  1. People aren't upset simply because we lost. If we had played well and simply lost to a better team it would be one thing, it's how we lost that people are upset about. Our defense looked like a JV squad taking on the varsity. They were totally unprepared and there were no coaching adjustments made during the game on the defensive side of the ball.
  2. That's funny... did Cory McKeon then come through and wiff too, or was he too busy trying to sign something yards away from you that didn't need to be signed?
  3. Your first question is something I've never understood either. It's just another example of how we never bust out of our mold. I know we have "sets" but how hard is it for Bill to say "this set is in, but reciever "A" stay out... Mo stay in". Just another example of us not adjusting to the situation.
  4. I am assuming a new depth chart will be out tomorrow.... anyone think we'll see any changes? 1 - Purify will start 2 - I am hopeful we'll see Dillard or Brandenburg on the 1st squad, but with the history of this staff, I doubt it will change.
  5. 1. Because he has to earn his starting spot back on the team after his off-field problems. 2. Maybe he is being coached in the technique area wrong??? 3. This is a huge concern of mine as well because the guy is a beast!!! 4. One year one team doesn't constitute a captain spot. 5. Get used to him....... Agree to a point with Keller... but shouldn't a captain be the guy who is a team leader. I am not saying this has to be a "star"... I thought Rigoni last year was a perfect captain. But you can tell Keller is a leader both on and off the field, look at all the time he put in with Purify in the summer and from what I can see he is a great leader on the field as well. I can see what your saying because the QB is your field general and the ultimate leader of your team for the most part. I just don't think he has the time in there. Agreed... I would assume this is the reason. However, he was there all last year and definatly put his time in on the scout team.

  7. I've considered this, but I also thought he probably put on 25 pounds of muscle... and I would assume he would be stronger and quicker.... possibly it's some injury we never heard about that is still holding him back.
  8. To expand on question 5, if the rush defense contiues to be a drastic problem against lower caliber teams... any shot we'll see him gone mid-season?
  9. Why? Talent scouts are wrong all the time, just liike recruiting analysts..........talking heads. There is a big difference between recruiting analysts and pro scouts. Pro scouts are employeed by NFL teams that help make decisions that can make or break a draft. They analyze talent on totally different levels.... it's not like teams just visit rivals and recruit kids without evaluating the player themselves.
  10. I think you guys are missing the point... this isn't Rob's opinion... this was information he was passing on from and NFL talent scout. And I haven't seen anyone argue with that point that they don't produce NFL defensive players left and right???? Miami was a great defense that produced NFL players year in and year out... the scout is saying USC has talent but their talent is even better because of their preperation and in game coaching.
  11. I don't blame Billy C for the offense... I think it is doing great. My thing is he is the head coach and it at times it seems like we have two head coaches... Bill takes care of the offense and Coz the defense. Bill needs to get more involved in the defense and make sure they are progressing the way they need to. He has an offensive coordinator for a reason, sometimes I think he gets too involved in the offense and forgets that he isn't the offensive coordinator and that he is the head coach... he needs to have involvement in the defense as well.
  12. If you watched you would have heard Dr. Rob say that he talked to I believe Eric Stokes who he said is a college talent scout for the Seahawks. He stated that while USC has a great college defense, you don't see many of them become great NFL players, really the last one I can think of off the top of my head it Troy Polamalu of the Steelers. Anyways back to the point, Dr. Rob made it sound like that Stokes said that the talent gap isn't the big between our defenses... but simply USC is better prepared and are better coached then our kids. It's one thing for us to say things like this, but when it's coming from a pro scout it has to hold some merrit.
  13. Spot on...well said. I don't think Coz is a great coach but he had nothing to do with Sat nights game. How did he not have anything to do with the game... last I checke he is the defensive coordinator and yes he can't make the plays, but I am pretty sure it is his job to make sure our guys know how to tackle and we did a poor job of that. So yes he had plenty to do with what happened.
  14. I'd love to see what people have for answers to these questions... 1) Why is Purify not starting? 2) How has Barry Turner gotten worse every year? 3) Why does Ricky Thenarse not see the field beside special teams? 4) How is Sam Keller not a captain? 5) How many days until Coz is packing his bags?
  15. McKeon may be the next Andrew Shanle... constantly in decent position, but no football knowledge to make a play on the ball.
  16. It's wishful thinking, but Pelini would never come back... that bridge was burned long ago
  17. Mutliple players from Fan Day experiences on a helmet and football and a Blackshirts flag with multiple defensive players... Keys Ones: Football with all the National Title Quarterbacks - Tommie Frazier, Scott Frost, Jerry Tagge Johnny Rodgers Football Ahman Green on one of my Husker checks (sat two rows behing him at the 2006 CWS) Three Tom Osborne Photos Adam Carriker poster Zac Taylor/Sam Keller football
  18. Isn't it odd that linebackers is also the position the Coz coaches?
  19. I've been preaching this for a couple of seasons... if we have these great recruits, how are they not seeing the field. We are constanly going to struggle on defense if guys don't see the field until their junior year. By that time they finally get used to being on the field as a junior and then we see thier real talent for one year as a senior.
  20. You're totally right - Arizona State and Texas, 1996 Are you being sarcastic???? Because Arizona State was a National Title contender in 1996, they went 11-0 in the regular season that year and lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl 20-17. And Texas that year did lose four regular season games but they were to #6 Notre Dame, #13 Virgina Tech, #25 Oklahoma, and #8 Colorado, they won the South and the Big 12... and they played #7 Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. Do a little research before you run your mouth. Oregon State and UCLA are totally different. UCLA lost at Washington and later in the year they dropped four straight to Oregon, Notre Dame, Washington State and California. Plus a loss to a very down Florida State team in the Emerald Bowl. As for Oregon State they did lose to a couple good teams, but those loses were blown outs by the likes of Boise State (42-14) and California (41-13), and also they lost to Washington State and UCLA.
  21. I've stood behing this coaching staff since day one, but after last maybe I am seeing the light. I still believe in Callahan as an offensive coordinator, but he has to get rid of Coz. The way we played last night hurt more then Texas Tech
  22. I understand that it was going to take a few years to implement the new offense and I truely belive it is coming around. USC new we were going to throw the ball last night and we kept moving the chains for the most part. My question is we are people using the "rebuilding" excuse on defense? Last I checked we've run the 4-3 since Osborne was here, so it's not like we were reinventing the wheel when Coz and crew showed up. Sure Coach E teaches some different techniqies, but all in all it's the same style of defense. Stop using the rebuilding excuse for the defense, simply admit that our front seven is not what a lot thought it would be. Or maybe it's finally showing that last years squad was so good up front that they made up for a lot of Coz's bonehead schemes and with this year's average group they can't make up for whatever the hell he is doing.
  23. I agree with you that it's definatly nice not to be Notre Dame, but at the same time how long will we be "closing the gap". I went into last nights game expecting us to have a shot and knew USC was better. And if we played well but got beat by a better team I could live with that, but our defense was down right ugly and how many times does that have to happen before we stop saying we're rebuilding??? It's one thing to take years to rebuild an offense, but a defense it's not like our defense went into an over haul like the offense did.... there is no excuse for what happened, period!
  24. Why we couldn't go deep... A - USC plays a lot of cover 2 which makes it very tough to go deep, they give up a lot of short stuff... but contain the deep ball. B - If you are going to beat a cover 2 deep you have to have a very strong pass blocking scheme because it takes awhile... and I while our pass protection was good I thought... it was not good enough to protect that long
  25. I have a hard time refering to them as a dynasty because of seasons like last year where they lost to Oregon State and UCLA... to be a dynasty you must be unstoppable for quite a few years and if you do lose, it better be to a team like LSU this year or Oklahoma, not a middle of the pack Pac 10 school
