  1. The success of the 2021 season will be about how the offense does. If things turn for the better and they can average 32 points or so a game, the team will have a winning record.

What will matter for the defense is the growth of the younger guys. If they keep getting better than the defense will have the depth to last all season without major issues.

  2. The KY 247 writer posted that he took off to Miami. Should by announcing for KY by Monday according to what he posted. Based on the tone of what he was wrote, you can tell Wandale wanted out before the season was even done. He already left Nebraska for good after the Rutgers game.

That right there shows why there were more L's than W's. Only time when you can get away with something like that from a usage perspeive is if your RB is rushing for close to 1,500 yards or more. You can't have one WR among the top in the nation for usage. Makes it too easy for a defense to gameplan.

@uberismI moved your post that contained a series of Tweets. Too long and I'm not sure what you were trying to share, but if there's a specific tweet you'd wish to share, please repost.

Thanks. Didn't copy the way I expected it to then. It's a name they are looking at.

The assumption that our offense is changing is unfounded, yet I read something about it everyday. Lubick was brought in to help run Frost's system, it's the system they believe in. Maybe they tweak some things, but there won't be wholesale changes.

Changing isn't about going from a raid offense to the option. That isn't what people are saying. Different body types allows you to run different types of plays out of similar formations but the attack can be different. Take Fidone for instance. One of the best TE recruits you will ever see in the Midwest in our lifetime and he will be able to be used outside and inline. You can lien up in a double TE set and motion Fidone out to WR and run him deep and have a big outside WR come underneath. Fidone runs a legit 4.6 40 time for his size so defenses are going to have to account for that once they see it on film.

The quicker Frost can stretch the field in the 2021 season the more the offense can open up and having a downhil run game can allow the OL to pound away at the DL while the defense is stretched out having to defend the space.

Tweener for sure. Not big enough for a TE or fast enough for a WR.  Another highly rated guy that we can't figure out how to get him on the field.

I'd love a "bigger base".  12-13 personnel.  H-Back in some formations.  Under center and some pistol/shotgun.  Some dives, traps and counters.....Big bodied receivers who win the 50/50 balls and can box out DB's....Not to mention set some rub routes on more crossing passings....And the ability to throw and complete a back shoulder fade.  The money pass where only the receiver can get it......

I'm not getting my hopes up......I expect more of the same.

Think similar to 2018 with some adjustments.

  7. Yep. Those smaller, speed guys could work in the Pac 12 and AAC, but not in the Big Ten. Even Rondale Moore, as damn good as he was as a freshman, started to get figured out by his 3rd year.

I think Frost has learned that the hard way. Big TE's, big bodied WR's (larger blocking zone and catch radius), Tall and athletic offensive lineman that can pull and get to the second level, and big running backs and you can run the power spread.

Pound the ball at them, use TE's down the seam and sidelines for big plays, and WR's for the edge game and down the field.

In the Big Ten those small slot guys don't get you wins. They can get you first downs and some yards, but not wins. You can ask how many wins Moore has won for Purdue. One could argue the Northwestern game in his first career game, but that is about it.

What are we wanting Frost to do? He, like Chip prefers to run the ball.

2015 Oregon (Frost OC, Lubick WR) - ran the ball 60% of the time and was 6th in the country in rush offense.

Frost and Lubick grew up in Chip's system. Bubble Screens, PA Pass, Inside Zone, Outside Zone, Zone Read, Power. It's the system they run. I don't really get what people are advocating for, I find it highly unlikely they scrap the system they've both ran their entire careers.

Yeah, but even Chip Kelly doesn't run the offense at UCLA that he ran at Oregon. The rule changes and a ton of teams that started to run the same concepts made it no longer be a unique offense. Against damn good defenses in the Big Ten you have to adjust to what will work out of the schemes that Frost is comfortable with.

  9. Purdue? That would be stupid. Moore was electric WITH top pretty good top end speed but started to fade as defenses figured out his weaknesses. Bell, now that guy is legit.

I bet he still goes to Kentucky.

Ha! You should see the Klien poster on the 247 site. That person needs some help.......has gone off the deep end.

    Not enrolled: Farniok Dismuke

I expect younger Farniok to transfer. He will never become a starter.

This turned out to be meaningful. Mills must be set to graduate in the spring.

  12. We have two spots left and can't bring in anymore on scholarship for this class. Thus, get a final answer from Avante and for the final spot, if Avante wants in, just go for the best pure player you can get and call it good. Otherwise bring in another WR and best defensive player regardless of position.

Ideally, IMO, you get Avante and then add another offensive player.

And we will need 2 scholarship departures before fall camp starts. Plenty of time for that and we will easily get there.

  13. 1: We are recruiting bigger bodies at WR and RB the last two classes (2020 and 2021).

2: Frost has tried the small, quick guys that worked in the Pac 12 but always was stone walled when facing Big Ten (OSU) and SEC defenses. Frost tried his style the last two seasons and it didn't work from the perspective of putting points on the board.

3: With bigger bodies on the outside you have a bigger catch radius to pass too, better downfield blocking (if the effort and technique are good), and our OL recruits have been bigger and more athletic.

I suspect what you will see is a bigger emphasis on a downhill running scheme out of the spread offense. More emphasis on using TE's as a mismatch. You can line up with a double TE set and have one or both motion to the slot to go with a big running back and big WR's. That will make it harder for a defense to defend instead of having a small DuckR player being the focal point. The defenses in the Big Ten are too f#&%ing good to run the zone, lateral offenses in the Big Ten. Gotta use the TE's, pass deep to big WR's, and downhill rushing. Then you can use your speedy guys with size on motions, screens, etc.

Don't know much about Stepp, but size at running back is a great addition. I hope this is a strong sign of NU moving to a power spread run game, like we saw @Rutgers. Would be a good idea in my opinion.

I have a feeling they are moving to that direction. Big RB's, downhil schemes, big body WR's to throw deep and big body TE"s that will be mismathes.
