Is there any real chance he decommits?

So what I’m hearing from you guys…
We already had the talent on defense, but between Busch and White we’ve seen them get closer to their potential.
Offensively, we don’t have the pieces on the field yet but Satt has done a good job with what he has inherited. (One thing I do really like is he recognizes what he has and trying to scheme around that instead of forcing these players into a scheme they can’t execute.)I still think the offense has moved the ball well enough to win games if not for unforced errors.
So the million dollar question is still there; how do they fix the turnovers?
Is that talent? Is that coaching? Is that a mental hurdle that can’t be overcome??

We are starting a third string QB and RB. No WR’s with Betts gone, Washington out, Garcia-Casteneda out… and we are 3-3, barring a fumble from 3rd string RB , likely 4-2.
I think Satterfield gets a pass this season; maybe even praise.
The offense he is calling is limited by the personnel he has available.I agree he isn’t trying to hammer square pegs into round holes like the previous staff, so that’s an improvement.

I don't generally buy the idea of a "must-get" recruit, but he's as close to that as I can think of. Lacy is a dude, and (pending some injury recoveries and decisions) our scholarship RB room next year is:
Gabe Ervin rJr. - officially has an injury history so tough to count on, and the limited on field production hasn't yet matched what we hear about in practice
Emmett Johnson rSo. - Starting to show up, but needs to prove he can be an every down guy
Kwinten Ives - RFr - Time will tell but not ready for a role as a true freshman. Which isn't a knock, but I'm not just going to assume he's ready for a major role in 2024
Obviously guys develop, and we can get someone from the portal. But I don't think we could find anyone as well-rounded as Lacy if we had to replace him in the class this year, and there is a huge opportunity for a guy to come in and play right away. Hopefully that's appealing to him.
He’s definitely the most important recruit of the 24 class. We need a bell cow, we have been seriously lacking. If we hold on to him he will be a star here.

I feel like last year's defense didn't have any particularly glaring spots where we were lacking talent. It was more of an all-around mediocrity, compounded by a few certain coaching issues - like not practicing tackling enough. Better coaching has done wonders for them.
The offense, though, I think does have more of a genuine lack of dudes. The recruiting was fine, but the retention and development were atrocious. The Frost era was a revolving door for WRs in particular, and Betts continued that tradition. Held couldn't develop guys to save his life, and now when it finally looked like we might have some depth, we lose two of our top three. The OL is a bit of both: dudes that ain't that great, and dudes that haven't been developed well. And of course we lost last year's top two QBs, and replacing them has been, ah, a bit of an issue.
So you think it’s more of a wait until we get a couple of Rhules recruiting classes in before we see an improvement?

I don't know if Satterfield is any good or not but the talent on offense just isn't there. Even if there weren't a bunch of injuries at rb and wr this was never going to be a good offense. Even with the transfer portal I think it's going to be rough on that side of the ball for a while.
I get what you are saying about talent. In the offenses defense though, they are moving the ball and putting some drives together. They are constantly in the redzone. Is that a talent thing or is that coaching? Devils advocate..

I get your point...and I have my suspicions about Satt...but undeniably injuries are a major factor this year. Why the injuries? That's another bag of worms.
My question isn’t necessarily an indictment on Satterfield. His play calling is ok, some head scratching plays, but all OCs do. Whats hurting us is ball security and mental errors.
Just want to know if people think these players are beyond being coached up or if Satt is missing something.
The injuries have hurt for sure, but we had the problems I listed before all those guys went down.
To your point… I have seen way more non contact injuries in all levels of football this season. Almost all of them are on artificial turf. Although correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation…

What Tony White has done with the defense is remarkable. What I have found interesting; he’s done it with mostly the same guys the previous staff had.
So is the offense woes more of a coaching thing or is it the players we have?
To some extent I feel like improving an offense is more difficult than a defense, but the mental errors and turnovers are as bad as ever.
So my question is do we need to wait until these current players are gone to see an improvement or is Satterfield missing something fundamental to get this offense moving?- 2

I know myself was never critical of Rhule. I was frustrated that we have a top 100 recruit that is not getting targeted through no fault of his own. It lies 100% at the feet of the current QBs.
If he’s out there getting snaps (before Washington got hurt) it absolutely means the coaches like what they have seen and want him out there. Do the rumorville people really think Rhule and Satterfield are the type of coaches that are going to reward laziness or immaturity with playing time?
I also don’t buy into that he’s not getting targeted because we play slow and not a lot of passing plays are being ran. While that’s true, it’s a symptom of subpar QBs and the coaches don’t trust them to make those plays. Again it falls at the feet of the QBs and their subpar play. He has been open and our QBs suck. Deal with it, embrace it.We better get a qb that is a qb and fast or this rebuild is not going to break ground.

The handwringing over things that went wrong in the Illinois game have really subsided for me at this point. I think we were what, 3.5 point underdogs heading into that (road) game? And we won by 13. Should have been a 16 win if not for the missed field goal. We smashed the spread and made their offense look stupid all night. That's worth a lot.
I think the frustration is that we all know if a couple mistakes made by players not named Ricky Haarberg hadn't happened in the Minnesota game, we're 4-2 right now, looking at absolutely the best season we've had in 6 years.
Thing is...we're still probably looking at the best season in 6 years either way.
I'm currently enjoying the ride and I like what Rhule has been doing in terms of actually coaching the team. Yeah, I wish we had gotten some magical Quinn Ewers or somebody like that out of the portal, but we didn't.
I agree with you. We are having a decent season, which in comparison to the last half decade or so, is GREAT.
My one glass is half empty comment is if our offense wasn’t such a turd, that should have been a 42-7 blowout.
The silver lining is IF they can dial in just a few things on offense they could be pretty proficient.
First time in a long time I can say blackshirts with out any undertones of irony. I’m really excited to see how the rest of the season pans out. GBR!!- 2

I learned that Coleman is in fact open and blocks well.

It felt like we were losing even though we were winning. The upside is this team was able to hold on for the win. Last few teams would have found a way to lose that one.

Exactly what I thought. Would be nice to see some of that in games.
Yeah I think if Coleman actually gets targeted he can make some plays. Like I said before, I really doubt that he is not getting open, we just have subpar qbs that haven’t tried or can’t feed him the ball.

Curious if this is from Sunday
#15 doing a nice job of high pointing a pass around the 33 sec mark. Now go do that in a game young man.

I don’t know all the behind the scenes stuff, but rumors are what they are. I guess at this point I really don’t care if a kid is dotting all his I’s and crossing his t’s, just get the raw talent out there and get him reps. I really doubt the assertion that he hasn’t been open in the games he’s played. Just throw it up to him and let him Randy Moss somebody like Michigan did to Gifford (how embarrassing was that)

I stopped paying any attention to this game after the first quarter but did they just give up on the qb run? Did we even attempt to run the option? What were they trying to do offensively? Honest questions as I lost interest…

Take $10 million in NIL and put it towards getting the best 10 offensive and defensive lineman out there. Screw half a billion in stadium renovations. Start with the lines. Pretty sure Nebraska can get a half way competent o-line coach for pennies if the talent is there to carry the weight. Pun intended.
Thank you. We need to build from the inside out. Then qb1 is the most important position to upgrade.
I’m actually ok with how the d line is looking. we have some true freshman being immediate impact players which is encouraging.- 2

100% agree with you. statistically the ball has to bounce our way eventually though. Can’t rain all the time…maybe??

Did I hear that correctly? Did someone on Fox really say Michigan is on "upset alert?"
I think Michigan wins this pretty comfortably, 38-13. Only way we pull an upset is if Michigan turns it over 5+ times, like the 2009 Iowa State game.
We really have nothing to lose, at home. Gonna be a muggy hot afternoon, maybe it gets to those Michigan boys. Crazier things have happened.

Whoa, now. I hate CU more than most and hope they lose every game and shut the hell up...but there is no need to celebrate a kid being injured.
It’s not like I’m inviting people over for a beer to rewatch the play that put him in the hospital. I do enjoy seeing him eat a big fat humble sammich though.

In other news Shilo Sanders is pissing blood after the Oregon game. This is after he was talking smack to them and said they were small and they were going to run through them. Karma is delicious
