  1. Alright, rough night for the Huskers at Ohio State.  Pretty hard to win when the home team gets only 4 fouls per half, and a ton of free throws, but whatever. Let's move on.

Huskers still in a good spot moving forward.

OSU won the boards, had less fouls, and got more free points "free-throws".  Not exactly surprised but honestly that is surprising.

    Fouls-

    Huskers 21 against them

    Ohio State 9 against them

    Free Throws-

    Huskers 7-8

    Ohio State 24-28

    Assists-

    Huskers 16

    Ohio State 13

    Rebounds-

    Huskers 33

    Ohio State 44

Steals - Huskers had the advantage 7-2

3pt shots- Huskers made 2 more than Ohio State

It really came down to foul calls and putting a team at the free throw line, plus rebounds.

People love to say that, but you know you will still care. So will I. So will 97% of people, plus some new fans who thought college football was the weird one all this time and now are interested.

If people say that it's because people are being honest.

Of course I will tune in with excitement to a certain level, depending on the matchups.  Not all post season games or playoff games are equally exciting on paper before kickoff.  I'm all for changes and like being progressive with sports.  But why did it take so long?  If you can do these changes today, you could have done them 25 years ago.  Just like NIL and transfer portal.  So, I don't get enthused to see the news being "Breaking!" and it doesn't move the needle.  They just really slow catching up or they are finding a lot of money in it all.  A lot of money.  Loads of money.  Boat Loads.  It's One or the other.

  3. 2.5 point underdog says it's pretty much a pick'em.  But this is only due to the difficulty of winning games on the road in the Big Ten.  I love this line and the confidence in Nebraska basketball.

Last 4 games for Nebraska -

Won - beat Michigan by 20

Won - beat Penn State by 19

Won - beat Indian by 15  (on the road)

Won - beat Minnesota by 18

Last 4 games for Ohio State (Big Ten record 6-11)

Loss - Lost to Wisconsin by 8

...(coaching change - a Red Flag during season)...

Won - beat Purdue by 4

Loss - Lost to Minnesota by 9 (on the road)

Won - beat Michigan State by 3 (on the road)

I like the Huskers in this game especially as the 2.5pt dog....  we are talking about a few Free Throws..... a bucket here or a bucket there.

I also love how Nebraska is gearing up for post season play and March Madness.  Just another reason to believe in the Huskers.

  4. Over the last 20+ years the game changed from NBA to National Basketball Entertainment and loads of money.

And the highly paid officials/Referees must adhere to the commissioners demands.

It's mafia entertainment with some basketball.  If you know, you know.

  5. First impressions on the year.  4-3 record over 8 or 9 days or so.

Starting pitching is going well for the most part.

There are some bats in the lineup.

Middle relief needs some work to do.

Early season errors are going to happen at the beginning of the season.

Caron is seeing pitches like it's batting practice and he's grooving the ball all over the field.  All hitters love that feeling.

Stone....  That's my guy.  I think big fella is one of those hitters that can just hit a ball hard.  His swing sends balls into the gap, or off of fences.  Or else he might just blast one out of the park.  He is one of those rare power hitters that a seeing-eye single was not for intent, but dammit, the way it comes off the bat - you weren't ready for it, and it's a base hit single the other way.  I have known guys like that.  Just can't wait to see Stone get hot and into a grove.

On the road + On the road vs good teams.

Unfortunately the Huskers don't get the luxury to play the first 10 games at home as if they were at home in warmer weather like Louisiana, Texas, California, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, etc.

I always feel like that is a mental advantage (home to start the year) and disadvantage (away games to start the year).  You can easily get hot playing at home for a few weeks, and settling into roles at home.......than you could opening up on the road.

Huskers - stop starting the year off against teams ranked in the top 50.  All you are doing is setting it up for a lot of strikeouts (both teams I must say) and we've seen it before.  It just doesn't matter other than delaying the start of the year!

I don't care what some nerds are going to say to challenge this thought by using measuring stats for strength of schedule bulls#!t, but I think the Huskers need to schedule the weakest part of the schedule at the beginning of the year.

Go get your pitching right first.  Go get your bats swinging.  Go get your mid-relief pitching set up and your depth and role players ready.

Go beat the weakest teams possible.  Build up your team's confidence.  Get the big ball batters jacking out doubles and homers.  Win some games 23-4 and 17-2......Get out to a 10-0 start.  And then sprinkle in the tougher opponents.  When late April gets here, aint nobody going to give a s#!t who you beat at the beginning of the year......it goes right over their head because you have those extra 10 or 12 wins...... and that wins always bring the eyeballs more than "well, we lost to some great teams early on the road".   Forget that.  Start the year winning against UNL-Kearney and Milwaukee-State........ get your team warmed up for the tougher schedule down the road.

Good move by UCLA.  Though it will be a short term hire.  I think this is Eric’s move towards a college HC position since he kept getting passed over in NFL.  I always thought he would be a great college HC.

Yeah I think so too.  I heard he's got some baggage dealing with player attitudes that rub players off the wrong way.  And if true, I think it's probably because he old school and wants things to go a certain way only (see Belichick, etc).  I agree this could be a door open for HC opportunity in college football.  Will it work?  Maybe?  Maybe not after a few years.  Who knows.  I just don't agree that he was as smart as advertised with the KC Chiefs.  I mean, he wasn't a hot commodity at Carolina Panthers or a different s#!tty NFL team that suddenly got better.  He had success at KC.  That doesn't give an assistant coach the automatic right to be a head coach anyway or everywhere.  So that's my opinion on that.

  7. If you follow the season, one thing for sure.....

THIS team been playing dang, gang, gang, gang, good chuckleshuffle

They playing like they got Mikki Moore, Tyronn Lue, Erick Strickland, Dave Hoppen, Jack Moore, Andre Smith, Eric Piatkowski........  Playing like a team that you know that all of the former greats from the past are getting behind and supportive.

So get behind them.  Huskers Hoops!  GBR!

    GC gets game 3.

Husker  pitching was pretty solid first 2 games.  We got 2 so far.

4 game series you want to split, but hope for 3 w's.

    That's the goal.

Against GC, Florida, LSU, Omaha, whoever.  It doesn't matter.

It's very challenging to win 4 straight on the road in a 4 game series.  I think we will be ok.  One game left in the series.  They want it as badly as we do.  So we will see.....

I already take the Thursday/Friday of the first round off & live in Omaha. I've already said that if they make the tournament & get assigned to Omaha I'm getting tickets.

I usually sit in a bar all day drinking beer & watching hoops, but I'd be willing to miss most of the games to see the Huskers live in the NCAA tournament.

To the bold part...  homie, what about the wings???!  Never forget the wings

But because of the season they having in hoops, this was sooo good and legit. Now THIS... It actually fits.

Man, when Bienemy played at Colorado he was all "Bi's, Tri's, and Thighs"

We all know the type of guy who can absolutely dominate a pickup game because of immense talent and skill. That's Luka. Tenacious with talent and training, but lacking in the illustrious "X" factor of leadership and greatness that makes everyone around him great towards actual wins and team success. Style of game is very different, but style of character isn't much different than a James Harden, Russell Westbrook, etc.

Lacking illustrious X factor of leadership? of greatness that makes everyone around him great towards winning and team success?

Eh, I would love to hear your perspective and for you to elaborate on that.

He is not the volume shooter you think he is.  Luka is not cut from the same cloth of players like Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Westrbook.

Ask any teammate and you will hear how he makes the game easier for them.  He is always the focal point for defenders and often gets doubled teamed.

He just hasn't had a supporting cast of talent and depth around him.  Until now.

How many guys has Mark Cuban put on the roster that have been mid-average or simply average players around him?

Who is the wing defender on the Mavs?  Who is a rim protector Center and puts up 15-25 points with Luka's pick-n-roll?

Who coaches and substitutes, by sitting Luka out the first 5-6 minutes of the 4th quarter and first 6-7 minutes of the 2nd quarter?  (Still the worse coaching decision thought process ever - J. Kidd).  Night after night, game after game.

Well fortunately for me and you and others, the Mavs finally addressed their weaknesses by making good trades.  JP Washington & Daniel Gafford.  And we can now see it all as it should have been.

Washington is a 6-7 wing defender with 7-2 wingspan, and can score on offense (15ppg).  Gafford is a real, big body center that can score on his own, but thrives with Luka.  Gafford is tough and physical and blocks shots, but scores points.  While rookie center Derek Lively can play 25 minutes stress free as backup/starter for now.  He has been thriving as a pick-n-roll finisher and rim protector at 19 yrs old.

Plus K.Irving is totally onboard being the robin to batman (Luka) and can light the scoreboard up.  They are building chemistry and becoming the best duo in the league.

As to your point, Luka just hasn't had players around him.

Dwight Powell at Center ??  He is the easiest defender to drive past on in the league for the last 5 years.  That's his center.

Hardaway Jr? Maxi Kleber?  Dorian Finney-Smith?  Reggie Bullock?  Dinwiddie? Christian Wood?  JaVale McGee? Porzingis? Josh Green?  Kemba Walker?  Hardy?

There have been dozens of them, names of guys and all nice players.  Good players at times.  But just roster budget guys.

These  and not players a championship owner would put together.  See LA Lakers, Golden State, Boston, Denver, Phoenix.

Since Dallas won a championship, it has been the same thing.  Let great guys go, blow up the chemistry, make money and be like  "here is our budget, these are some nice players, but we need to try and win and keep fans in the seats".

Luka just wants to win man.  Score 40 or dish out 20 assist, he doesn't care.

But trust me, this trade for JP Washington and Gafford is going to make a difference.  Just wait and you will see.  Luka has a supporting cast that is pretty strong for once.

I feel like these "Breaking salary cap" stories have been happening a lot the past decade.

Almost like it's not a new story, but a simple contingent from the previous year(s).

    85-70! First road W...thank goodness

Thank you!  Especially for being on point!

I didn't see the game.  I read through 3 pages and 35 posts, one at a time.

As I read and filtered through the debri, it felt as if the Huskerboard fans got kinda happy being up by 20 points,  then felt robbed, stabbed in the back, kicked in the nuts, ........and Huskers were going to lose, lose, lose, refs, lose.:ahhhhhhhh

But the Huskers won by 15 ???  :dunno

And won on the road chuckleshuffle

One thing I noticed the past 2 decades is that Husker fans hate losing more than they like winning.  And ANYTHING that is a close game at one point or another isn't enjoyable to see.  Win big or don't win at all.  This is a great example of that IMHO.

GBR and very happy the Huskers won, especially a road game.  Because this team has been staying the course all year.

Nearly 20 wins for the season as they stay in the pocket, doing what they do, and keep  building momentum.  Been a great season!

Now we just need to work on Husker fans enjoying a game and not sitting on pins and needles because the mindset is always - "We Have To Win This Game!" (every game)

Is that a place to record music,  like RHCP,  Nirvana and the Pixies ??!

I can't remember where I saw the comparison but if you compare the numbers between Luka and Lebron for either first 5 seasons or at age 23, Luka was a head in all categories, or at least in at least 95% of the comps. Lebron may have been a head in blocks, and there wasn't much else. Luka is under appreciated for how great he is. Especially when looking at his numbers to some of the 'Mt. Rushmore' greats.

Ironically, Lebron has been a huge Luka fan and supporter since Day 1.  That's tremendous recognition over the years.  Even if not needed.

  17. He's right.  Rhule is right.

We've got enough big game matchups playing the new Big Ten schedule.

You should put a non-conf schedule out that will be favorable, so you can build some depth and confidence (winning).

And then you can be ready for those 9 conf games, plus post season games.

Back in the day, we all wanted more tougher competition to start the season.  And something that was especially exciting for the home folks.

That ship has sailed.  Probably years ago.

I am all for an easier non-conf "pre-season" schedule.  It is what it is.

  18. I saw that article and heard the media points, but I don't think there was anything wrong with SF taking the ball first.

At the end of the day, KC Chris Jones made a HUGE play on defense, and Patrick Mahomes converted 3rd and 4th downs.  The Chiefs had adversity too and won the game.   It was a great ending, even if I was slightly pulling for the 49ers.

Playmakers make the biggest plays.  And that is what happened.

Hats off to Pat Mahomes and Chris Jones.

The 49ers also have guys that can make big plays too.  And SF had their chances, right in front of them.

I love it when the best plays are made that decide the game.  Kickoff or play defense doesn't change anything IMHO.
