  1. Please stop with all the stockholm syndrome stuff. Some of y'all are starting to worry me. Like you might need some serious help or something.
  2. Holy s#!t. There are still people lobbying for Mickey Joseph to be our next head coach? Is this real life? We might need to change the signs to read “dumbest fans”
  3. I like Nebraska football a lot. But we have fallen into the abyss of college football. It’s embarrassing. I used to be proud to be a Nebraska alumn. Used to be proud to be a Nebraska fan. There are VERY few names who will change that this hiring round. We need someone who can electrify this thing if we want to get back to winning and there aren’t many names who can do that. Deion is one of them and probably the most getable. It’s really as simple as that.
  4. TB lives in Oklahoma and his airport is in North Texas near Denton. So, no…definitely no connection there
  5. I know. We’re not good enough for either. And it makes me sad for my once-great program. We’ll take a Leipold, Campbell, O’Brien, Aranda type hire and we’ll be back here in 3-5 years having this same discussion
  6. Hahahah wouldn’t have gone with a Biden gif if your intention was to insult me. That’s amazing
  7. We need to hire Deion Sanders so badly. He’s too good for us though honestly. Sad alumn
  8. I think most recruits would have to google him to figure out who he was.
  9. Well they can’t all take the Alabama job. Dabo might be likely, so that opens up Clemson. Still leaves quite a few of those names without a better option.
  10. Assuming you mean Mickey? So, you're just dismissing the top names out of hand then? I can make a pretty solid argument for why most of them would want to come to Nebraska... Urban - If he wants to get back into coaching, I don't see a better option than Nebraska Rhule - Assuming he wants to coach college this year and not just sit around and count his Panther money, I don't see a better option than Nebraska Deion - Nebraska is a huge upgrade over his current situation and probably no better options (maybe Auburn) Petersen - If he's ready to coach again and be done with broadcasting, I don't see a better option than Nebraska Kiffin - Probably the longest shot. People have talked about the MS salary cap, but I've also seen booster money toward his salary makes that a moot point Fickell - Nebraska is a big upgrade over Cincinnati, assuming his wife would leave OH and blah blah blah Chadwell - Nebraska is a huge upgrade over his current situation Seems to me like we at least have about a 1 in 6 shot of getting someone better than having to settle for Mickey. Or having to hope we can catch lightning in a bottle as you said.
  11. All valid, but at this point, I'll still argue it's the best job available or likely to be available. Unlike last year would have been, we should have the advantage in the market this year which is a pretty big deal.
  12. I know y'all are just messing around, but I do think whoever we end up with will be a pretty good indication of the state of the program. If we're swinging and missing on top candidates and have to settle for some lower tier option (nothing leads me to believe we are at this point), it'll be very concerning. That probably means we aren't as attractive as we all think. Highly unlikely we get a head scratcher Mike Riley type because he was actually our first choice. The market will tell us our worth on this one (assuming money is not a factor, we're offering big budget for assistants, etc. as we've all been told).
  13. Pretty accurate assessment of that list. Respect /fistbumpemoji Edit to add that I'd say most of those names don't move the needle enough to be an upgrade over Mickey.
  14. Okay, sorry. I read your post more as a metaphorical “who would leave their sweet gig that’s better than Mickey.” If you’re narrowing it to what you’re saying…then why?
  15. Love your thoughts. Spot on. Your list of better options is wrong though. None of them moves the needle at all for the position we’re in. Actually, I might even give you Chadwell. He at least brings something different to the table. It’s probably my list, then Chadwell, then Mickey. Then all the other generic names who won’t even come close to moving the needle enough to get us out from under what we’ve become. Sad, but true.
  16. That was a serious question. There’s a big difference between the best we can get and the best option. Fair enough though, I’ll answer. Better possible realistic options (in no particular order)… -Urban -Rhule -Deion -Petersen -Kiffin -Fickell -Someone big off the radar (Lincoln Riley/Brian Kelly type deal) who none of us are thinking of And honestly, after that, I’m with you. Give me Mickey over the generic run of the mill rinse and repeat names I’ve seen thrown around. I will give you this…if it’s not one of the 8 names above, we’re probably having this same conversation in 3-5 years. Does that answer your question?
  17. I don’t know but I’ve never felt like you should hire for either one as a head coach. I don’t want a defensive minded coach…or an offensive minded coach. I just want a winning minded coach
  18. Speaking of master lists…do we have one anywhere? If not, we should. May need a separate thread to sort it out tho
  19. So, just to be clear…you think Mickey is the best we can do (you might be right)…or you think Mickey is the best option (you couldn’t be more wrong)? Not trying to be snarky at all, but there’s a difference.
  20. No doubt, but if we do settle for Mickey, make no mistake, it’s because we missed on a lot of better options. That said, Mickey is still a better option than a lot of the names I’ve seen thrown around. He’s probably somewhere around the bottom half of viable options. Let’s hope we don’t miss on the top half
  21. He wouldn’t even be in the conversation for head coach for 100% of P5 programs, probably 100% of all FBS programs. Let alone a program like Nebraska. Some of these guys are too close to it to be objective.
  22. Conversely, the Lincoln Riley hire at USC was on no one's radar either and that one turned out alright. So, you never know.
  23. You sure there aren't just 4 total people coaching in January? Stop being a petulant child. Or maybe that's just your schtick. Obsession noted, though.
