No Quick Lane and Armed Forces bowls because bumped Cotton (at-large) and Fiesta (CFP playoffs) bowls. And for some reason, Taxslayer/Gator bowl changed from Kentucky to Tennessee ...... last minute?

You look pretty good there, but I think you're wrong about the Trojans beating Iowa.  Too much drama in La La Land past couple of seasons.. not consistent.  Iowa by 11 or 14 or so.

  2. I feel that a truth can come out of anyone, irrespective of their own successes or lack thereof.  I also feel that Frazier was likely triggered more by Adrian Martinez's not living (all the way) up to hype ("Heisman dark horse," etc), much more so than his views of Scott Frost.

I know one thing...I was very very very  jealous of the line play I saw in those games yesterday...LSU had that 350 lb NG with an o lineman in each hand ...

O how i really miss the days when it was Nebraska that had those lines everyone envied....

Moos touched on that in an interview posted in the Journal Star this morning.  That and a lot of other things, and peppered with a lot about his respect for walk-ons at Nebraska, past and present, past especially.

Seriously, there's no winning for you in this conversation.  The fact that you felt you had to try and defend why she's to blame is sickening. Just stop.

You two are a broken record.   Don't have anything else better to do than post the same things every couple hours?

I haven't been in this forum for two days.  That's one thing.  The other thing is that the most repeated notion in here is that Scott Frost "just needs more time."  Etc.  That's the broken record.  Go talk to them.  Or to yourself.

Who should he have hired instead? It wasn't a pr gimmick, Frost was the hottest available coach for any opening, not just Nebraska. It's fair to wonder how good a coach he currently is to some degree - this isn't the AAC, and that easily could've been a 10-2 season instead of 12-0. But that's true for a lost of undefeated seasons, and it at least shows he's not a bad coach. I think a little more time is justified before claiming he's not a good coach, and that top recruits won't follow him.

This is a terrible take.  There was no other choice to be made and to think otherwise is just being in denial or intentionally contradictory.

Everyone wanted Frost and there was no one else who matched the bold who would have come.

I understand the way that many Husker fans are seeing that.  It was quite tempting for me to see it that way, too.  But I see it very differently, and I dare say in some cases, going by what you guys are saying, the very things you're mentioning as what is so good about the hire are what have others worried, not the least of which is, "everyone wanted Frost."   That is a horrible reason to hire somebody for big bux at a school that has had a progressively failing football program for two decades (and counting).  That reason smacks of a gimmick.

You hire a coach to run a (formerly) major program who is with no doubt proven.  Scott Frost can be seen that way only if we use our imagination as to his resume.   Moos was stating things himself, nobody put those words in his mouth;  it's a quote (after another Nebraska loss).  He was responding to criticism of the hire;  he stated that he wanted to save the sellout streak.  I have no doubt that he was also hopeful that, besides the sellout streak and satisfying the fan base with a good Nebraska name guy, he had other reasons and confidence.  But he also stated that he'd be fine with just six wins this second season.  Hello.

    fify ;)

And I hope we're wrong.  Moos could have shied away from the pr gimmick of getting Scott Frost, ".. to save the sellout streak," as he said, and instead thought things through and went after a proven big name guy to really right this program.  Somebody who top recruits would have followed in.   I hope I'm mistaken in my feeling that he's going to regret what he did.

If you want some optimism, which you truly might not, take an occasional glance at the what's happening on the recruiting trail.

Nah.  I mean, I do see what's going on with recruiting (and hopeful recruiting as with a juco here and there talked about).  But I get my optimism from performance during the season.

It's just that, no matter the quality of the guys coming in, they've still got Scott Frost as the head coach.  You know?

  9. Does everybody have their mind made up about him?  Did anybody change their mind about him as the two seasons unfolded?

I've seen posts here that fall solidly in favor of Frost and progress some have seen.  I've seen (and written) posts here that express more than just disappointment, but dismay and dread for the future as we made bad teams look good and good teams look very good (with a few exceptions).

I'm beginning to think he has more than I first thought.. but not by much.  I still think Scott Frost is limited and that he's a fine coach for conferences like AAC, etc, or perhaps as a position coach somewhere as before in his career.  I still think he's in over his head and that The Peter Principle applies.

What is the hubbaballoo about? Frost kicked them off the team as far as he could without allegations fully being verified. Imagine if this was a Cephus situation and Frost just booted them never to return, that isn't fair. I think this was handled as well as it could have been. And @PoloWearingBeaver, there are many many cases of people of color wrongfully being convicted of sexual assault, alot of times racism is involved so yea, I'd say that is a valid defense. In this case I'm not sure it applies but let's not act like that doesn't happen because it certainly does.

Maybe I missed it, haven't dug into any articles about this, but just from thinking about it I can surmise that Frost had a chat with them and walked away from it of the mind that he needed to remove them post haste.  I hope that is the case, and if it is my respect for him goes higher;  he sees the importance of public perception, and yes we often have the accused convicted long before any court processes;  we do it all the time.

T.O. had a pretty idealistic view of all this, remember?  He felt that if the accused were given a special chance then that is all that's needed to get them on the path to redemption and the glories ahead.  Lawrence Philips proved him wrong (these two are not in the genre at all of that guy, but it's the pitfalls of redemptive idealism I'm thinking about in all this).

We need to continue to hold our representatives, including student athletes, to a very high standard here at Nebraska.

More apathy, parties not even getting rowdy anymore.

We just go to the Zoo Bar a few hours before kickoff.  Nice folks in there, if you can put up with the overly cranked up amps when there's live music.  I stop at Abe's and get some food for us, as my wife and daughter go in and get our usual table.  We've been doing that for quite a while.  Her mom and sister and friends to the tailgate thing and tell us "it's gotten quieter lately."

Well, one factor is that we're all getting older.  I'm coming up on 74, my wife's (mumble) years old, and her mom's (mumble mumble) years old.  We can't drink or party like we used to.  :hmmph

Do you think this has any correlation with them increasing the playing time of the true freshmen in the last few games?  I don't have the stats but they played more true freshmen in those last 3-4 games than they did all year while trying to preserve their redshirt.  If there is correlation, I think the future is brighter at the end of the season than it was at the start.

Interesting.  I have seen Frost say that "if the starters are not on board, then we'll replace them with guys who are," to paraphrase.  I would not doubt that several frosh stepped forward or at least put more into their practices etc to be noticed.  Speculating because, like you, I have no stats on that particular thing either.

And those parents had grandparents who would talk about Minnesota's football legacy, which hit a dry patch from 1963 until this year.

I was in Eureka then Arcata last year during several big fires not far from there.  We were told to get micro particle masks and not exercise or breathe deeply or we'd end up thinking about Minnesota football in the years 1904, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1940, 1941, and 1960.  Are you okay?

... if you are a 21 year old college senior, do you think of Nebraska as football legacy?

Point taken, but there is a large percentage of UNL college kids who have parents and grandparents from here or surrounding states, and know what's up with the program's demise since about the time the college kids were born.

The Huskers will probably be good again at some point in the future. There is also a very good chance that we will all be dead when that happens. Someone on a Cubs Message board posted a topic like this in the 1920s, but didnt make it to see his team escape from the hold of father time

I think that, in the 20s, "posting a topic" meant screaming on your front porch.

  16. Yeah we fans are wonderful, etc.  GBR.  Meanwhile, I think Callahan "stole the Huskers" as we know the Huskers.  He came in here so arrogant as to say, "I'm changing the culture here."  It was taken as to mean away from a mostly running (option/triple option, etc) game to (drum roll, trumpets:  The West Coast Offense).

We see what has happened.  I'll get laughed out of here, but I still believe we were fine with our ways before him.  Yes we could have gradually added more spread out offensive plays with four receivers running around down field, fine.  But we could have done without that character.  God bless him for finding a home back in the NFL.  I wish him all the best, but he messed with a good thing and we have not recovered.

I don't think that's fair.  He had Diaco forced on him.  As for being mediocre, he won a lot of games in a program that was traditionally awful, and a program that hasn't gone to a bowl since he left.

But he was in over his head here.  I think we're talking about Nebraska's uniqueness when we talk about coaches failing here.  There has to be an understanding, one that is deep.  Somehow Bob Devaney tapped into that and T.O. segued nicely (after a bit of angst and him even thinking about coaching at Colorado).  Next stop:  Solich.  He left too soon, I guess.  I'm still confused about that episode.

Sipple was all in on Riley, too, until it became obvious that he was going to be fired.  Journalists do that because they need the coaches for news/quotes.  Sipple will be all in on Frost until the end becomes obvious.  Then you'll see the flip flop.

    Makes sense.

Enlighten us on Frosts history that shows he probably isn't a good coach? Because that isn't what I see when I look at his coaching career. I see a coach who has been a part of success everywhere he has been

There are other takes on his being on the staff of some teams who have done well.  But he has no longevity anywhere, and although it's speculative (and that's why I am not 100% sure he can't do it here), many good coaches rise where they are, not by quitting repeatedly and moving here and there.  I am of the opinion (it's an opinion that I want to shake but haven't been able to) that Scott Frost is riding his name after being one of the better QBs in college football for a few years.   And now we see his first few years here:  nothing much at all has happened beyond the dynamic brought out in the first post:  his players are increasingly on board with his stated desires for effort and dedication.
