I haven't watched a press conference in a while. I usually just read the transcripts and highlights. Frost's face says a lot. He's damn tired of watching practice. I hope that translates into coming out with a whole case of whoop ass this weekend.

Yea I hope they get their chance to take out what seems like years of frustration on Saturday.  It'd be nice if they could get up early and just beat the snot of Northwestern.

I think we’ve got two potentially great QBs in both McCaffery and Smothers. The rating doesn’t mean as much as people think. The development of a kid in the program is what matters. Both McCaffery and Smothers had higher star ratings than Lamar Jackson, for instance. In fact, Jackson was the 12th highest rated dual-threat QB in his graduating High School class. Only 2 of those players ended up having significant playing time as QB throughout College - Kyler Murray & Sam Darnold. Joe Burrow was also part of this class and ranked ahead of Lamar, but only one season of really play time as we know.

Russell Wilson was a 2 star, Manziel was a 3 star, and plenty of other examples like that.

We’re hearing great things about McCaffery developing, and after yesterday’s game (174.2 QB RTG) we know he can handle the job well. He needs more game reps. If he didn’t fumble, his rating would have been closer to 190. That’s elite.

Yep. And to that point Ohio State has recruited well but the odds of one of those kids being a number #2 draft pick are slim.

  3. Also it kind of feels good to get this one out of the way. That’s the best team we’ll play all year and no doubt Justin Fields is the best quarterback in the league. Clemson’s Sunshine will probably win the Heisman and be the #1 pick but Fields will be a close second. Honestly with the success mobile quarterbacks are having in the NFL I’d probably take him over Lawrence. Ohio State will always have a good quarterback but he is elite. I look forward to playing them when he’s gone (hopefully next year).

So, who replaces the two suspended players next week?

We are not deep in the secondary. I wish Joseph was ready to go we could really use another good corner just get the feeling he’s not. Pola-Gates still looks pretty light but I’d guess maybe he’d replace Williams. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gifford sees the field for us already this year. He can play multiple positions and I believe he’s higher up the depth chart than people think.

  5. One thing I will say is I thought our line played fairly well for the most part. There were a bunch of times that I thought we had the right play calls and they opened up holes but the overall speed of Ohio State was just amazing. Those guys close gaps quick. There were a lot of 5 yard gains today that would have been 10+ yards against most of the other teams we’ll face this year.

Ezra Miller should also be someone to watch down the line to help us. He was a very talented player and was wondering if he might play some this year? Haven't heard much about him but maybe he has to sit it out this year? Maybe he needs to learn the system better before going back in as he has only has a short amount of time with it. He also was away from the game so it might take a little adjusting before he is ready to go again.

Regardless, I am excited about him and so many other o line players. The depth of the O-line is the best it has been in a while.

In no way want to dog on the kid but I don’t expect him to contribute anytime soon here.

He was 4* on 247's rating, just not on their composite score. And even the composite was just barely below it - .89 is the mark for 4*, and Brown was .8897.

And where's Demariyon Houston at? He's another one who was just barely shy of 4*. And Jamie Nance was 4* on Rivals. I think people forget just how many guys Frost has been redshirting!

What worries me is how desperate we were at the position last year and neither Houston or Nance sniffed the field.  Also I don't think I've heard either one of their names mentioned by any coaches.

So....is this a back up plan for if we don't get other recruits....or, is this guy really turning it on this year and he's better than playing for Troy?

I guess, I should also ask....are JUCOs playing this year?  I thought I remembered at one point they weren't going to.

Troy probably could have beat us the last couple years, so there's that.

Word is Thompkins is the #2 RB as of right now.

Coaches trying to decide if they'll release a depth chart to the public before the first game or not...

There’s a lot of talent in that room so for him to come out as #2 especially ahead of Rahmir who played last year is pretty big. Great for him if true.

You know an Olineman is doing things right during S&C when he starts getting vascular.  What a beautiful sight!!!

Cam is a freak. Incredible potential at that position with his athleticism.

There is a lot to this.  JD was rumored to be so so on being a husker and wandale is over the top excited.  It's possible that JD was going to be a OR here and decided to finally jump for what felt like greener grass.

I had heard that JD was not pleased with how Wandale came in and was getting plays designed around him and getting a lot more touches than him. That was early last year and while I don’t think he would have been an “or” with Wandale he may have felt Wandale was getting the role he should have.

Some of you guys are insane. Dickerson is by far and away the best athlete on his team and it ain’t close. This would be a great pick up.

I didn’t say he wasn’t the best athlete? I said he might not be the best football player on his team. Same with DD, was the most naturally gifted athlete I’ve personally been around but like I said that doesn’t always equate to the best football player on the field.

I have no expectations of winning at Ohio State.  But if you're going to play tOSU, why not do it when both teams are rusty and at a disadvantage?  You really wanna do it when they are a well oiled machine halfway down the stretch?  Catch em early, probably our best case scenario of having a shot.  The Big Ten isn't screwing us over, everyone has to play someone.  Get over it Karen's.  People complained and complained because no football, now complaining about opposition.  Go figure.

Exactly.  It's the first game of the year so my thoughts are that their superior depth at least has a little less of an impact.  And if it's a sloppy game you never know what can happen, maybe they make a few mistakes and maybe the ball bounces are way a couple times.  We went toe to toe with them two years ago and could have won that game.  Get your nutz strapped and let's go.
