In 2011, when the defense quickly went south, Bo still had guys like Will Compton, Jared Crick, Lavonte David, Daniel Davie, Alfonzo Dennard, Ciante Evans, Sean Fisher, Eric Martin, Cam Merideth, Josh Mitchell, Damion Stafford, Baker Steinkuhler, and others. That sounds better than the guys we have today, but that's also when the not-so-blackshirt era started.

Baker was a waste at DL...he could have been AA at OL

Listen im just as encouraged as you about our offensive direction, but we can get 500+ ypg on anyone wont matter unless we put the ball in the end zone .

Wasnt this one of the gripes about Callahans offense? Yards and no points

I don't think you're alone.  Listening to the players today it sounds like the reality of not going to a bowl game has sunk in and they are ready for the season to end.

Which does not bode well for a positive performance against Maryland

Had a conversation with someone yesterday about the importance of the 10 practices with a bowl game.

i certainly don’t think it hurts the program, but I think it will do very little to help it.  Close the door on this chapter and let’s move on.

We’ve already heard Frost’s message to recruits....We need help.

Exactly...I am not going to be disappointed if we dont make a bowl at this point

    It could happen.

Confidence must be low and injuries still plague the team.

    I’m concerned!

I stopped being concerned after Minnesota...fact of the matter is we are a below average team, embrace the suck right now...builds character and you can get winter lawn care done, BONUS!!!!

Completely disagree. Our secondary is pretty garbage. LBs are as well. D line has been average, but it's funny seeing that Iowa has the same amount of sacks as us and less TFL yet we give up 29 ppg and they give up 12.

Our DL is garbage when it comes to pass rush...coverage sacks at best. Not one of our DL can create a move on an OL...it is heads up rush, look...look...look..QB gets undisciplined in a good pocket and we get garbage sacks

Of course you can't really blame the QB for getting undisciplined, they are told you have 3 seconds max before you should have the ball out..you get 6 seconds into surveying your coached in instincts are telling you someone should be coming

Seems like there are times he trusts the play design a little too much instead of reading it. Both the interception and the last 4th down play, he's throwing the outside switch route all the way. I'm not sure if it's because he's trying to force it to JD, or if it's because that play has worked all year and he's just assuming that's what will be open. But both times the inside guy was open.

I think a majority of AM season has been not reading the D...and even moreso our play calling not reflecting any adjustments to the D

To sum it up, our Offense is very offensive

Last year I wouldn't have said Frost needs a true OC, now I don't know. Playcalling has been meh this season. If he is going to keep-up being de-facto OC he needs better guys that can be trusted left to their own devices running the D and ST's.

The pure volume of lateral play calls is mind boggling...the long throws to the side are both not timed well AND flirting with being a backwards pass/live ball on the ground almost e everytime (little bit of exaggeration there)...try to find s#!t that will work as opposed to forcing it too. Obviously I am not a coach, although I do think people put a little too much stock into "well they ARE a coach so they obviously would know"..in playing college football and knowing people who have and do coach in college I can tell you the CFB coaching world is littered with people who are coaches in title only but really lack any critical thinking skills to problem solve and evolve, they simply became a GA because they had no interest in anything else and latched onto a staff, built a "coaching resume" and if a "staff" , not necessary a specific position  coach, has success at a program that persons name gets tied to "success" and opportunities just come not necessarily because of merit but from association. I mean you just look at both CFB and NFL coaching changes...recycle, recycle, recycle. With that said there are, obviously, coaches out there who do get the job done.

Frost has called plays at some of the highest levels of college football. I don't think his play calling is the issue. I think he's trying to call plays to make up for our major defincies on offense and at times it leads to what looks like head scratching play calls.

Yeah, but he was calling plays that had the benefit of the OL, TE, WR being coached up to execute...our entire offense this year should have been predicated on designed rollouts with 2 options (hit read 1 or 2) and if they are not there get yards, combo in some base ISP's, toss sweeps and 3 step quick hits/tuck and run

And if that was effective you slowly build in more on top of that

this constant reminder that we have to wait till he get's his guys in BS.  he never had his guys at UCF and did quite well with the other guy's guys.  same with that weirdo at Minny.  he has those guys playing insane yet most weren't guys he recruited.  is he saying the guys he didn't recruit are pieces of sh&t and just by merely recruiting his own type will change the culture?

    Lol.."weirdo"...gave me a good chuckle

I’d rather swing for the fences than win nothing at all.  Tell me again what trophy did we win for winning those 9 games.

Exactly...and Pelini was a douche too boot, he was essentially White Goodman running our program

I don't know. The line is decent. I think they would look pretty good if the linebackers would do their damn job. Oh, and if we had an OLB or two that could get after the QB in one vs one situations.

Honestly their complete lack of ability to rush the QB, overshadows any positives they may show against the run.

If I had to grade the 2 aspects:

Ability to hold ground against run= C+

Ability to beat man 1:1 to create pressure= D-

The OL is struggling this season.  Obviously.

But there are a couple of former elite Nebraska linemen who have said Austin is doing a good job with what he has.

    Jurgens is developing quite well.

Sounds like you're in the know........

Yeah, OL has not been horrible...they are not good, or even average, by any stretch but you can see micro progress. Jurgens is going to be a stud his junior year and hopefully by then we have had other underclassmen follow suit.

You and I agree.  Frost isn't going anytime soon and I'm certainly not calling for it.  I want to see Frosty succeed because I love NU football and I'm a big fan of Frost.  But with that said, if he goes 4-8 three years in a row there will no doubt be calls for his canning.  Especially if we continue with embarrassing losses.

Let's say his record is 4-8 last year, 4-8 this year, 5-7 next year and 5-7 with a senior Martinez at QB.  Will Frost stil have the backing from fans and the administration as he does now?  What if Moos retires before Martinez's fourth season; does Frost survive with that record?  No knee jerk reactions.

We have to give Frost 4 years minimum even if results stay the same, or worse..we have churned out coaches to the point where we need to establish credibility in time

Diaco was obviously a mess, but Riley's offense was 84th in the nation in 2017. In 2016 it was 79th, in 2015 it was 44th and the year before he came it was 12th.

It's not like things were even remotely trending in the right direction or building towards something. His offense got worse the more of his players he got.

Everyone knows Nebraskans read stats upside down....I mean would you rather have 1 of something..or 100 of something?
