.M. a bit.  Good QBs evolve in a mix of good and bad protection and good and bad receiving corps.  We've had more bad than good in the protection department, so his escape and connect or escape and run skills just haven't been able to develop.

But I'm still just disappointed in some of his decisions out there.  We get that way about any QB, but he's been on the ground too many times as a result of his own choices during a play.

  14. 13 minutes ago, hskrfan4life said:

Everything after that doesn't matter because people can't seem to figure out who the hell the QB is.

Everyone loves the back-up QB until he starts sucking then we continue this.

There's a reason Martinez was starting. There will be a competition next year. If Luke wins the job and struggles, people will be ready to turn ship right away. Just no satisfying anyone which is why none of us are coaches.

Without all that there would be no Husker football forums.

That moment against Iowa when McCaffrey came in, threw a touchdown on his first play, turned the momentum around, made victory seem more than possible, and had all of Memorial Stadium chanting "Luuuuuuuuke!" marking the dramatic beginning of the the Luke McCaffrey era.

Then he returned to the bench and the moment was gone.

Yeah that one was super frustrating to sit back and watch.

Two reactions came from the people in our section that game.  One was that Frost should get T.M. to heck out of there no matter the QB's reasons for going back and forth from okay to terrible.  The other was that Frost was using the other QBs for limited schemes and that was a waste of the guy we liked:  Luke.

Tempering all of that a bit for me is the (few) times Martinez showed us great stats in a game.  My wife is of the opinion that "he's immature and some people just stay that way so don't expect much consistency from him over time."  The hell of it is S.F. keeps up talking him, so he's it.  Yes the O-line could do better, of course, as well as receivers;  those things are good for any QB in there.

The whole package is at pretty much the same level, which brings us to the point that Frost's decision making during games is of utmost importance, but seems to lack the insight to win games steadily through the season;  especially the games we're supposed to win.  That thing of having Luke come in and perform so well then benching him seemed to just take away a lot of the confidence one could work up over Frost.  I see no brilliance, no development of Frost himself, let alone the players.

This may sound good to you as you're writing it and it would take a triple 84 HuskerLaw post (Not to offend, 84, don't mind reading your posts) to respond to the actual shallowness of these posts. Suffice it to say that there are people on this board that  are educated beyond their intelligence and believe they are the epitome of insight, intelligence, wisdom, understanding etc.  We're all entitled to our opinion, as you are, and this is mine.

Scott Frost is a winner, has been all his life, and odds are he will be again.  I don't care what conference or level you play/coach in it takes at least a certain level(rather high) of skill/understanding/wisdom/discernment of the game to be a winner, like take a team to an undefeated season.  Some on here talk about Scott Frost as having a really big ego because of how he's handled things since he arrived here but these posts and others on this board display what are some of the biggest egos I have ever come across.

As if thoughts and opinions are formed, parsed, sorted, then typed into a forum for "sounding good as you're writing it."   Not this puppy;  it's about reading things through, watching games, living the Husker experience for decades and decades, living my life and forming ways to make decisions, superimposing said experiences and observations of Husker football over current situations and the people involved.

Don't be shallow.   My expressed thoughts about Scott Frost aren't shot from the hip or quickly decided upon.  Re-read the previous paragraph and my previous posts about the new HC, along with those of others of a similar opinion;  you'll find far less "shallow" than in your very own post there pinning a medal on a man who hasn't proven at all that he's up to Big Ten football.

  17. I just don't feel I or government has the right to dictate to a woman what to do with the contents of her own body.

The last time I was in a discussion about this and stated my feelings, a man brought up something on the order of, "what if she goes into a jewelry store and swallows a million dollars worth of gems?  Can we then tell her what to do with the contents of her own body?"

As if stealing jewels is analogous to enduring an unwanted pregnancy.

Game playing aside, no matter my beliefs about abortion, it's up to her at least 51%.  She gets the deciding vote no matter the input from politicians, clergy, or even the sperm donor.

Was that during his playing days or afterwards?  I'm guessing during, since he didn't come back much (or ever?) after '95.

You made me try to remember the year.  It was when the old configuration of that area included a street that ran right by the fountain and around in a sort of horseshoe shape, past several halls including the one where I used to drop off my wife at UNL nursing college.

  19. I don't know how to do a post quote from one topic to another one, so I'll post the link.. it's about Saban and Osborne but the OP made a great statement (well, one that I agree with) about T.O. that, to me, fits in this discussion about Scott Frost.

I feel that there is a vast difference between Frost and T.O.'s abilities, and that Frost likely cannot live up to anything near what was done back then because of that.   He's showing signs of being limited in his abilities as we watch the team's stats devolve from first to second season here.  He has smarts, of course, but no insight;  that intangible mindset that moves a coach along to great success in a hard, difficult conference like the Big Ten.  As always, I hope I'm wrong about all this but I was not the only one saying this about certain former coaches since T.O. left.  We were right about them and we're right about this guy;  hyped but limited.

I hate even seeing that name.  I encountered that freak while at the old fountain by the Union one Saturday.  He was riding shotgun in a red Miata and his arms were hanging out over the door and he had that insane, blank, soulless stare as the car wheeled around the corner.  He looked right at me and I got a chill;  not the kind that you get when you see a celebrity that you admire and respect.
