  1. except Suh was much more skill then luck and Dareus was luck moreso..

Are you being serious of forget to insert the sarcasm button? So it was skill when Potter batted the ball (not to the left, right, back or down) straight up for Suh to stand under and catch (after he bobbled it)? But it was luck that Dareus made a strong defensive play and stayed home on his position to make a play on the ball (after he bobbled it)? Both made great runs like 300 lb running backs. Both were about the same distance, right around 30 yards. Suh had to shed one tackle from Cody Hawkins with a stiff arm. Dareus not only stiff-armed Gilbert, but shed two more tackles...one with a spin move.

  2. Image I made for the page just screwing around for a few minutes this afternoon...

Nike gloves, lol... you should have found one with Adidas gloves in it. lol goos sh*t though brother.

Also...if you didn't see the laces...you'd swear that was a crystal ear of corn!!!

  3. So as Marcel Dareus picked off that shovel pass and rumbled for the endzone was everyone thinking about Suh's pick against Colorado?!?! Almost IDENTICAL!!!!

(Really just a reason to post the pic of him throwing Cody Hawkins again....)

  4. I agree that as a National Championship game, this wouldn't be good at all, because there would be extremely low interest nationally.

However, if this became a yearly non-conference matchup, I would LOVE it. These teams need to play.

Putting them on the schedule once every decade is enough.

Have it a yearly contest would do nothing for Nebraska other then bragging rights. (No matter how much you beat them or by how many they still wouldn't shutup) Everyone else in the Nation would see it as Nebraska getting a easy win. <_<

I think that some Husker fans are underestimating what the country thinks about Iowa, who has finished pretty well the last decade...and Nebraska the same years:

    2000 - Unranked (Nebraska #8)

    2001 - Unranked (Nebraska #8)

    2002 - #8 (Neb Unranked)

    2003 - #8 (Neb #19)

    2004 - #8 (Neb Unranked)

    2005 - 'Others Receiving Votes' (Neb #24)

2006 - Unranked (Neb 'Receiving Votes')

    2007 - BOTH UNRANKED

    2008 - #20 (Neb 'Receiving votes'

    2009 - #7 (Neb #14)

Also...whether you think the conference or teams are overrated, Iowa has beaten perennial top 20 Penn State the last 6 years. National appeal may be one thing...but it would be a huge non-conference game.

  5. So someone in the group said that Iowa would make it to the game but not Nebraska because Nebraska's offense sucks. So I did a little research for him on the offenses...and defenses...and special teams.

Doesn't look like one is any more dominant than the other (if anything NU gets the edge stats wise). I know you have to play the game and it isn't decided on paper...but the argument that Iowa is just better is an opinion....not fact. All rankings from NCAA.org:

    Defense

    Scoring Defense: Iowa # 9 (15.38 ppg) / Nebraska #1 (10.43 ppg)

    Rushing Defense: Iowa #34 (123.62 ypg) / Nebraska #9 (93.14 ypg)

    Passing Defense: Iowa #4 (152.92 ypg) / Nebraska #18 (178.86 ypg)

    Total Defense: Iowa #10 (276.54 ypg) / Nebraska #7 (272.00 ypg)

    Pass Efficiency: Iowa #3 (89.99 eff) .../ Nebraska #1 (87.28 eff)

Tackles for Loss: Iowa #59 (5.69 per gm) / Nebraska #28 (6.64 per gm)

    Sacks: Iowa #32 (2.38 per gm) / Nebraska #2 (3.14 per gm)

    Special Teams

    Punt Return Averages: Iowa #78 (7.8 ypr) / Nebraska #30 (11.59 ypr)

    Kick Return Averages: Iowa #38 (22.95 ypr) / Nebraska # 20 (24.09 ypr)

    Turnover Margin: Iowa #51 (30 gained - 28 lost = .15 avg) / Nebraska #33 (28 gained - 23 lost = .36 avg)

    Comparing the offenses

    Scoring: Iowa #86 (23.15 ppg) / Nebraska #75 (25.14 ppg)

    Passing: Iowa #55 (222.08 ypg) / Nebraska #101 (175.71 ypg)

    Rushing: Iowa #99 (114.23 ypg) / Nebraska #62 (147.07 ypg)

    Total: Iowa #89 (336.31 ypg) / Nebraska #99 (322.79 ypg)

That's an Iowa guy trying to take it out of Nebraska's hands.... (trying to cover my rear). Believe it or not I couldn't find a very good picture of the trophy (at least that I wanted to spend an overly obsessive amount of time to find).

  7. But... THE games were already played in 1999 and 2000, I believe we won quite easily.

Yeah...you know I hear a lot of Iowa fans talking about 'Living in the past'...this statement doesn't do much to prove them wrong. I don't care what happened 10 years ago. I know where the programs are right now and where they are anticipated to be next year. USC kicked our asses a few years ago...do you not want to see a matchup against them again?!?!

  8. So it is the offseason and I'm pouting. And it was crappy and snowing all day so looking on the internet and listening to the radio there is a lot of talk back and forth amongst Nebraska and Iowa fanbases. I've lived most of my life in Iowa...except the years that I went to school at NU...and some subsequent years after that before moving back to Iowa.

I am a Husker through and through....however I do appreciate and cheer for Iowa whenever they are playing since they are my 'home team'. I have never had the hatred or spite for them that some have.

Anyway after two very impressive bowl games for each team and fan base all we have to look forward to is the start of the 2010 season. Both will be ranked top 20 to end this season (my guess is NU 14 and Iowa 5). And some VERY early preseason rankings have both in the top 10 (or just outside). If both teams could win out the ACTUAL game would happen and the smack talk would be put to rest!!!

So...I made up a facebook group and am trying to spread the word. Come and join if you want and let others know.

2011 National Championship - Nebraska vs Iowa

    Thanks!!!

  9. His quote was...."I think it's a team that has about the best coach that I've been around lately," Schnellenberger said of Bo Pelini. "I think they have some very good players, but I don't think they're overly talented."

"And that's a compliment. It's not to take anything away from them. They play hard, they run hard, they block hard, they tackle hard, and they're a very physical football team."

.... He also said Rusty Smith was as talented as Bernie Kosar, so TTFWIW.

Yeah, I don't think he was slamming NU at all...in fact just about the opposite. They interviewed him on local radio (1620 ESPN) and he actually went as far as to say this defense is every bit as good as the defenses in the early 80's and mid 90's.

  10. I'm not slamming on Cody in any way, but my buddy sent me a text during the game that just cracked me up. I literally LOL'd. He sent "Cody looks like Miles Austin and throws like Jamaal Lord". Hopefully he will get the throwing part down, but damn...talk about looking in the mirror?!?!

  11. If only Niles could come to play every game!!! Of course having a little better QB situation would help. If he keeps his head straight, takes care of that issue of carrying the ball like he's holding a loaf of bread by the twist tie, and really commits he will get some serious attention from NFL scouts. He's not going to be a top round draft pick, but kick returns and big play ability earn you a roster spot.
