If for some reason Joseph was kept on staff and he is now no longer under prosecution, would we all be like….”see, he’s good! Glad we kept him! We waited until it was done in court and we have a great recruiter and coach. One of our own, let’s move on and let him do his job!”

Methinks not.  This went from a public issue that was handled by the courts as far as they could take it. Now it’s out of court and it is only personal now, better or worse.

N did the right thing letting him go.  Even tho it’s turned out this way (no more prosecution), we’ll never know all the facts or even innuendo. Let’s let this fade out and remain personal now. Maybe in 3yrs we may place Joseph in the “those no longer with us” thread if he gets a new job.

I am more interested when Thompson will throw and who our left tackle will be.
I can nearly guarantee the players aren’t thinking of this case anymore. We shouldn’t either.

hope the best for their family.

    Fair enough.

There must be abuser activist groups where people attend to deny the reality of domestic violence and the potential severe outcomes of it.

If there is one then my almost ex brother in law, mother in law and wife started it. They will be ex's in 10 days.

Abuse isn't just physical violence. Cheating, gaslighting and scapegoating are all abusive and finances can be used to abuse as well. (My stbx wife engaged in all of those including the physical violence.)

Here's a thought, what if the rumors of Mickey catching his wife in the act of cheating are true? Does that change anything in your mind? (It does in mine, his reaction becomes understandable but still unacceptable.)

Maybe it’s because I’m from Kansas but I never got the chili & cinnamon roll thing. Never.

Many Nebraska public schools served chili and cinnamon rolls as one of their lunches and it was my personal favorite.

Life tip: NEVER pour the chili over the roll, instead, tear pieces of the roll off and dip them into the chili. You're welcome. :)

It's pretty well spelled out in MJ's contract. I'll post the link again. Check out page 17, points a, b, d, and e.

    https://nebraska.edu/-/media/projects/unca/docs/transparency/contracts/interim-head-football-coach-mickey-joseph-contract-of-employment.pdf

When I click that link it only shows 16 pages. Is this some sort of holiday gag? lol

I think you meant page 14.

It's interesting that the very last item in his contract allows for being fired without cause. (Page 16 btw.)

The problem with the ‘he believed in 2nd chances’ and ‘it was a different time’ is that it disregards the trauma to the victims.

How does an acknowledgment that times were indeed different back then disregard trauma to victims? We can acknowledge how things were different and learn from mistakes others have made while also not minimizing or ignoring the victims. We can talk about the trauma endured by the victims as part of our own learning processes and how to help those traumatized as a separate topic or as part of this one.

    Wait, wait, wait....

First of all, someone correct me if wrong, wasn't it Tyrone Williams, not Washington, who had the gun that TO locked away? Secondly, the way you write this, it sounds like a totally casual thing for a player to go to a coach and ask him to hold on to a freaking handgun for him. Even if we knew no other information, that is suspicious as hell and no responsible adult would simply hold onto a gun for a college player who asks him to.

What have you read that is different than this narrative? Link?

We are both sorta right. Washington and Williams were both involved in incidents involving firearms. My apologies for my somewhat inaccurate memory on this.

    Quote

Riley Washington, a junior wingback, continues to practice with
the Cornhuskers despite having been charged with attempted
second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony in
connection with the Aug. 2 shooting of 22-year-old Jermaine Cole
at a Lincoln convenience store. Cole told Lincoln police that he
and Nebraska undergraduate assistant football coach Abdul
Muhammad were fighting when Washington pulled his gun and fired,
saying, "Your life is gone." On Sept. 11, two days before
Washington pleaded not guilty to both counts, Osborne said, "I
think there is a very, very good chance that Riley didn't do
what he's accused of. I've talked to a lot of people.... I feel
    pretty comfortable about Riley's case."

On Sept. 13, Osborne told reporters, "At the preliminary
hearing, the primary witness against Riley, the individual who
was shot, indicated that Riley was wearing a polo shirt with
three buttons and a hat. Riley was wearing a T-shirt, entirely a
different color, and did not have a hat on. Another witness ...
could not identify Riley as the shooter."

Lacey told SI, "I didn't see Osborne at the preliminary hearing.
We had two witnesses say, 'Riley Washington shot Jermaine Cole.
I saw the gun. I saw him do it.'"

Why has Osborne involved himself so deeply in the Washington
affair? "Because I'm going to have to make a call on Riley, and
I can't wait until the case goes to trial in February," he says.
"If I keep him out, and it turns out he's innocent, he will have
lost a whole year. On the other hand, if I let him play, and
later he's found guilty, that wouldn't be good either. What was
    I supposed to do?"

Tyrone Williams, a senior cornerback, was charged in March 1994
with two felonies--unlawful discharge of a firearm and use of a
    weapon to commit a felony--in connection with a Jan. 30, 1994,
shooting. Police say that Williams fired two shots into a car
occupied by former New York Jet safety Kevin Porter, who was in
town visiting friends. Porter was not hit. After the shooting,
but before Williams was charged, then-Nebraska assistant Kevin
Steele was given Williams's .22 caliber revolver. Then Steele
and Osborne locked the gun in a cabinet.

"When the chief of police and I learned that a gun wanted in
connection with a felony shooting was in Osborne's possession
when it should have been immediately turned over to the police,
then you have evidence that is being withheld," Lacey says.

When his actions came to light, Osborne said, "Frankly, if
anybody had asked, we would have given it to them sooner. No
charges had been filed, so we didn't think anybody was anxious
about it." Osborne has said all along that he notified campus
police about the gun. Last week Osborne conceded in an interview
with SI that prosecutors were probably looking for the gun at
the time he filed it away. "The weapon was missing when we asked
[Williams] to get it. If we hadn't made him give us the gun, the
police might never have gotten it."

No responsible adult would hold onto a gun owned by a college player? If you have no reason to be suspicious of foul play then why not? It's not likely that firearms are allowed in dorms for obvious reasons. I personally once held onto several guns for someone who happened to be moving and wanted them kept safe. In all of the articles I've ever read on this I've never once seen a reason given for why Williams asked Steele to hold onto the gun for him. We simply don't know what reason he gave, although in hindsight his motive is pretty clear.

If campus police did know the whereabouts of the gun then how were Osborne and Steele in the wrong for holding the weapon?

hiding a gun from the cops

From everything I've read on this, Riley Washington asked Osborne to hold a handgun for him and Osborne obliged until he found out the weapon may have been used to commit a murder and then he (Osborne) notified the police. This is completely different than the narrative you are pushing.

Terry Luck in 1975 before Ferragamo took over.  1977 through 1980 with Randy Garcia, Tom Sorley, Jeff Quinn

He went four years, went 38-10 and was in the hunt for the  national championship a couple of times until late in the season.  I'd take that now in a heartbeat.

I'd say Luck was a disappointment, Sorley wasn't NFl material but imo was better than average. Garcia and Quinn I would agree with being average for college quarterbacks.

Thanks for the follow up. :)

Probably one of the grittiest performances by an I-back husker lore.  Everyone knew he was going to get the ball and the option was pretty much off the table.  Right up the gut and he wouldn't be denied.  But the oline deserved a lot of the credit that day too.

Osborne won a lot of games in the 70s with average QBs until Turner Gill showed up.  He took things to a different level and then the same thing happened when Tommie took over.  But still the oline was always stout.

I wouldn't call Vince Ferragamo or Dave Humm average and I wouldn't call Jerry Tagge from the 70/71 National Title teams average either when Osborne was the OC under Devaney.

  10. Digital Combat Sim. If you like fighter aircraft this is the game to play.

This is a B-17 raid I created in the mission editor that has 4 groups of bombers with 3 combat boxes per group.

The game has fighter jets also, in fact it has far more jets that it does warbirds. F-86, MiG-15, F-5E, MiG-19, MiG-21, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, MiG-29 and quite a few others are in the game. Some are free mods like the A-4E Skyhawk others are included with the FC3 (Flaming Cliffs 3) module. (Multiple MiG and Sukhoi fighters are in the FC3 module plus the A-10A and F-15C). The game itself is free and has limitless replayability via the mission editor. If there is a con to this game it's that you have to purchase individual aircraft but it's also a pro in that you only need to purchase the aircraft you want to fly. You can also try out any aircraft module, including helicopters for two weeks every 6 months and you can try out as many as you'd like before buying any of them.

More aircraft are in development including the F-4U Corsair, Eurofighter Typhoon, A-7 Corsair, A-6 Intruder, F-4E Phantom II (a first day buy for me since I was a weapons mechanic on the Phantom) among others.

Here's a video of me and a friend flying F-5E's vs 4 MiG-21 Fishbeds. The recording didn't pick up my friends voice so I sound like a crazy man talking to his imaginary friend. ;)

All the good stuff happens fairly early.

Last Video, a close in knife fight resulting in a gun kill.

If anyone wants to try the game I can upload a training mission with three difficulty levels and make a short video on how to tailor it to your needs. :)

I have no idea how I would react and hope I am never placed in that situation.  I have seen some really good people do some really bad things when placed under extreme stress.  Those of you judging should pump the brakes a bit imo.  If everything being reported is true, what he did isn't right but if you have never lived through a similar situation, the reality is you have no idea how you would react.

This sounds like an all too common story for married couples (well, not th ephysical violence part, but that's is far too common as well) that may ultimately end in divorce.

Statistics show that as many as 70% of people in commited relationships will cheat. Sad, but true.
