Williams forcing too much, trying to play hero. No flow this half after a great first half. Officiating has been brutal.

Actually....yes. Was he some dynamic passing or running QB that put the team on his back and won games? No. But, he was the next best thing. He ran the offense that was ran, didn't make stupid mistakes and didn't turn the ball over. If a drive was going to be a 3 and out, at least he didn't make it a 2 and gift. Can you even imagine how nice it would have been to have that at QB for Nebraska this year?
He threw six interceptions and had five touchdown passes (no rushing TDs) for the season. He had more turnovers than scoring plays. Therefore, one could make the argument that Iowa won despite the performances of their QB.
If the criteria of QB quality is based on whether or not the team wins, then you are ignoring individual accountability. It would be like saying Drew Brees (115 games lost) and Brett Farve (114 games lost) were two of the worst QBs of all-time because they lost the 4th & 5th most games as starters in the history of the NFL. To reduce QB play to the end result is ill-advised.

Sure, you could argue that Sims won the starting position at the beginning of the season, when all they had to go on was practice, where perhaps the pressure wasn't as crippling as playing games that count against real opposition. Given that Rhule made Sims the centerpiece of his portal transfers, it's hard to imagine Sims wouldn't start the season, even if the staff was starting to have doubts. I'm not entirely convinced Sims was seriously injured; I think he may have helped take himself out of the game, making it easier for Rhule to replace him.
Can you imagine Rhule launching his Husker debut by admitting his portal QB was a wash-out, and a totally non-heralded QB leftover from Frost had earned the start?
I agree with you. Haarberg was a better game manager with an occasional play that made us say WOW. I believe he regressed as the year went on however, becoming more of a liability than an asset for the team. I still don't know how we were able to pull off that Northwestern win after a first play interception, a three and out, and then another interception, but I'm glad we did.
For whatever reason, Sims just could not seem to get out of his own way. He has all the tools of being a playmaker, it just wouldn't click for him this year.

Who caught the snap, made the runs and threw the passes on the scoring plays? You couldn't count on Sims to do any of that, and Purdy wasn't available. Without Haarberg we don't win those games because we didn't have anyone else on the roster. He played the most important position on the field in each of our wins. We won because he was on the field.
Safe to assume you also believe Iowa won 10 games because of their QB play? He caught the snaps, had a season long run of 18 yards, and averaged throwing one touchdown pass every other game! He played the most important position on the field.
My sarcastic comments aside, I was impressed that we were able to win with Haarberg as our QB. He did an admirable job under the circumstances. That said, I hope the coaches can find or coach up other QBs to handle leading the team next year. I do not currently see a lot of upside with HH as our quarterback in the future.

32 minutes ago, Mavric said:"Until HH started winning" is a pretty back-handed way to talk about the guy who won the first two games he started and five of his first six - which is the only five games we won this year - with the only loss coming to the #1 team in the country.
But keep trying to convince yourself that Sims is really better than he is.
Please expand on how and why we won because of HH instead of winning despite HH. I'm assuming you'll fail to mention his 49% passing completion percentage and the way he regressed through the season. But I know your schtick is to nitpick single pieces of a larger statement to try and get a rise out of others. If that gives you your jollies, so be it.
My comment was answering the question of whether Sims earned the starting spot at the beginning of the season versus being handed the position. I did not hear a peep from others suggesting that Purdy or Haarberg should be the starter so I tend to assume that neither of them earned the starting spot. Sims' performances did not justify the starting spot and consequently he was benched.

You think that if he decided to come here he'd be the starter or make him earn it??? I don't know if Jeff Sims actually earned it or it was given to him??
Sims earned it. Purdy was hurt and Haarberg was playing QB, but moonlighting as a tight-end. Until HH started winning (against the largely the easiest teams on our schedule), the assumption was that Sims would come back and start once healthy. Bummer for him, but we kept winning and couldn’t justify swapping. Then when he did get opportunities, he did not capitalize and solidified his spot on the bench.

Yeah but most high ranked recruits usually pan out. Nebraska tends to get high ranked recruits and for some reason or another they can't handle being here or never live up to the potential that recruiting services think so highly of them. I just wish that highly ranked kids would look Nebraska's way and pan out to give the program some momentum and to give the fans something to look forward too.
Some of that can be attributable to the kids, but a lot of that can be improved upon with proper coaching and development. Until Rhule, we really have not had good, true coaching since Pelini. Bo and his staff had a knack for identifying relatively under the radar talent and maximizing their production. Rhule appears to have the same skills based on the one year sample size. I was specifically impressed with Princewell, Lenhardt, Coleman, Lloyd, and the several fill-in offensive linemen this year. If this first year was any indication, we should see several future pros coming through the program once again... and hopefully the wins will follow as these guys develop.

I mean to be fair had we had a Good to elite QB on roster this year we would possibly been a 9-10 win team.
lol But yes I get what your says. I wish it worked that way.
Sure, but we threw money at Sims who was arguably considered a potential NFL prospect (at the time), Wisconsin threw it at Mordecai, Card at Purdue, etc. You can throw money at kids until you're blue in the face, however at the core, success comes down to development and execution.

Focus NIL $ on negative plays...you fumble/throw a pick..that is a cut in $. Missed tackle, cut in $..drop a pass, miss a block, etc..focus it on plays that prevent you from winning...not sure how you do that, but it would be nice.
Yeah... no chance that happens, but nice in theory.
What's frustrating is that many fans think it is as simple as just throwing money at the recruits/kids and boom we win 10+ games. I would argue that development of talent and focused practice of repetition are the keys to success. Not saying the donors are irrelevant by any means, but that money is not what has stopped us from being a winning program recently.

I can't say there's any direct correlation with this stat and NIL funding, but I saw data prior to this season starting that we are top 5 in football net revenue. That's net revenue. We ranked ahead of Alabama.
Again - maybe doesn't correlate to NIL funding. But just throwing that out there.
But is our luggage "Louis"?
Money is not our problem, development has been and hopefully Rhule & staff will be able to correct that in the months and year ahead.

What kind of rules are in place to keep the roster from meeting and running their own “practice”. With maybe some coach suggestions.
Kind of like the voluntary High school practices in July, that coaches can run as “camps”.
If the upper classmen are intent on winning, what is preventing them from doing this for next year?
this is a question more than anything….

Don't worry...It's not gonna happen.
I wasn’t worried. Better idea is to a commitment to running the ball, and not just on second down after an incomplete pass on first. Settling for drop backs on 2/3 plays is not looking like a successful idea for this team.

We just need to go in to the locker and think about how we can come out with an offense. I'd try Haarberg if he's available. Maybe get a running game going with some play action passes.
Absolutely not.

We need to run the ball and churn out some first downs. Defense being out there way too much.

I had to laugh at their coach telling the reporter at halftime that his team didn't play their best.
Limongi has always been an a-hole so it's par for the course. Jones is quite a talent though, would be very nice to have him on board for the future of the Huskers.

I'm guessing NU lost this game the second they ran the exact play every single Wisconsin fan, player and coach hoped they would on that 4th and 1 play. Get that yard, probably go ahead and score and be up 21-0.
Is Fidone the softest, weakest TE to ever wear a NU uniform?
Just a reminder, it's halftime and the score is 14-10. Let's pump the brakes on the sky is falling attitude.

Why not kick the the field goal here? This swings momentum in Wisconsin favor. Not the right decision or the right play.
Would've been about a 50 yarder. I'm ok with the call, execution needs to improve (obviously).

"Haarberg with a better arm and worse mobility" doesn't seem like that bad of a tradeoff, IMO. Admittedly I haven't been to any of his high school games, but unless he's some kind of complete headcase, that seems like a guy you could live with at QB.
I guess so, but his high school performance isn't inspiring or hints at consistent winning. He had more skill around him than +90% of the teams they faced and they still fell short of expectations year after year. A whole lot of hype over substance up to this point in time.

Both Kaelin and Flores had very good HS careers winning tons of games. Sure, one won the state championship and the other lost in the second round of the playoffs to a team with other D1 players.
Flores isn't even on the three deep depth chart for OSU.
Maybe my expectations for a D1, Power Five QB recruit are higher than they should be, but Kaelin is very unimpressive as the only QB recruit in the class. Flores & Rezac were clearly better high school QBs than him, hopefully the staff can help him develop.

I don't want Willy Korn at Nebraska. I don't want to prioritize the speed option & option variants. I want to bring in an actual QB who is good at actual QB things. You know, like reading a defense and throwing the ball? And honestly that player is probably Kaelin.
Let's start there. Willy Korn just gets you another Jeff Sims in here because you're prioritizing a track star QB who likely can't hit the broadside of Lancaster county in the passing game. Definitely tired of that stuff.
Husker football needs to let go of the option, IMO.
Agreed in full, minus the Kaelin part. I've been very unimpressed by his play and he had several D1 athletes around him his whole high school career. I hope he develops in time, but I think he's another Haarberg with a better arm and worse mobility. Honestly, we'd be better off giving the scholarship to someone else in trying to get Flores out of Gretna to come back or giving an offer to the Westside QB... at least those two know how to win and lead.
OP is obsessed with firing Raiola & now Satterfield. We lead the Big Ten in rushing while mainly using 3rd & 4th stringers at the skill positions and QBs who treat the football like a hot potato too often. Thankfully Rhule came out today and shut down that sort of talk. I loved the rhetorical, "has that worked out here?". I'd be surprised if there were any firings this offseason, though I could see a few taking jobs elsewhere if the right opportunity came along... specifically White, Martin, & McGuire.

Awful QBs and awful OL is a helluva combination.
Not sure I can agree with the OL being the problem today or most of the season. They’re protecting well and making holes. We just have the turnover bug at the QB position.

Probably cause Kaelin to reconsider and might bring along a few other more heralded recruits than what we currently have. May not be a bad tradeoff if it turns out that he flips.
