Congratulations to Fred, but completely BS. Painter had the best player in the country the past 2 years, predicted to win the Big 10, expected to be a 1 seed in big dance….so, he does exactly what was laid out…. Huskers come out of relatively nowhere, finish 3rd, make the dance for the first time in a decade, suffer NO quad 3-4 losses (which may be the most impressive stat), AND I know it has no bearing, but we won head to head! Explain the rationale, other than the Big 10 continues to screw Neb, from a schedule standpoint in most sports and officiating. I know that last sentence is petty, but Fred deserves it outright

Painter took the 436th ranked recruit in the nation and made him the National Player of the Year. Nebraska beat up cream-puffs while Purdue played a f***ing gauntlet in non-conference. The share is perfectly earned by both.

Honestly, I think both programs will throw everything they have at this setting because it doesn't appear we'll have a game tomorrow. (Unless the start time is moved up)

15% chance of rain. I'm. . .pretty sure they'll get it in.

Not sure I understand what we do sometimes with pitching changes. Pitcher allowed 2 hits to get guys on 2nd and 3rd in the 8th, gets to two outs, then we pull him and his replacement immediately gives up 3 runs through something like 4 hits. What was once a comfortable game, is now getting really tight. 8-6 bottom 8th with 2 outs.

Guy got pulled and his replacement gets the last out.

It's not really Brockett's fault Carey ate an inning-ending ground ball for no good freaking reason.

  4. I kind of wanted Sears to go 9, but after another longish inning at the plate thus another long layover for Brett in the bottom of the 8th, coupled with Kyle Froehlich coming off some kind of minor injury and needing some work, I am once again exposed as a moron :nanalama So far, Sears is spinning something for the books. 28 strike outs to 2 walks in 4 starts.

Good game, just wish they had come out ready last night. Come out angry tomorrow, too.

    He's a freshman with a 3.0 era... I like that :)

Personally, my pitcher of the weekend vote would go to Drew Christo.. (I know you didn't say Jalen was the pitcher of the week)

My personal opinion (worth less than a bag of peanuts) is GCU managed to rattle us yesterday and today. That can't happen again so it might be a good thing they did. I think winning 3 at their complex says something. Indiana and Nebraska have played solid competition and have won. Penn State looks good with what they did to Stanford but I also think Stanford is down. They play a 4 game series against davidson next week followed by a midweek game against virginia so we'll know soon enough how good Penn State is. The B1G is lacking in pitching. Might be early arm syndrome but the pitching is way down.

Gotta say my 4 best in B1G:

Indiana 1 (they look like a host team right now)

Nebraska 2 (had the Huskers won one of the tech/OU games they too would look like a host team after winning 3 this weekend)

    Penn State 3

Purdue 4 (Rutgers is interchangeable with them)

Worthley pitched last year. After his rough go last week, a few people on fb/x/etc. were sh***ing all over him saying he sucked last year and should never pitch again, even though he had some spots where he looked like he had a lot of potential that just needed some experience. I know fans overreact (myself included) but the hate was weird.

But yeah I'd give Christo the nod too because the guy was limited due to some kind of injury or something, so they're not cutting him all the way loose it sounds like. He made a case for a weekend spot with Walsh and Clark being a little less effective this series. The Charleston series should tell us a lot.

Finish weekend 3-1, which is huge weekend! Need to get things in the pen figured out, bats were alive !!  Looked like no love lost between these two teams.  Huskers warned Friday, GC warned Sat after their pitcher absolutely went goofy after he got out of jam, teams had to be separated after game last night, and then a lot of stare downs after game today

The thing about Friday though was all Brett Sears was doing was pumping his fist and shouting at his teammates. Didn't really try to show up GCU at all, and the umpire saw fit to lecture him, whereas they were just screaming straight at Nebraska's dugout and players on the field yesterday and today. Kyle Perry finally gave it back to them directly after the final out today, although I would prefer he not do that.

Relief pitching was awful - McConnaughey & Worthley struggled to throw strikes.

LOL. Horn and Olsen did their jobs. McConnaughey came in with the go-ahead runner at third, 2 outs in the 8th and got a groundout, then struck out the first batter in the 9th. The walk was unfortunate but he made a perfectly good pitch to the next batter who wound up getting a weak infield single, which may have rattled him into the wild pitch, who knows. He also struck that batter out shortly after throwing it to the backstop. Now Worthley struggled, yes. Perhaps in the future, Childress goes to somebody like Olsen instead and that inning ends with no runs across.

Maybe fantastic is a little over zealous, but to complain is being pretty nit-picky as they allowed 1 run in the first outing with a guy who was in the pen ( admittedly misused by coaches), a freshman in a leverage situation, and KP who didn’t throw amazing last year. Compared to last year in San Diego, this was fantastic. I understand that the opponent wasn’t SDSU, but if told you going in that we would allow 1 run, I am betting that 99.9 of us would be ok saying fantastic. Again, maybe a slight stretch, but closer to fantastic than solid. One double away, allowed by a freshman from a shut out . Maybe I am just referencing the performance compared to the “expectations “ rather than just simply looking at number of hits.

SDU* :wasted The pitching last year in that San Diego series was abysmal, and SDU ended up 24-25-1, so not that much better than Baylor perhaps  Obviously it's only one game so we'll see, but a good opener beats losin'.

I suspect we would have been playing for a NC - that D with Ganz's leadership on O.    Was T-Mart a true freshman that year?- if so, instead of redshirting him - play him wt the 2009 D.  Either way we missed a great opportunity to match good QBs wt that D.

Yeah Martinez was apparently tearing up the scout team in '09.

Urban said a few years ago that he was never going to take the Nebraska job in 2003. I think it was around the time Frost was hired in 2017 he was talking about the Nebraska job, and he said out loud what a lot of people suspected - nobody wanted to go to a program that would willingly fire a head coach that had just won nine games. It's no accident the guy we ended up hiring (Callahan) wasn't even unemployed when Solich was fired.

I think Urban even said it publicly back in '03.

yes a glorified scrimmage but the revenue generated with that event FAR exceeds those other two events combined...

What's the point here? They shouldn't try to maximize revenue at the other two events even if it won't match the spring game which by default can hold roughly 14x more fans? People are going to show up for the spring game to watch Raiola no matter what time it kicks off. Might as well play it at a time where they can hope to entice a couple thousand people to wander over to Haymarket Park. Baseball is playing Iowa (who has won the series over Nebraska way too many times lately), I'd guess they'd get about 5K under normal circumstances which is pretty good, this timing could bump it up over 6K. Win-win.
