  1. We were up against a quality team.  We barely showed up for that.  As pointed out in several ways here.  Our QB is there, he may be a bit of an exception as to attitude and using his abilities the very best he can.  But of course the O-Line is just barely there.. so:  Not much offense to speak of.

D showed little in the way of physically challenging each play coming at them from a highly ranked team.  They were beaten, gassed, and punked, similar to the O-Line.

Coaches.  Head Coach.  Um... we hopefully are past the point of thinking of canning another in a long string of coaches who come here and are victimized by the culture.   In the very long run any coach with any chops at all will make us into a 6 or 7 (or maybe more) win team, bowl every year.  It'll be okay in that respect.  We just have to stick with him, and hopefully he'll stick with us.

I still am struggling to understand why these renovations are necessary right now.

Also to announce this before approval and before an absolute slacking doesn’t make sense to me either.

    Conjecture mode on:

Money talks.  The boosters can't hold up the "sell outs" any more and have been grumbling about doing so for years now.  This sizing down to 70 some thousand fans is closer to the real sell outs.   Calling it "renovation" is not a lie, but it is a nice piece of PR from Master PR Man Trev Alberts.  There's of course more to it but that's the kernel of it.

  3. I hate getting sunburned for a big loss like that.  And having a fan from the visiting team talk how "cute" our mascots and cheers are as they kick another extra point or as we punt.

I could have easily gone to the penitentiary for acting on my thoughts today.

  4. The Wolverweenies do well in the first half, but we take over after Coach Harbaugh eats a bad Runza at half time.

The results are at the end of each individual score prediction thread. Minnesota and Colorado results are posted now. I imagine as Mavric has time he’ll get to the remaining games.

    Yeah..  I know how/where they're posted..   Thanks.

Slow your roll, we aint anywhere near back,  We have no oline and we have a really hard time getting to the QB against what should be inferior teams.

You beat me to it, especially after what I saw of the Swiss cheese, wimpy O-line.  It was sad, and we could tell that the coaches were attempting to run plays around the weaknesses here and there.

  7. I wish it was just about the coach.  It's more complex than that (if we're talking about "curse" as in doomed to continue being not relevant).

We may be doomed to continue because of a lot of elements that are discussed individually, as if one or two of those things are "the reason we're not winning," when in fact we've accumulated over the years the whole losing package of elements and built a culture of losing.

I feel that a new Nebraska football has settled in over the years.  Replacing the AD, the HC and all of his assistants, the players, the facilities, etc, has not only failed to change things to the right direction, they have failed to stop the downward slide into pretty much getting worse each season.

Has the Rhule hire turned that around?  Of course not:  it's just another coach.  What needs to change are things only a coach cannot change, there's just too much of it after a twenty year gradual (and accelerating) downhill slide.  It's the culture, not some one or two things polluting the Nebraska culture, but now The Nebraska Culture.  The coach could be a good start, but he and everyone involved needs to recognize that Nebraska football does not have broken legs or a heart problem, but something more like sepsis.

...We'll probably wind up with two or three of them injured then what...

I'd like to work up some stats on injuries "these days" vs "in the olden days," especially wrt the QB position and especially Husker football.  .... Okay I'd like to see some stats.

It seems like we get a lot of that.. oh hell I don't know.  I'll geegle around... er, google.  Gaagle?  Maybe there's an article about it somewhere.

  9. As far as the starter goes, I do not have strong leanings with either Sims or Haarberg.  As stated by others, Sims will get the starter job when he's "healthy," and to me that does not necessarily mean when he's truly fit, as in when he's lost his bad habits we've all seen and cringed over.  But having said that I do get the feeling Sims is bothered enough by seeing film of his interceptions and fumbles that he's dead serious as to taking care of it next chance he gets and beyond as Coach Rhule seems to believe himself.

I just like knowing we do have Haarberg, as starter or backup to Sims.  He performed well at home against Northern Ill.

It's not uncommon for us to compare cases even while there can be vast differences. Or, even make comparisons to our own life experiences and decision making. What might seem terribly bad judgement and a character issue might well be associated with a disorder. I am aware of cases as examples involving schizophrenia and kleptomania where individuals stole items with regularity. Bipolar would be another example. There are overlapping features among disorders. It's possible to have more than one.

And, how can it be...That's not even rational behavior one might say. "Stupid", "Dumb" or whatever other label. It is indeed destructive though choices can have a myriad of influences. It's not nearly as simple as one might think. Absent familiarity of causes and associated behaviors it can be awfully difficult to comprehend.

Our not being aware of what we don't know is problematic as well. It's a characteristic lacking self awareness. Ignorance. Not dumbness or, stupidity. It's okay to not know! Believing one knows when not knowing is another issue however...Making assumptions isn't rational either. That's where attitude, genuine curiosity and objectivity comes into play.  Each individual case has it's unique characteristics.

If/when a person recognizes, accepts and is taking action to address their mental challenges to more effectively negotiate their life path, that deserves recognition and support rather than shamming and condemnation. There are plenty examples where that would apply but this might not be one.

Nutrition and adjusting one's diet, medications and a variety of things can be helpful in addition to therapy. There's no diagnosis or attempt to make one from here.

My *opinion* as well is that it's in Arik's interest that he focuses on whatever challenges he has for the time being. It's possible that at some juncture athletic participation would be helpful. That would involve professionals with competencies working with him to make an accurate determination, assist him in changing his conduct and treat his condition, if any, toward possibly returning to the field once he's proven himself to be an asset to his teammates.

That would require a commitment and effort on his part. If he does that, all the power to him!  There's no suggestion that whatever he wants supersedes the interest of the team or, that what's been demonstrated is okay. It's not. I have no doubt that coach Rhule would summon the very best of Gilbert and will act in the interest in the team.

Well said.  That last bit, about you being without doubt in the HC's dealing for the best with Gilbert and the team etc is the big question, imo.  We don't know either one of them very well (we've not seen enough of them to detect patterns, etc).  I'm not truly worried, but I'm sure watching this.  I lean toward our new coach's integrity and overall wisdom in these matters for the simple reason he's been guiding kids in different venues for quite some time.   .... That about Lawrence Phillips is not as much a comparison as it is a reminder of how extraordinary efforts by well meaning people can sometimes have only temporary or no effect on that person's life.  I doubt very much at this point that there is much of a real comparison about him and Phillips so much as about the coaching challenges 'tween T.O. and now Rhule.  Phillips sprang to mind after that second arrest, though, for sure.  I do admit that.

There is absolutely no way he should be playing football.  He has too many issues.

Playing major college football causes stress.  Stress makes any mental disorder worse.

Sure, being part of the program, receiving counselling, nutrition, etc., may have helped, but he was already receiving that; but if he was eligible he would be an even worse disaster.

Thoughts went straight to Lawrence Phillips.  All the effort.  All the chances.  How things escalated.  But this... none of us know Gilbert at all, let alone well enough to know one way or the other how he'd respond to those counselling and nutrition and all that is suggested.  I am thinking of the team and the school and the fans.  I'm thinking he needs to get it all taken care of and then make an effort to make the team;  not stay on the team while working on it.  Just an opinion.

Not a lot of people named Heinrich H. since the 1940s...

Well, not in the U.S. probably.  Perhaps we need to include Germany in our recruiting regions.  This Heinrich we have seems to have certain abilities and perhaps goals.  We need more Heinrichs.  Find and unleash the Heinrichs.
