  1. I was complaining just last week that everything was so boring, and I wished something would happen. This was not what I had in mind. I was hoping for a blue chip recruit or something along those lines.
  2. Police reports generally support whatever action the cops choose to take. For example, there could have been a dozen witnesses there that saw the bouncer take aggressive action against Purify but sense the bouncer wasn't arrested the cops would never put the other witnesses in the report. Fine and probation, plus one missed game. Purify will be back for WF.
  3. Yeah, but we have a lot more talent than we did last season and I've got a feeling our fans at the game will be a huge factor. Certainly the trojans will be favored, but this just may be an upset in the making.
  4. Ranking wise, a loss early in the season is traditionally easier to recover from than a loss at the end of the season. But as tough as our schedule is this year it really doesn't matter. Ten teams on our upcoming schedule were bowl eligible. We have too many tripwires to get through. We start with two tough games while most other teams are scheduling cupcakes. Then at the end of the year we have a CCG and a bowl game. But a win against USC will get us a nice bounce. We need Purify for that game.
  5. I hate the way they release only one team a day. I was actually hoping for something a bit higher, top 15 or so. The big question is how our special teams will play. Especially with the new rule changes.
  6. I did not start this thread, I simply replied in a different thread setting the record straight on wether or not my doormen where invloved and if they were drinking while they were working. So infact the record that I did want to and did set straight happened. Someone else took my comment i left in another thread and opened it into a new thread. I will not comment on this incident anymore becuase whatever is said will be twisted and turned into your own story and next thing you know you will be telling everyone you were there when it happened. Bull, it doesn't matter what thread you are posting in, or if you started it. You posted on this BBS in a manner that indicated you had inside information regarding this incident. And then you asked ANY QUESTIONS? And now you weasel out and refuse to answer questions. Put up or shut up.
  7. I agree, for a thread that was supposed to set the record straight we don't seem to have been given much new information. Perhaps Josh didn't witness the actual event, and he is getting much of his information second hand.
  8. Pedey won't have much to do with this. It's Callahan's call. Yes, it's Callahan's call. And I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon. Callahan in a statement to the press said, "I'm very concerned about this current situation. I am still in the process of gathering all the facts. I will determine the appropriate consequences when due process has transpired. Until such time, I will have no further comment regarding the situation." Due Process --That sounds like he's going to let this work through the courts before he has any comments to make.
  9. Her name is Kirsten Johnson, it was listed in the LJS article. His name wasn't mentioned.
  10. I agree, you never win by resisting arrest. In his favor though, it wasn't a violent resisting arrest. He just refused to put his hands together until the cops showed him a can of pepper spray.
  11. Not in a court of law. Police reports are discredited all the time. In fact many cases are outright dropped before trial by the prosecutors because the cops clearly botched it. If Purify is found guilty, then he should pay the price. But let's at least wait until all the facts are in and a complete investigation is finished. But police reports themselves are usually one sided. They are second hand information that supports the position the cops choose to take.
  12. wow, you must have the LPD report? You have already stated in another post that you think Purify deserves to go. Nice way to throw MO under the bus. Let me guess, KSU fan? Just get rid of him and don't worry about anything as pesky as the facts? I wouldn't trust the police report to be accurate. They showed up after the fact and many people that witnessed the event are saying the off duty bouncer started it yet the cuffs were removed once a cop he knew showed up.
  13. One of the newspapers reporting this did include their names. I couldn't find the link again though.
  14. I can't believe the number of people here who are throwing Purify under the bus. Not just throwing MO under the bus, but doing it in a very eager way when the incident occurred with a known troublemaker. This was nothing more than two guys shoving each other around flexing on each other, until the off duty bouncer from the other club attacked Purify. He grabbed MO by the neck in a choke hold, and Purify defended himself. Did he over do it defending himself? Most assuredly. But people are allowed to defend themselves. As far as the female goes, she stuck her nose in where it shouldn't have been, and got accidentally hit, by one or both of the guys. And although Purify initially refused to clasp his hands together so he could be handcuffed, resulting in the resisting arrest charge, he was not involved in some knockout drag out fight with the police. All they did was show him their can of pepper spray and his hands went right together. This is not that big of a deal. A good attorney could probably get most of the charges dismissed. Especially considering the other guy started it by grabbing MO around the throat in a choke hold.
  15. The only thing that's clear at this point is we just don't have all the facts. A poster on another site is saying he saw Purify and the off duty bouncer just shoving each other until the bouncer grabbed MO by the neck, Purify then started punching him. The poster also said the bouncer's girlfriend was hit accidentally when she jumped in-between the two fighting. And when the cops showed up they knew the bouncer personally due to his job so they didn't arrest him. Now I don't know what happened, I wasn't there. But it sure is starting to look like we don't have all the facts yet, and we all know the police report will be one-sided.
  16. To many people are coming out of the woodwork claiming to have witnessed this. But if what most are saying are true, then MO will be most likely be benched for a game or two at the most, end up issuing an apology, and he will be convicted of something less than the charges he was arrested on. MO is certainly not gone for the season and most likely will be back for conference play, or not earlier. The season is still a long way off. Depending on how this plays out we may not even hear about how Callahan disciplines Purify. Callahan likes to keep certain discipline matters confidential.
  17. Check out Rivals free board. They seem to have the most updated info. Several people who claim to have witnessed the entire episode are posting there. Of course, who knows if what they are saying is accurate? It is after all the internet.
  18. Maybe not. Not after tonight.
  19. I admit it. I think Paris Hilton is very hot! Have you ever seen her in a string bikini? Hell, I'd even volunteer to be her cellmate for the 45 days. I wouldn't want her to get lonely.
  20. She probably won't spend much time there though. That jail is notorious for being overcrowded. Most people jailed there actually only serve a fraction of the time that they are sentenced. Many short term non-felons are processed in and out the same day. Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to do 60 days there for her probation violation on her drunk driving charge, and she was release in just 2 or 3 hours. When the judge refused to allow Paris to participate in alternative sentencing he was probably doing her a favor. What's worse? Spending 45 days wearing an ankle monitor doing work release? Or spending a few hours in isolation at Lynwood? At most she spends a few days in jail. LA is just one big cesspool, and they don't even have enough jail space to keep all the violent felons locked up, there's no way Paris does much more than a fraction of the time she was sentenced to.
  21. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,269890,00.html Paris Hilton Sentenced to 45 Days in Jail for Probation Violation Friday, May 04, 2007 LOS ANGELES — A judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in county jail Friday for violating her probation, putting the brakes on the hotel heiress' famous high life. Hilton, who parlayed her name and relentless partying into worldwide notoriety, must go to jail on June 5 and she will not be allowed any work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled after a hearing. The judge ruled that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. "I'm very sorry and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry and I did not do it on purpose at all," she told the judge before he announced the sentence. She was then ordered to report to a women's jail in suburban Lynwood on the set date or face 90 days behind bars. The judge's ruling excluded her from paying to serve time in a jail of her choice, as some are allowed. As a city prosecutor said during closing arguments that Hilton deserved jail time, Hilton's mother Kathy laughed. When the judge ruled, Kathy Hilton, then blurted out: "May I have your autograph?" Hilton was among a series of witnesses who took the stand during the hearing. She testified she believed her license was initially suspended for 30 days and then she was allowed to drive for work purposes during the next 90 days. She said that when an officer who stopped her in January made her sign a document stating her license was suspended, she thought he was mistaken and did not actually look at the document. Also called to the stand was Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz. Hilton and her attorneys characterized Mintz as a liaison betweeen Hilton and her lawyers. Mintz testified that to his knowledge Hilton did not drive during the 30-day period. He said he then advised her that he believed her license was no longer suspended. The judge called Mintz's testimony worthless and expressed disbelief at Hilton's lawyers. "I can't believe that either attorney did not tell her that the suspension had been upheld," the judge said. "She wanted to disregard everything that was said and continue to drive no matter what." Hilton looked forward and didn't speak to news media as she left court. Her mother looked upset. One of her attorneys, Howard Weitzman, said he would appeal. "I'm shocked, I'm surprised and really disheartened in the system that I've worked in for close to 40 years," Weitzman said. He said the sentence was "uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous." "I think she's singled out because of who she is," Weitzman said. Hilton had arrived at the Metropolitan Courthouse 10 minutes late and ignored screams of photographers as she swept in with her attorneys, mother and father Rick Hilton. Wearing a gray jacket and white shirt over black slacks and with a black headband on, she said nothing and appeared serious. The celebrity case brought an unusual scene to the austere courthouse south of downtown in a commercial area. As if at a red carpet event, dozens of photographers and reporters lined up at the rear entrance. Yellow police tape substituted for velvet ropes. Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. Two other traffic stops and failure to enroll in a mandated alcohol education program, are what landed the socialite back in court. On Jan. 15, Hilton was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. Officers informed her that she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging that she was not to drive, according to papers filed in Superior Court. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies stopped Hilton on Feb. 27 and charged her with violating her probation. Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off. Mintz said at the time Hilton wasn't aware her license was suspended. A copy of the document Hilton signed on Jan. 15 was found in the car's glove compartment, court papers say. Hilton was also required to enroll in an alcohol education program by Feb. 12. As of April 17, she had not enrolled, prosecutors said. Hilton, heiress to the Hilton Hotel fortune, first gained notoriety for her hard partying as a teen. She attracted worldwide attention when a sex tape she made with a boyfriend was released on the Internet. She stars in the reality-TV series, "The Simple Life," now in its fifth season, with Nicole Richie. She appeared in the 2005 film, "House of Wax" and recently finished filming "The Hottie and the Nottie." She also is a handbag designer and has a namesake perfume.
  22. It's starting now. Sipple will be the guest.
  23. Thanks for the heads up. The timer is set.
  24. http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2007/0...84988513882.txt No two-quarterback system at Nebraska, but other Big 12 schools have QB battles By STEVEN M. SIPPLE / The Associated Press Tuesday, Apr 17, 2007 - 12:52:03 am CDT Quarterback Sam Keller drops back during the annual Husker Red-White game on April 14, 2007. Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan said that Nebraska will not use a two-quarterback system. Nebraska isn't the only Big 12 team that has a quarterback battle during spring practices. (Michael Paulsen) So, Sam Keller or Joe Ganz? Joe Ganz or Sam Keller? Some people say it’s all a charade, this alleged Nebraska quarterback “competition.” Although skeptics insist Keller clearly is the man, we probably won’t know for sure until about three weeks into preseason camp in August. Husker coach Bill Callahan said Monday he wants to see how well his quarterbacks hold up as pressure mounts in August and they get a few scrimmages under their belts. One thing is for certain: Callahan won’t use a two-quarterback rotation in games. He doesn’t believe in such nonsense (my word, not his). “I’ve seen a lot of people do it and do it effectively,” Callahan said Monday. However, “I’ve always been a one-quarterback guy because of the fact we put so much on our quarterback, and it’s important that they get the majority of the reps in practice. I really like to get our top guy 85 to 90 percent of the reps (during game-week practices), so they’re well-prepared come game day.” That means the Husker backup gets mostly “mental reps” during game weeks. In short, Callahan’s rather complex system dictates a one-quarterback approach, especially considering time constraints in the college game. Throughout the Big 12 Conference, coaches’ level of trust in a rotating-quarterbacks system varies. For instance, Texas’ Mack Brown strongly favors having one quarterback above the fray, perhaps mindful of the headaches that rotating QBs caused him in recent years. Kansas’ Mark Mangino prefers having one guy at the reins, but is open to rotating two. Oklahoma State appears set to rotate two QBs in 2007 — Brown’s opinion be darned. “The old adage of coaches is, if you have two quarterbacks who are playing, then you don’t have a starter . ... Then you’ve got two backups,” Brown said. Another old adage, with a twist: Different strokes for different ’Pokes. The Oklahoma State Cowboys might come to Lincoln in mid-October and try to prevail using both Bobby Reid and Zac Robinson. “I think they’ll both play in every game,” OSU associate head coach Joe DeForest said. “There’s no doubt about it. I think they’ll each have something they can bring to the game, and having them both in games is going to give a lot of people problems.” Reid, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior, rocked Nebraska last season using his arm and legs. He enjoyed a stellar season. However, the 6-3, 205-pound Robinson, a sophomore, “really matured a lot this spring and really took the offense under his belt,” DeForest said. At this point, it’s difficult to say for sure if any other Big 12 teams will rotate quarterbacks in 2007. However, it’s safe to say five teams are set to stick with returning starters: Senior Bret Meyer at Iowa State, sophomore Josh Freeman at Kansas State, junior Chase Daniel at Missouri, junior Stephen McGee at Texas A&M and sophomore Colt McCoy at Texas. Colorado returns a starting quarterback in dual-threat senior Bernard Jackson, but second-year coach Dan Hawkins went through spring drills using mostly redshirt freshman Cody Hawkins (the coach’s son) and junior college transfer Nick Nelson. The younger Hawkins reportedly has the inside track on the starting job. Kansas returns eight-game starter Kerry Meier, but he was pushed throughout the spring by fellow sophomore Todd Reesing, who played in three games last season and led a comeback win against Colorado. Mangino hopes someone emerges as a clear-cut starter in August. “I think that’s the way it’ll play out,” the coach said. “If it doesn’t for some reason, I feel like a lot of teams have proven you can win with rotating quarterbacks. Case in point is Florida.” Ah, the national champion, which threw a Chris Leak-Tim Tebow change-up at defenses. “The good news is, we feel for the first time in a long time — maybe since we’ve been here — that if something would happen to one (of our quarterbacks), we feel like a quality quarterback is going to come into the game,” said Mangino, the fifth-year KU coach. In the Big 12 South, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is shaking things up some (surprise!). His returning starter, Graham Harrell, threw for a mere 4,555 yards and 38 touchdowns last season. But redshirt freshman Taylor Potts was on Harrell’s tail throughout the spring and made a case to take over the job. Oklahoma, meanwhile, faces arguably the most concerning QB conundrum of any team in the league. The Sooners will head into August with three untested players vying for the starting job, and there exists no headliners among the three: redshirt freshman Sam Bradford, true freshman Keith Nichol and junior Joey Halzle. So, August figures to get awfully interesting in Norman, not to mention Lincoln. It appears Nebraska is set to have at least two capable quarterbacks in 2007. But a two-QB rotation? Not as long as Callahan’s in charge.
