I think Dawson is probably on par with Tuioti coaching wise.  I just don't think Dawson is a great recruiter.  It seemed like Tuioti would have us in the top 2-3 for lots of really good targets but couldn't ever get any of them to come here, I bet that was frustrating for him.  He's kind of been a job hopper thus far in his career I think Oregon is probably an ideal spot for him though.

So does Tuioti leaving for Oregon mean he stinks and we're glad to get rid of him aka HB's approach to how view recruits who don't come to Nebraska?  Or, does him going to a much better program means he was a good coach that we correctly identified and are happy to have had on the staff?  SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!!!!!

I think you respect what Tony did here and wish him well on his new roll. I think we will be fine whether we move Coach Dawson or go external. We can say he was a good coach and be flattered someone is poaching our staff. Means we are doing something right lol

We'll see.  TT was arguably our best position coach.

    From Huskers.com:

In Dawson’s first year at Nebraska in 2018, his defensive line featured a pair of All-Big Ten performers and helped key a Blackshirts unit that moved up 27 spots in the national scoring defense rankings from the 2017 season. The line helped Nebraska total 25 sacks, 11 more than the Huskers recorded the previous season.

In addition to the pressure created by the defensive line, the unit also helped the Huskers post the ninth-most pass breakups in school history (58). Carlos Davis led the line with five breakups, the most by a Husker defensive lineman since Ndamukong Suh had nine in 2009. Carlos and his twin brother, Khalil, were both all-conference performers in 2018, as Khalil led the defensive line with 41 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks.

In 2017, Dawson’s defensive line helped UCF post the first perfect season in program history and in the history of the American Athletic Conference when UCF finished 13-0 as the nation’s only undefeated team. The Knights ranked third in the league in scoring defense and fourth in rushing defense. Two of his three starting defensive linemen earned all-conference accolades, including Jamiyus Pittman, a member of the Outland Trophy watch list who was an All-AAC performer for the second straight season.

  4. No kidding. Every other job in America has a job title and that person is responsible for doing their job description, so the boss doesn't have to. If it doesn't work the boss needs to make changes. The boss is making changes. At no point was anyone put in a position to fail by Frost. He was put in a position to succeed and didn't!

The projected starters on the defensive line for 2022 all were recruited by Dawson. At one time he was considered a decent east coast recruiter. Guess we will see once the puzzle is put together.

  6. Dawson is a great DL coach so we already have our guy in house. We will miss the Polynesian connection Tony brings and he seems to be someone everyone likes. I think the move is good for both parties and frees up up for the next chess piece RB/ST. I wish Tony the best, but in terms of the DL I don't see this as a devastating loss.

  7. Greg Knox is the interim HC for the Florida Gators who play on December 23. He has filled the roll of RB coach/ ST coordinator for Dan Mullen at Miss St and at Florida with great success. Napier isn't bringing him back. Perhaps he is on the radar and the reason we have not heard anything? Maybe waiting to announce so they talk about it on tv during the game? Ron Brown then can stay as an analyst and maybe they can keep Busch in his same roll he had this year as well. I know absolutely nothing, so just throwing that out there lol!

Some of what fans may be struggling with is that we sort of do know what they think of the in house guys. They thought so little of them this past season that they still trotted out a guy with a high ankle sprain and a broken jaw instead of a backup. That tells me a few things. They didn’t think those guys were good enough or ready which means they have not developed the room as should be expected. It could also mean they are not very good at identifying talent or, at the least developing it and getting it ready to play.

I also am pretty sure they must know better than I do, but dangit, they have absolutely failed to prove they know what they’re doing. Being skeptical of their ability to identify talent, develop it and use it properly is a pretty fair feeling to have after the last few years.

Your argument is sound and is pretty much the elephant in the room. I wondered the same thing all season. If he was willing to bench Martinez for McCaffery last season, why cant he bench him for Smothers when his jaw was broken? Is Smothers not the guy? If Smothers is the guy why wasn't he ready to take over sooner? Only time will tell on this story, but in my opinion Frost made the proper changes to his staff to make the improvements in the areas in question. Clearly there was an issue with the development behind Martinez or I think Frost would have replaced Martinez when he broke his jaw.  Michigan looked much better this year making similar staff changes. Can it work for us? The only answer is it has to.

I mean isn't that what everyone wanted? No more Adrian?

I am in that camp. I respect the hell out of him, but a mutual parting of ways was necessary. I hope he recovers well and crushes it at K-State. I am not panicked about the portal. I am sure people would complain if they had landed someone already just because that's what people do these days. I think they know what they want and they aren't just going to grab a body to grab one. They are probably hearing some no's and they are probably telling some of these guys no as well. We don't know how they feel about the in house guys. It's fun to speculate, but I trust what they are doing right now and I know for a fact they are a better judge of talent than I am. From what I hear on national sites there are still quarterbacks who have not entered the portal that will do so after their bowl games. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have anything on our end until January since they cant get these kids on campus right now. I will remain patiently optimistic.

Just speaking the truth.  It’s not good or bad.  Just reality.   Unfortunate as it is.   Frost has apparently dumped the offensive mess on his new hires saying essentially - you guys take over - I don’t know what to.   That is the worst take I think I’ve ever heard come from a $4 million dollar a year head football coach.  I have been a disappointed supporter until today.  When I read what MJ said and reports of this Frost hand washing, it was the last straw.  For a guy whose entire life has been football, living and playing around many of the very best players and coaches, how can anyone take anything positive from that.  Why didn’t he resign?

You think Frost feels the same way?  When he's swinging for the fences to keep his job?  Whipple is a smart guy and he knows 5-star "#1 player in the country" talent can make smart coaches look like geniuses.

He also seems like a hard a$$ who ain't putting up with some little pissant's sh!t.  I think Whipple could sell Rattler on the NFL, and a chance to stick it to Oklahoma.

I also don't know about Rattler's misadventures.   Is he a knucklehead or a criminal?

I agree. If Frost or Whipple feel this kid is correct they will bring him in. Who are we to judge? Its not my job on the line. They are taking every step they can to put a good product on the field. They aren't just going to throw s#!t at a wall. The hate has gone over board for Scott. He is in the middle of making wholesale changes to his offensive coaches and is losing his controversial QB who may or may not have lost him games along the way. Having worries about the direction of the program is fine and should be expected after winning three games last year, but the onslaught of doom and gloom reflects much more on you as a person than the football team itself. The truth is none of us know how it will end up, but if they feel Rattler can help us get there I am on board.

Put up the rushing numbers too, that's a big part of being a Nebraska QB. Both of them were benched in their career, both had less than desirable 2021 seasons. One has great character, the other not so much. One was on teams littered with talent, the other wasn't.

The point is why would we get rid of Adrian and go after Rattler when they're not that much different, and Rattler brings a lot more baggage and drama to the party.

Fair, Nebraska ran more with their QB, but if you want to look at rushing yards you have to take all the fumbles he lost into account as well to defend your argument as well as the timing of them.

Well Chip Kelly is headed to Oregon, so I'm not sure Rattler is still trending that way. I know someone reported in this thread yesterday the Mckewon hinted there's another QB out there on Nebraska's radar who is not in the portal yet.

I am guessing JT Daniels will be leaving Georgia with the emergence of Stetson Bennett, but have no clue if he would even look our direction.

LSU message boards are reporting that Brennan has cancelled his visit scheduled for Nebraska this weekend (didn’t know he had one scheduled?) and that Kelly is trying to keep him at LSU.

Do we have any clues on who may be visiting this weekend? I heard the Oklahoma St Offensive lineman will be here, but other than that I haven't seen much. Is it still pretty fluid today?

    And here we go…..

AM didn’t:   punt to the wrong side, heinously miss FG’s snd extras, allow punts to be blocked, and whatever Cam did at the goal line in the Illinois game, not block for himself, call red zone plays…..

I have no problem with AM and respect him as a human, but disregarding him as some of the reasons these games didn't go as planned is naïve. It is fact he was never able to be the closer we needed to close out these games. A key mistake here, an overthrow there, and a crucial turnover when it matters the most. You cant blame it all on coaching. There was a whole slew of outcomes that could have been avoided if we just take care of the ball and put the damn ball in the end zone. It's definitely not all on him, but to not include him is not accurate.

I like him from a teaching/tactical standpoint.   I'm really curious how he will relate and adapt to recruiting.  He's really never had to deal with that, and he will need to go get him some dogs to teach.

For what it's worth, Sipple on his show this morning was glowing in regards to Donovan's recruiting. He wasn't worried in the slightest and says Donovan has an amazing plan that kids will respond to.

False. The HC always takes the fall and always gets the credit. Case in point, Jim Harbaugh finally got it figured out this year. The end.  Now, I know he brought in new coaches after last season, but as a casual observer, I have no idea who or what he did, only that he was a bad coach last year and is now a good coach.

Very accurate. The common day coaching carousel is determined in the micro and not macro economy. Its strictly what have you done for me lately. If Frost wins next year he will win comeback coach of the year. Trev will be celebrated for having the intestinal fortitude to keep him around. All will be forgiven. If he doesn't win, then it just wasn't meant to be and he will be show the door.

Yes that is what I was suggesting yesterday. It was a round trip flight that left Lincoln in the morning and returned in the afternoon.  I would be very happy with Briles.

100% that would be an incredible hire.

I know I have been sharing some interesting items of note on flight tracker including to Baton Rouge and South Bend last week and Fayetteville the past couple days. Here are some interesting locations today...

    1. Departures from Lincoln: Palm Springs and San Jose, CA

    2. Arrivals into Lincoln from: Cincinnatti, Miami, and Colorado Springs.

    Fayetteville? Kendal Briles perhaps?
