I see the first bits of preseason hopium sneaking into this thread and I expect it'll ramp up with each passing month, every Twitter post of guys working out, and reach a fever pitch once fall camp practice videos come out.

In my opinion this whole thing is a 4-5 year fix. The real payout starts in 2021 when our offensive linemen we've recruited are physically and mentally ready. By 2021 we should also be fully stocked at LB to handle the 3-4 scheme that Chinander wants to play.

I don't feel any impatience right now at all. In fact I feel even better after seeing Frost let go of a couple coaches.

This is how i feel.  But I worry that may just be the hopium kicking in early.  By August I will have completely written off last year's underwhelming improvement, onto Walters.  I think it would take the pressure off of this team, if our fanbase had low expectations like we finally have right now.  But i feel like between now and August, somehow, someway, our fans will be predicting 9 or 10 wins.  Including me.

Any HuskerBoard vet knows that I'm not a Bo fan. Thought he was both a prick and a substandard coach. I frequently pointed out that his Youngstown State tenure suggested Nebraska didn't make a mistake at all.

Point was simply that if you could look at Bo Pelini's resume under a different name  --- say Josh McVictory -- you could easily conclude that he would be a big name upgrade over Chinander, and a feather in Scott Frost's cap. Much as we ignored a couple glitches in Bob Diaco's coaching history and blamed Bo's defense on his own DCs.

Meaning we would likely come to the same conclusion as Ed Orgeron, a highly successful head coach with a lot more on the line than you or I;  maybe this Josh McVictory guy wasn't cut out to be a head coach, so let's get him back to what he did best for LSU.

LSU is just the right fit for Bo.  Most of their fans seem super excited to have Bo back.  And they are aware of his time at Nebraska.  Not many places would like Bo as much as LSU does.

Some of my favourite people raise High Content Wolves...In fact, the last time I appeared in a photo, I was holding a wolf cub at a local Bass Pro Shop trying to help acclimate them to people.

I didnt mean it against wolves in particular.  Its just a saying.  Sheep follow the crowd, wolves are predators...a "sheep" as a human is better than a "wolve"....but i dont mean it literally.  Wolves are amazing creatures.  Just in my context it was supposed to represent a predator, or an evildoer.

    Yeah...Me too.

I grew up in small town Nebraska around a bunch of Swedes...Didn't ever experience any sort of racism until the time I moved to Austin, Texas in the early '80's for their really cheap tuition ($4/credit hour)..

I guess that lack of experience put me at a disadvantage when I joined HB...I was forced to take vacations twice by the PC police around here because of things I never would have EVER considered to be racist...Really hurt my feelings more than it should and wondered what my parents would have said to me....One of the things they tried to stress to me and my siblings..Part of what made me so proud of them and where I grew up.

Unfortunately their is real racism.  But the way people use the race card against anyone who disagrees with them, undermines the real racism out there.  It is honestly a slap in the face to the ACTUAL true mis-justices that go on.  Unfortunately, judging by HB, this fakeism for lack of a better term, has even made its way into Nebraska.  What it comes down to, as my favorite college teacher once explained it greater depth than i ever could on here.....is people don't think for themself.  They are Sheep...im sorry if that offends some, but the majority of Americans have become sheep.  Better than wolves i guess...but still sheep.

Anyone who has experienced real racism understands this.  The exploitation of using the racism excuse, in circumstances that are unwarranted, actually hurts the spreading of awareness of actual racism.

I found some hilarious tweets after googling ''Bubba Starling Bo Pelini''...The bolded part was in reference to your use of ''seeing him on national tv'' in which I thought you were referring to the gif above your post showing Bo trying to air out his hat on the ref.

This is making me question the OP's story.  Does not sound credible.  Although i wish it were true.  Sports are entertainment, and to me Bo was entertaining.  I enjoy a man or woman who isn't so proper or politically correct in this day n age of what i consider fakeism.  Therefore i enjoy Bo, Les Miles, Leach, and such...and am not such a Saban fan.....maybe im just a degenerate.  But the way i see it, ill take Real..with flaws....over a fake persona anyday.  Again i could just be a degenerate.

Last 2 classes will end up being much better than the 2 prior.  That doesn't equal instant success.  RS freshman/sophomores or true freshman and sophomore classes, no matter how good, will struggle to win consistently.  I am very behind Frost but I'm also realistic.  Next year's schedule is tough.  I think 6 wins would be an accomplishment when you consider our experience level vs # ranked teams we will have. GBR

Agree.  Myself , I didn't realize how "lacking" our roster was last year.  And most my expectations were built on emotion.  I believe we will be good after next year.  Next year will say alot about our future, but our best players will be young.  If Frost n Staff can win next year, i believe that says alot about our future. If they finish 6-6 , i still think we will be pretty good in 21'.  As good as our young guys are, if Frost cant finish above .500 next year ...i believe it says he is only as good as his talent.  In that case our future is Bo Pelini level.

Between B and C I'd say - I noticed them, but I was looking for them so kinda hard not to. Lamar gave up a catch on a slant right away, but otherwise seemed to play pretty well. Did get bailed out on a bad throw when Duvernay got a step on him, but that dude is fast. He did cause a sack once where he took away the QBs primary read and they panicked and ran into the DE. Seemed to be solid all around, but it's hard to tell from the TV angles - could've had great coverage downfield or could've had guys running free and the QBs didn't see.

Darrion had a great play on his first drive, shed his guy and stuffed the RB. After that seemed like he was getting pushed around a little, and they called a sketchy defensive holding on him. I had to stop watching before the end so not sure if either had great/bad plays towards the end, but from what I saw both probably helped their stock some.

The bolded.....that was my problem with evaluating our offense this year.  Was told from a couple people at games that receivers were open, but that Adrian wasn't seeing them.  On TV you dont see downfield.

So then when i would blame AM , and others would say receivers weren't open.  I could not argue that point.  I guess the people at the games could have noticed a few exceptions to the rule...but i find it hard to believe receivers were never open.

Public perception is harder to defend when everyone sees it...Ribbing from co-workers about what my old school will put up with... is just a nuisance...May be a very slight factor in a job interview if my simple desire of living vicariously through my favourite team makes the HR guy wonder if I would ever condone violence...(Was sometimes in the back of my mind while defending Phillips or Christian Peter).

Yeah...I was hoping for some sort of link since I've been away in AZ half of my life...But it's pretty easy to believe after seeing him on national TV.

I tried to focus on the ''Entertainment value'' in Bo's tirades, and maybe even loved him for NOT being Callahan. but I also had great concern at his inability to move on to the next play...or even the rest of the game or... season... if he got pissed.

I AM surprised he's going to LSU...It will be interesting to see how his hatred of recruiting meshes with Orgeron's love for it, but I still wonder if Bo is near as good a DC without Carl...Having him at DONU instead of Chinander might have helped Scott Frost evolve faster into a complete coach and putting some sort of value in stopping the other team rather than just trying to outscore them, (Something I also felt about Callahan at times)..Hopefully that won't be necessary..

I mean if thats true SOMEBODY please confirm it.  I don't wanna jump to conclusions based on someones story posted on a message board.  I have never heard that one before and I am curious if it is true.  If not.....well kudos for creativity as that was hilarious.  I mean i had a couple moments like that at about the age of 18-21. But would make the legend of Feaux Pelini even greater.

oh wait, how about that time starling let them know he was signing Mlb.  Bo, and the circus crew hopped in the car road tripping to kc.  Upon arriving at a Hs kids house started doing cookies in the yard throwing beer bottles out the window and at the house.  Bubbas dad had to threaten to call the cops before they drove away.  Peter gammons did some really great reporting on the incident.

So sorry not to impress you but assaulting someone is probably down ole bos list a bit.  I mean gee, what a high character guy, right?

  10. I understand why you dont like him.  But why does it matter if assault is on t.v. or not? It is just as bad wether on national t.v. or not.  And if hitting someone with a hat is the worst he has ever done.  Color me impressed.

Again you have your opinion I have mine.  Curious why you didn’t reference the defense, while HC at this pwr five gig, that he took full control of, was largely a disaster.  We take that into account or nah?  Also, strange you didn’t include how he was about ready to get run out of his fcs position as HC, a position he took because he had nowhere else to go, nah.

most curious is referring to his ego, attitude, and general being a s#!t human as “media relations”.

again the best part of this is we get to see it play out.  I’m grabbing popcorn.

I find it ironic you call him a s#!t human.  Do you know the guy? Im sure your a far better human arent you?  I already pretty much know your response.  According to yourself your one of the best humans ever huh?

I'm not sure why I bother to use words.

Both posts went out of their way to explain that Bo could not and would not return to Nebraska given the mutual bridge burning.

Merely saying that a coach with Bo Pelini's resume might look like a big name upgrade from Chinander if we lived in a magical place that erased select memories.

It's a semi-relevant discussion, given that a lot of Husker fans would like to replace Chinander, and the candidate pool would likely include young up and comers as well as Pelinesque options -- veteran coaches returning to their comfort zone.

Im also not sure what you missed? Are we even disagreeing?? If so then its on!!!

I think that if we looked at the guy who was Nebraska's DC under Frank Solich, then the DC for National Champion LSU, then was the HC at a P5 program not named Nebraska, where he strung together seven 9/10 win seasons but it looked like media relations and head coaching wasn't his strong suit, we would consider him a big name get for our DC job, and an upgrade over Chinander.

Or to put it another way, do you have  higher standards and a more discerning lens than Ed Orgeron and the National Champion LSU Tigers?

Sometimes a coach can be a great coach, but not right for your team anymore. I would NOT take Bo over Chinander at this point.  But thats not cause i don't think Bo would make a great DC.  Its cause it just wouldnt work anymore.  Bo kinda burned his bridge so to say.  I happen to think I'd say similar to what Bo said after his firing, as i believe Eichorst, and Pearlman were the real villains of Nebraska football, NOT Bo.  So in his shoes, i would have been pissed too, and similar to Bo, im not a politically correct bulls#!tter, so i would have spoken my mind/heart.....which is what Bo did.  Like Frost allided to on the day of his hiring, we had terrible leadership from the TOP.  Bo reacted like any imperfect, emotional human would.  If anyone here hasn't ever done the same then you can be the first to cast the stone at Bo for the words he said that were secretly recorded.

Edit:  it just irks me that society is just so judgemental today.  We act like we are all perfect and that once a person does one thing even remotely wrong, we all think they need to be cast off for the remainder of eternity.  Idk anout yall, but ive yet to meet one person who has never done a stupid or wrong thing before....and if someone acts like they haven't.....typically they are the worst of the bunch under their lil mask they wear.

It’s really more like 50/50 but do carry on.....I’m really having fun watching the usual suspects re write history in which you completely blow past the bo led teams that have fielded a sub par defense for the better part of a decade....instead focusing on the 3-4 seasons a long time ago.

You have the right to your opinion, and maybe your right.  I mean this is a matter of opinion i guess.  I was being a bit of a d!(k with my post. Ill admit that.  I guess i enjoy livening up the convos.  I dont mean it as disrespectful, i just thought it would be more fun to rub it in that Orgeron agrees with me.  Its hard to tell over text, but i wouldnt be mean, or have hard feelings to you or the other Bo haters in person.  Anyways, he has fielded some very average defenses as a HC, but as a DC i beg to differ.  I feel like his defenses as a DC have been very good, and i feel like some of his not-so-good defenses have lacked talent.  Which is partly his fault, as he does not work hard at recruiting.  I actually said he is not a great HC and he is a bad recruiter.  All my point was is that he is a good Defensive coach.  And when Orgeron agreed, i took that as proof.  But maybe Orgeron is as dumb as me? I bet bo does well at a place where he doesn't have to recruit very hard to get talent.

Frost has had 2 "non-bowl" off-seasons now to carefully recruit some damn talent on this team. I understand most of his first class was a bust due to lack of careful evaluation as he was busy coaching UCF to a fully perfect season and the early sign date worked against him at the worst time possible, but if we suck more than Purdue, Maryland, or any of those kinds of teams then Frost has GOT to go. We really should even be better than Iowa since not only are we perennially recruiting waaaay above them but now it should be Frost's "careful" gotdamn eye that can fully SEE which players are for real actually talented, have good morals, good grades, etc since again he's had 2 damn non-bowl game making off season (so pleeeenty of time to carefully "evaluate") to put some talented as players on this damn team. So we should be whooping Iowa and plenty of others teams this upcoming season as well.

And i believe his last 2 classes are very good.  Like i said however, they will be Freshman and Sophmores.  I agree that we should still make a bowl, but it sounds like your saying we have better players than Iowa? Freshman and Redshirt Freshman/True Sophmores are typically quite a bit worse than they will be when they are Seniors.  I would put my money on a 30th rated class of Seniors over a 19th rated class of Freshman or Sophmores....easily.

Did you even watch the games?  Bo would get so apoplectically furious that he'd be ineffectual for at least a series or two.  Sometimes for the rest of the half.  His childish tirades were an embarrassment to the university.  How to you think the chancellor or regents felt when they'd see one of Bo's spitting-on-referee tirades as front page espn news?  Bo's temper got in the way of game management, and kept him from attracting high quality assistants and recruits.  It cost him his job at UNL and will likely keep him from ever being a head coach at a power five school.

Apparently Ed O. agrees with me.  The fact you had about 10 likes from this comment just goes to show sheeple...i mean people...are idiots.  Suck on that.  Sorry but i had to give u a lil of the T. Baggins special.

Your point still stands.  ZERO All Conference  since 2015? If i understand corralecticly.  That still says ALOT.  I mean people here think we have more talent than Iowa lmao.  Not even more than Purdue.

    Edit:

Ok maybe a bit of exaggeration, but fact is we have lacked talent to a serious degree.  We might have equal talent to slightly more than Purdue, but we have had far less than Iowa has had.  This is why Iowa makes fun of our fan base.  We look at Iowa as a manure field, but truth is two-fold ;   One- Iowa isn't as average as Nebraskans perceive it (as a football program that is!  As a state they truly are a manure field).  Two- Nebraska has had talent on the level of Minnesota/Kansas State/Missouri/Purdue Etc..., but our fanbase still thinks we have top 25 talent due to our recruiting rankings.  We HAVE finished around 25th in recruiting rankings for a while now.  But we have lost more to attrition/coaching changes, and simply busts than almost anyone.  After all that, what is left on our roster is very weak talent levels......less than Iowa and less than 80% of the BIG.

I just gave some examples, Texass is similar to California and Florida.  I thought Georgia stuck out, because i thought Georgia has far less population than Texas or Florida , and yet they have almost as much studs.

    Division Titles: 1
    Bowls: 3-5
    All Conference (first team): 17
    All Americans: 6

    11: 9-4 (5-3)

I know it is easy to say now, but i always liked Kobe.  I thought the trial he was in was b.s., although very confident, i never took him as arrogant at all honest to God.  Also heard him talk on matters outside of Sports, and he impressed me with his wisdom in my opinion.  Definitely an independent thinker, didnt just follow the common train of thought.  I think sometimes people mistake confidence for c$%kiness/arrogance.  Kobe was extremely confident, not arrogant at all.  Sports are so small in the big picture.  I hate it when someone dies, and the first thought is "what a great basketball player he was" i mean seriously that pisses me off.  But he was one of my favorite players to watch.  I just respected him even more as i heard him talk outside of sports over the past 5 years or so.
