To add on suspicions - this feels like the kind of kid you'd regret not having on your football team if you don't get him. Feels like a Breece Hall from Kansas - "he's not that good, he plays lower competition, it probably doesn't translate, it's fine he goes somewhere else", etc.

Yep. Look at this picture from the current basketball season....

I agree....I'm just fearful that our S&C program did no favours to Matt Farniok by adding too much weight at the expense of nimbleness.  With Benhart already challenged to move laterally very quickly due to his huge frame, S&C better not encumber him with any more weight that would further slow his already heavy feet.

Farniok was ok here and there, but when it came to having to move his feet to get into position, he couldn't do that very well at any point in his career.

  3. Essentially, Kansas State, Iowa and Nebraska writers think their respective schools could land him. This will be one where you ignore the noise and wait for a Wiltfong crystal ball pick, if he makes one, to know where the kid will go.

Honestly, I think the kid has a future as an OLB, not DE. Frame looks like it would be better for college football at the 235 range at OLB.

  4. In short, Nebraska isn't wasting there time trying to land this kid.

Visited Missouri, Auburn and Georgia Tech the last few days.

I'd only be frustrated if we were not in on some damn good TE's across the country. Since we are in the final groups for a handful of really good TE's, Riley going to college in some other state isn't going to matter in the end.

Call me a koolaid drinker if you like, but if we can get "snaps", red zone offensive playcalling and kickoffs figured out, I think on their own that will yield a better than .500 result.

It's more simple than that. Get a deep passing game going and better redzone execution and they had a winning season in 2020. WOuld have defeated MN and NW, for examples.

The way Benhart got beat outside last year at times, he better work more on quickness and less on strength this offseason, or someone (Banks?) may step up and challenge for his spot.

He was one of the better freshman OL in the Big Ten. By the time he is a senior he will have developed a lot.

  7. When Frost was hired I thought it would be the offense that would come together before the defense. The opposite happened. They haven't been able to get the WR room recruited and playing at the Big Ten level yet. Once that happens the offense will be a lot better. The OL is going to continue to get better now that we have bigger, more athletic guys taking over.

    LT: Turner

    LG: Piper

    C: Jurgens

    RG: ?

    RT: Benhart

Big, athletic guys. Just need to fill out the next 5.

  8. I'd put a lot of money on the table for Luke thinking he would have landed at a P5 school by now. It's dead silence out there. I don't care if a lot of the kids that left have bad attitudes, or selfish, or whatever, some are learning the hard way that the grass is not greener all of the time.

One of them ended up a DB at FIU (or FAU...whatever school it was).

One ended up at a MAC school. Yep, be stupid on Twitter and leave the Big Ten for the  MAC. Stupid!

The IG lover didn't even bother showing up at the start of practice and now he will be Maryland's head case to deal with.

Luke thinks he is better than he is as a QB and will find out the hard way.

  9. So I looked at who Luke has followed on Twitter and it's a bunch of P5 type of coaches for the most case but then I looked to see if they followed Luke back and its basically dead silence. He is learning the hard way that schools are not interested.

Watched his film a couple of weeks ago. Worth a scholarship offer. He is the type that would get a Kansas State, Wisconsin and Minnesota offer and up a starter and playing good against Nebraska. Time to flip that around where he gets the Nebraska offer, comes to Nebraska to play, while Minnesota and Kansas State types offer and he becomes a good player at Nebraska. I like his size and athletic ability. Not sure what position he will project to at Nebrask at the moment, but I would bring him in as an ATH and go from there.

Ive never quite understood the obsession with size lately.

    A baller is a baller.

Size matters a lot in football.

Longer wingspans for the Dl allows  them to easier occupy more space.

Size on the OL makes it harder for pass rush to get through and around.

Larger WR's who are athletic have a bigger catch radius and a bigger blocking radius, making it harder for a defender to break a block.

Size matters for linebackers in the Big Ten since this is a LOS league and you have to be able to take on blocks from big lineman.

Go and look at the rosters of the teams who win the Big Ten over the last 15 years and you will never find any of those teams with smaller players starting - always a lot of size and bulk.

The coaches and players didnt know Luke was looking to transfer.  When he didnt come back from break, they thought maybe he got covid or something.  Both coaches and players tried calling him and he wouldnt answer.   He came back, grabbed his stuff and let the coaches know his decision.

That is a me and not I teammate. Maybe what the high school coaches in CO said about him is true. The coaches said in high school said he was a jeerk quit often. Sounds like the kid will need a reality check of humility.

The list that he posted was a great snap shot.  Some produced elsewhere and some not so much. I think part of it is we have been void of "talent" so log that a lot of guys who have "success" we think are all world.  JD comes to mind as does Bell.  They transfer and really don't do much.  It also makes me hope Frost and Co really drill don our player evaluation.  Every kid playing in college "wants to play".  We need kids who "want to play here"......Also need to find a way to develop the kids.  They were not highly rated for no reason.  IMHO, Frost and Co are still learning how to be the head man at a major program that is rebuilding.....

Yep. I think they are starting to adjust the profiles of who they are recruiting though. I think if Frost can get a higher percentage of solid recruits that are from the Midwest it will pay off bigly as they are used to the Midwest lifestyle. Those Miami kids - don't waste time on them for a few years until we are winning at a higher level. It's a different life culture down there.
