Yes, we have got to get back to the two units feeding off each other and helping each other.

Offense drives and scores in the red zone.  Defense gets a big stop or a turnover.  Offense drives again and scores.  The defense can be more aggressive and take a chance on a blitz every once in a while....rinse and repeat.

    Yup

    Yeah, you're right:

I hadn't remembered the final scores as well as I thought I had. Some of the stats on rushing offense in some of those losses for us are terrible. Maybe I'm switching my answer to "rushing offense."    :)

It’s a hard choice right?? There so many layers to this onion.

At the risk of sounding like a madden quote, if your offense capitalizes on big plays by your defense and your defense makes big plays to give the offense scoring opportunities, you win football games.

Most of the teams NU faces this year have lame offenses and they won't run away from anyone.

I expect a lot of games with scores in the mid to high 20's.

Agreed and for the most part the defense did that last season (post chins) with the exception of the Michigan and Purdue games. At the end of the day I think the defense will show out, the big question mark for everyone should be, will the offense execute and sustain drives that help the defense out, score in the red zone, score off turn overs/ big stops by the defense.

Our defense was the weakest of the three phases of the game through the first four games of last season. There were easily six wins on the schedule with the roster we had - even without Nouili/Prochazka on the offensive line. Chinander pi$$ed the Northwestern & Georgia Southern games down his leg with soft coverage and almost no aggressiveness with blitzing.

When the defense was then handed over to Busch, it looked a lot better just by playing tighter to the line of scrimmage and being a bit more aggressive.

But I still think the defense has some low-hanging fruit to harvest and can elevate its level with White's concepts and the addition of Sherman. It's hard to choose between "run blocking" and "defense" for me, but I'm still taking defense.

This. Also last season was such a mixed bag. As soon as Busch took over the defense was markedly better, but then the offense went completely anemic. Nebraska has had, for the last 2 decades, major issues with both sides of the ball playing well at the same timededhoarse

its uncanny. (See how many times the defense gets a turn over and the offense s#!ts the bed and goes 3 and out; conversely the offense busts a huge explosive scoring drive then the defense gives up one of their own, etc etc.)There are easily 7-8 wins on the schedule if we simply play complimentary football.

Any idea when he's planning to announce?

Usually, when a flood of predictions come in, it's an indication that it's close.

Not sure, but I would guess fairly soon, it’s blowing up all over the inter-webs

At this point this seem to be taking everyone.

Will be very interesting on signing day to see how they got all of those clowns into that tiny car.

Yep, we have plenty of speed and skill. We need line men on both sides of the ball

    No this kid is better

Maybe, but how are the flyweight running backs working out for Nebraska? Id rather have a back that is bigger, more shifty, that runs great routes, and can break tackles and punish the secondary.
This kid has a bunch of tape of him running really fast untouched  through big holes, which is great I guess, but it’s not the reality in college football especially the B1G.
If we get him, great, no doubt. But I think we are sitting really good with the back we already have

  8. Something to ponder… maybe Rhule knows something we don’t about this Oline. Maybe now that the frat boys are gone and there are adults in the room they have really developed the guys we already have in the offseason. Could be why they are going after all these skill players? What do you all think?

  9. My point was that your fan base quit doing it when the team became losers. What happened to the class?

So you don’t understand the difference between us applauding a team that didn’t give up even though there was no hope of winning vs fans not applauding the losing team that has been cocky douche canoes the last decade or so. Got it.

you’re either mentally deficient or the worst troll ever. Prob both.

    Exactly this.

People look at the record and insist that we've been terrible.  The record is what matters most and it has been terrible.

But it's not a simple dichotomy.  A win doesn't mean you're great and a loss doesn't mean you're terrible.  We've done a lot of things well or at least above average.  We've been very competitive in most games.  We just haven't found enough ways to turn those close games into wins.

Prime example: all the people who were insisting that Iowa had dominated us the previous seven years (before last year).  They had absolutely done no such thing.  They had beaten us badly a couple of times but the last four games had all been one-score games that came down to the last few minutes.  Did we have to be that much better of a team to finally get a win against them?  Obviously we weren't.  But we played just enough better to come out ahead.  Nothing amazing.  Just an incremental improvement.

It won't take much to do that in a few more games.  We barely have to be any better than we've been to get into the 6-7 win range.

    All of this ^^

shoot if we do just a couple of the things I mentioned we could very well win 8 games

  11. -Win, lose, or draw I just want this team to break the trend of s#!tting the bed at the worst possible times.
-Stay mentally tough and focused. Meaning don’t take our foot off the throttle if we have the lead. Also have the fortitude to be able to make adjustments to come from behind and pull out a win.

-If we lose, it’s because the other team was better that day and not because we beat ourselves and handed them the game on a silver platter.

    - PLAY ALL FOUR QUARTERS!!

Anything more than that will be icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned for year one

It is right now, which really just means it isn't.

We've been top 10 in recruiting at various parts of the offseason before. You can't compare one class in June to every other class after it finished. Well, I mean I guess you can, but it's a worthless comparison and the class won't finish anywhere near where it is now in the rankings.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. I was getting ahead of myself a bit. What did we take last year like 28? We have a little room to add more but yeah we will likely drop a few spots

This class will probably end up somewhere in the 20-35 range, just like the majority of classes we have had the last 20 years.

I think the high water mark post Callahan is Bo's 2011 class which finished 16th on 247.  That class had 9 4*s out of 21 total.

Yes you’re absolutely right. Time will tell, I don’t think Rhule is done yet…

VERY glad to have Carter Nelson. I wonder if he is done growing?

In comparison to other NFL Tight Ends:
    Gronk: 6' 6''
    Kelse: 6' 5"

    Carter Nelson 6' 4"
    Junior Miller 6' 4"
    Johnny Mitchell Jr. 6' 3"

    Niles Paul 6' 1"

Also wonder if he will be able to keep his 4.5 speed as he bulks up. Niles Paul ran a 4.46 @220 lbs. Carter is currently listed at 205 lbs.

He also will have an adjustment to make coming from 8-man. His current stats come from a very open field and where he towered over secondaries. I have high hopes for his development, however!

I am very excited about this commit, even though TE have not been much of a factor for us in recent years with few exceptions. I really hope Rhule and Satt will utilize the giants they have been bringing here. He’s what 17? He will definitely grow another inch or so. He can also catch in traffic which is huge.

That said I think the most exciting commits for me personally are Kaelin and Lacey. We have had inconsistent accuracy at the QB position pretty much since I’ve been alive (I feel AM comp percentage was padded by the 30 sweep passes for like a yard we threw a game) And Lacey brings a hard nosed shifty back, something we have been lacking for a bit. Time will tell but the future of this offense appears bright.
