I just heard a story about Tucker Carlson devoting an entire show to promote how Viktor Orban took on the liberals haters and transformed Hungary into a model of Western conservatism. American conservatives were so impressed they recently held a CPAC conference in Budapest.

Of course to get there, Orban rewrote the constitution to favor his party and ensure reelection, shut down opposition media and lavished loyalists, forced centrists out of the party, instilled Christian nationalism through blatant xenophopbia and racism, and blamed anything wrong with Hungary on fellow Hungarian George Soros.

The Future of the Republican Party is Hungary.

A lot of them are really not even trying to hide it anymore.

Shapiro started a new Daily Wire + platform, and one of the key personalities of it, Matt Walsh, unashamedly identifies as a fascist in his twitter bio.

Aren't bad writing and plot holes part of the foundation of this franchise? You can't tell me you watched. ANH, TESB and ROTJ and thought they contained logical and well-written dialog and zero plot holes.

Nearly every show in this franchise is rife with issues. At some point you have to accept that it's part of the fabric of the story and move on.

I don't love the OT because of the incredible writing; I don't think anyone does.

That doesn't mean the writing has to suck moving forward 50 years later. There's a way to respect the source material without making the stuff you build off of it kind of suck. The way Disney has fumbled the ball with live action Star Wars is mind-boggling. Outside of TFA (which was a beat for beat reboot of ANH, and imo needed to be so) and Rogue One, and bits and pieces of The Mandalorian, it's been a trainwreck.

    Another example

    Spoiler

At the end of ROTS, Obi-Wan says they need to take Luke somewhere that the Sith won't be able to sense his presence. Which makes sense, and that to ANH also makes sense. Luke has lived on a dusty remote outer rim planet his whole life, and is naive to what the Force is and only barely has a vague understanding of who the Jedi were.

But now we have Obi-Wan, where...apparently everyone on Tattooine is aware of the Jedi, aware of the Inquisitors actively hunting the Jedi, lots of people probably know someone who had a hand cut off or was in the cantina when the one Jedi escapes, and Luke even has his home invaded by an ex-Jedi with a lightsaber. Luke doesn't know what a lightsaber is in ANH either.

All this makes the version of Luke in ANH look kind of like a dunce. And you can rationalize it away, but an even grander idea is...don't write story elements that need to be contortionisted into the canon.

The force ghost stuff could just be the depression and guilt that Obi-Wan felt after the end of ROTS. Not wanting to open up to hear Qui-Gon and feel the pain and guilt of failing with Qui-Gon's last request to train the boy. Qui-Gon also not pushing for his voice to be heard because Obi-Wan isn't ready to hear how to become a force ghost.

The last we should have seen Vader should have been when he walks out of the hanger bay after defeating Reva. The trick that Obi-Wan pulled in episode 5 to help with the escape is a perfect ending to that plot. They didn't need the duel in episode 6, not that it took some of the shine away from Vader, but it felt the most fanservicy moment in a show that was made of fanservice. Ep 6 should have instead focused on Reva getting to Tatooine and assaulting the Lars homestead leading to a Luke chase that ended with Obi-Wan talking Reva down. The reason Obi-Wan was on Tatooine at all was to protect Luke, and he did a piss poor job of that.

    Spoiler

Don't even get me started on how Reva found out about Luke

Bail Organa, a veteran of the clone wars and holder of probably the biggest secret in the entire galaxy, doesn't know to not use specifics in a message? "Obi-Wan, did you get Leia? Anakin's daughter? Does the emperor know that she's Anakin's daughter? Do they know about his son Luke? The one on Tattoine with his family on Tattoine? Do you think they've found out? Are you okay Obi-Wan? Oh man if they find out about this...":lol::lol:

    How?

    Spoiler

I'll give a few examples. Spoilers included

    • Leia's message to Obi-Wan in A New Hope clearly contextually implies that they've never met. People can quibble on technicalities all they want to defend the show, but the way it was written and performed in the first film is obviously a message to someone she didn't go on an interplanetary adventure with 9 years prior. Not only that, but she's not really personally shaken up by Ben's death in ANH, which she would have been had the events of the series made sense in the timeline.

    • Qui-Gon telling Obi-Wan that he'd always been there as a force ghost, but Obi-Wan wasn't ready to see him doesn't make any sense with the lore surrounding force ghosts. If it's based off of some sort of skill level or oneness with The Force, then it breaks Luke (who's entire connectedness to The Force thus far is deflecting two training blasts) almost immediately hearing Ben's voice to run, and seeing him on Hoth. Even if you square those, Yoda tells Obi-Wan in Ep III that Qui-Gon figured out the path to immortality, and that Yoda would train Obi-Wan to commune with him during his solitude on Tattooine. So...where's the reason that never happened? Maybe the argument is that Obi-Wan closed himself off from The Force. Okay sure. But did he do that immediately? He seemed down to follow Yoda's instructions and train after dropping off Luke, did he lose faith after a week, a month, a year?

    • Vader saying 'last time we fought i was but the learner but now I am the master' is not definitively broken by the events of the series, but it obviously makes way more sense referring to Mustafar than it does trying to rationalize it after two more fights long after Anakin is a 'learner'

That’s hilarious - when I say I’m being realistic with my predictions, I’m labeled as a pessimist, even when they end up being 100% accurate. Remember Minnesota 2013?  I told you I was being realistic with my prediction, coming off our loss the previous week and up against a Gopher team that was playing well. I believe your words were, “We’re not losing to Minnesota.”  What about the Riley hire, which I called a major fail? I was told, "It's an excellent hire - his past players all love him." When I pointed out that it wasn't realistic to think that a guy with his career win % could suddenly win here you said, "He'll have resources he's never had before!" I said no way, and was called a pessimist. Can't have it both ways!

I have old topics and threads screenshot and saved, over a dozen, where everything I said turned out to be 100% accurate, yet I was banned for being "negative" or a "pessimist." And yes, unless there's another Mavric, it was you. ("I guess you know more than Keyshawn Johnson ")

If you've got these screenshots, post them. Also post the screenshot of you being banned with the explained reason being that you were negative. Would love to see those.

People told me I was being “unrealistic” when I started teaching at my current school, which at the time was an “F” school. 80% minority and economically disadvantaged. I said it could be done, if we set a goal and kept our standards high and didn’t waver. We’re now a “B” school, nearly an A. The teachers who had more "realistic" views, who had given in to the belief that couldn't be done, all fell to the wayside.

First of all nobody literally gives a single s#!t about how amazing of a teacher you are. Second of all, I'm worried you're going to need to go to the chiropractor you're patting yourself on the back way, way too hard. Third of all, there's a difference between being unrealistic with things you can control and things you can't. Your perseverance and dedication as a teacher is on you - how your favorite football team does on the recruiting trail doesn't have a single ounce to do with you, so not sure how or why you're bringing up your personal life in regards to expectations surrounding recruiting.

I’ll keep my “unrealistic” high standards.

Your standards are that we're underperforming based on what you would like and want us to be. But reality doesn't care about what you want.

Mavric's standards are based on what's reasonable considering what and where we are, namely, a team with five straight losing seasons and 20 years since a championship or top ten finish.

One is rooted in actually looking at the situation, the other is rooted in wishful thinking. Neither is wrong, but one is, by definition, unreasonable. That's yours.

As for why I'm right about recruiting, well, isn't it obvious? Look at the past two decades! What have we accomplished with our barely "Top 20" classes? Nothing. Meanwhile, look at the teams who are winning conference and national titles. All had multiple Top 10 classes in the years leading up to their national title victories.

Sorry, which is it. Conference or national titles? You can't say both and then only use the evidence for one.

Plenty of schools not recruiting top 10 classes every year but winning conference championships.

Let's not act like Democrats - often promoting annoying policies like 'Latinx', mediocre solutions to the homeless in California, or strange 'social justice' initiatives designed for virtue more than substance - is even remotely similar to the Republican party destroying a 250 year old Liberal Democracy so they can institute white nationalism via the Judiciary and pass tax cuts for the wealthy. They aren't close.

But hey, if you can point to the Democrats and their attempts to overthrow an election, point to a time when their states sued the government to prevent free healthcare funding for their citizens leading to untold harm to thousands, or manufactured distrust about COVID leading to the unnecessary deaths of a few hundred thousand people, I might be inclined to agree with you.

Don't know why you're saying this in reference to me, as I'm not acting like those are similar and don't disagree with anything you just claimed, nor can point to any of the things you asked me to because they don't exist.

Which, like I said, is still not true.  And not that hard to be precise if that's what you're wanting to say.

8 of 14 current schools are east coast time, which would qualify as most :D

I'm not sure three out of 14 school being located within 400 miles of the coast qualifies as ""mostly East-coast".

Barely half the conference (currently) is even in the Eastern Time Zone.

But, hey, you're only representing an institution of higher-learning.

Pretty sure they're referencing the time zone.

This is it. This is the line. Rs have been able to do whatever they want because Ds attempt to work for the betterment of everyone with their policies when its been clear for the past 15-20 years that Rs only care about staying in power.

This is a gross oversimplification that is way, way, way too generous to the Democrats, who aren't equally as corrupted and self-serving as the right wing leaders, but are still plenty poisonous in their own regards.

Pretty certain you haven’t heard anything from “out of the B1G” in this entire thread, this whole thread has been rumors from outside sources - outside of the addition of USC/UCLA.

My bad for not distinguishing what others have said about Rutgers. Or Nebraska in years past. Or the fact that Nebraska had to issue a statement of commitment to the conference in 2020 because they were going to kick us out if we had played.

    Does that suffice?

I'd like any links regarding actual rumors from actual sources about kicking out teams, currently and also in 2020 regarding Nebraska.

Wow.  Interesting that he was 'asked' to run and that they would then 'take care of the rest'.

This same system exists to make celebrities as well. It's how Candace Owens and Dave Rubin suddenly became conservative thought leaders - people who have made an industry out of this thing approached them and promised money and success and support and infrastructure if they all the sudden start playing a character.

It all depends on who is running.  If Trump is the Republican, I will vote for almost any Dem.  If Biden is the Dem, I'd look much more seriously at the Republican.  If neither is running, it's a wide open race for me.

I'm in the same boat. If Trump runs and is the nominee, I will vote for whichever Democrat will get the vote.

Outside of that, probably won't vote.

really?   Wow.  I don’t drive there anymore so, I don’t need it now. I typically fly in and take the train downtown then Uber anywhere the train doesn’t work for.

Finding cheap parking anywhere in Chicago is not hard if you're willing to walk even just a few blocks.

The last three months i lived there I had a full-time freelance placement working at Wilson Sporting Goods downtown across the street from the bean and I parked for $8 every day. Never paid more than $10-15 max for an event or a night doing anything unless a friend had cash to burn and was unwilling to walk three blocks.

  14. Yesterday was rough. I was 9 years old when Columbine happened, so mass shootings have been a part of my entire life developmentally.

As someone that lived in Chicago for four years and has a lot of friends in the northern suburbs, yesterday was the first time I've ever had to text friends to make sure they're safe and okay because of a mass shooting. Makes me absolutely queasy.
