  1. Just embrace the enigma, guys.  Why get upset??  Doesn't do anyone any good...

Purdy played well.  I'm pleasantly surprised about that.  So many little things, in these tight games...chubba breaks a shoestring tackle at the end, he's probably scoring a td...nick doesn't get tripped on 3rd down in OT, it's a sack and FG attempt...Lloyd runs his dig route 1 yard further down the field, it's a possible catch...FB goes the correct way on 4th and 1, maybe we get it...alvano makes the FG to end the half...etc...

We are what our record says, yes.  I just feel very different about how we got here and where we are going.  This isn't a captainless ship anymore, imo.

Turnovers suck, and we've been good at those for a while now...losing sucks, we all agree, sure.  I'm certainly not happy right now, but I'll survive...and still cheer on my team.

It did?  We shot 30.8% on 3s for the game and 58.8% from the line.

If that's "better", I'd hate to see worse.

Yes...it did.  2nd half, much better.  Way more ball/player movement...less tominaga chuck up 3s...Brice Williams took over for a good stretch in the 2nd...and Gary was outstanding offensively...from the line, not so much...he was so under control...yes, better.

  3. I like this team so far...it's early, far from a finished product.

I dogged Wilcher for being a liability the last few years, but he looks good so far.  More efficient.

Lawrence plays hard and seems to be getting better at running the show.

Mast is a stud...he is always under control...dryer sheet vertical but the guy can play.

Allick does the little things, valuable piece.

Coleman is kind of meh for me so far...but he's serviceable, for sure.

    Hoiberg is a dawg

Rice has a huge upside...liability on D so far, and a tentative driver at times...he's a knock down corner 3 guy though.

    Tominaga will be tominaga

Bryce Williams is a solid player in all areas

Gary will help defensively...as will Blaise

We have a chance to be sneaky good, I think

This consequences of this loss are very detrimental to our progress. This loss
    (1) Took away any chances (if any) to win our division. Killed any glimmer of hope.

    (2) Severely decreased our chances to make a bowl.

    (3) Killed the momentum and confidence the team built over the past three weeks

    (4) Gave our remaining opponents a manual on how to render our defense and offense ineffective.

our next three opponents will tear us apart unless this team finds a way to play with intensity and purpose. We did not come to today’s game with a winning mindset. We came thinking we had the game sealed.

    1.  Haven't been to a bowl game since 2016.  Championships are nice...but lets have perspective...

    2. Severely?  Seems like a leap.

    3.  They've  played very similar for a month and a half.  I fail to see momentum being crushed...

    4. Coaches get paid to coach.  Watch tape, make adjustments.

Get out of your bunker...the sky is not falling.   Just embrace the enigma that is our team.

  5. I learned that some nebraska fans get surprised easily.

This is the same team that played minnesota...and the same team that won 5 of 6.

They're winning in spite of themselves...and gave themselves chances to win in games they had no business winning.

It may feel the same, but it's different than years past.

Also, I know we have HS coaches on here.

How do you choose your game balls?  Are certain brands harder to hold onto?

I know we used to have our QB pick out 3 or 4 as game balls.  I remember he had smallish hands, so he would like them a little underinflated so he could grip them better.

Odd story...when I was a senior we played the same team to begin and end the season.  We got new game balls that year...different brand...tacky as hell, crazy grippy.

Game 1 shows up, humid as hell...everyone drenched, uniforms, skin, u all know that feeling.  All of a sudden those ultra tacky balls get slicker than snot on a doorknob.  We fumbled 8 times that game.  5 qb/c exchanges.

We told our coach it was the ball.  He listened...we switched balls for the rest of the season and hardly put it on the turf...not that it matters, other than to sum up the story...but we avenged the opening season loss with a 40 point win on the road in our rematch at seasons end.

This game ball thing might have legs...but I have to imagine there have been so many guys through this program the past decade...surely if it were a concern it would have been dealt with?

    Anyways...gbr

  7. Pick on me all u want :) I really don't care what message boarders say lol

I've seen these kids play live...a lot.  Brix is Tyler Blum 2.0...don't know him?  Look him up.  And no I'm not jaydon lol...I dont even live in Underwood, the beef jerky capitol of Iowa...but they should win a state title fwiw.

I haven't been wrong about too many western iowa guys since I moved back to the area.

I hope this kid is awesome, and I hope we get him...but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he's the second coming of Tyler Blum.

He might be the only person in Iowa who knows how to play football must get

In all seriousness...there is a kid from Underwood HS that is super under recruited...he's an absolute beast.

    Jaydon Foote 6'1" 315 IOL/NT

This kid has impressed me way more than brix or any other iowa prospect...

Iowa has some talented kids for prospects this year...not quite as top heavy as nebraska...but definitely quite a few future D1 guys...

Don't be surprised to see Gottula starting at LT next year.  The coaches absolutely love his potential there.

Brix would be good LT but will probably end up at RT.

Class A football in iowa isn't always the best translation for success at the next level...not saying this kid is going to be a bust...but he won't be a day 1 plug and play guy wherever he goes IMO

  10. Hey...we won a game...on the road...playing far from our best.

So, let's scrap everything and start over...we are terrible, such a bad team.  We are so undisciplined, have no playmaker, its a good thing illinois is so bad thats the only reason we won, fire that coach, bench this guy, run the option, but dont run it that way, throw the ball but dont look directly at your receiver, play good defense but dont cover so soft, Let's start our 3rd string quarterback from now one...because, you know...football...

    Jesus, guys.

Oh, and how could I forget...we won't win anymore games this year, let alone get to a bowl game, because we just won a game playing far from our best....

That's the alphabet soup on this thread...

  11. Didn't learn much...going into this season, Michigan was the one game on our schedule we had zero chance of winning...IMO...literally every other game it wouldn't surprise me if we win or lose

I really won't be surprised if we end up 9-3...2-10 or anywhere in between.  We are an enigma...it's best to just accept it

Now get Tominaga back and find another shooter, and you'd have to call the portal season successfull...

Allick is a worker...it'll be good for him, I think to be home around family.  For no other reason than that, I think he does well here

Based on what I saw if Iowa last year, I'm not sure if he's better than the options we already had.  Maybe better ball security but he doesn't seem to drive to the hoop or shoot 3's.  He started, but only played 22.5 min/game.  If we are only expecting 20-ish minutes/game, then OK.  If we are expecting him to put in starter minutes (at least 30), then I don't see it.

Keep in mind,  Joe Toussaint transferred to West Virginia this year.  He was essentially Ulis in his career at iowa.  He started 21 games his last year at Iowa and averaged 17 minutes and 4 ppg...

At West Virginia, he started 1 game, averaged 21 minutes and shot 80 points better from 3, doubled his scoring output to about 9.5 ppg...not a star, but a solid player, far better than at iowa.

I'm giving this a wait and see approach.   McCaffrey tends to bury his point guards.  Ulis could be something...or he could be what he's always been.  Either way, he's a P5 PG with B1G experience.  We didn't have that before today.

  14. Mast is legit.  The comparisons to Wilhelm should end at the fact that they are both white, play basketball, should be a PF type and that they both now play for nebraska...

This guy has a chance to be a better version of walker...Bradley kind of used him right, maybe not a point forward, but scorer/facilitator who's got a big10 body...

This is a sneaky good pick up.  Not crazy to think he could be a 15 & 7 guy with 3ish assist a game in the B1G

  15. I'd love to have him, sure...but I guess I'm drinking the rhule kool-aid...if he doesn't want to be here, he needs to go somewhere else.

Maybe he'll flip flop again, he's done that a few times, he's a kid with the world in his hands.  I'll hold no ill will...we want a QB that is all in...if that's not him, then we need to move on.
