  1. Looking at the film on Shapen.
More fluid and technically sound than what we have.

    Accuracy and touch look good.
Doesn’t show great arm strength or velocity.

    Some running ability.

Has a lot of time in pocket and receivers running free. Would he have that here?
Would like to know more about his ball security, decisions under pressure, and roll out busted plays proficiency.

He’s better than what we have so definitely interested.

Baylor OC Grimes was let go. We can find a role for him here. I sort of liked what Grimes did with the Baylor offense.

It is sad when you realize that over the span of two decades we went from kings of the big 12 to doormats of the big ten. This happens when we learn to settle for mediocre and give piss poor performance excuses. It is the QB, no it is the refs, no it is the injuries, no it is the coaches first year here, no it is that previous coach left cupboard empty, no it is the OC, no it is the special teams, no it is recruiting, no it’s adidas. No matter what, it is always something we can point at to excuse the fact that we have become a get rich scheme for incompetent coaches who give nice speeches but never do anything to fix the issues. For a decade now, we have had the worst special teams play, worst penalty record, worst turnover record, yet every coach we hired have not been able to fix these glaring issues. Instead, we give excuses, wait for another year full of hope, only to be back here again watching so many other teams with worst talent than us get bowl eligible and we end our season listening to more BS of how next year things will be better. If that is not a football equivalent of a hell loop, I don’t know what is.

Yep there is a lot of stuff that I and many other fans have seen for years. We need accountability, development, identity. And I’ll call out our NIL. It should be one of the best in CFB and I haven’t seen squat.

The worst thing about this entire episode is constantly seeing OSU fans gloat...and now the constant advertising for their rivalry game this week.

I'm sick and tired of both programs.

Yep I’m sick and tired of both programs. Michigan can beat OSU. I don’t think McCord is the dynamic QB OSU has had in past. I would love to then see Oregon or Washington beat Michigan in the playoff with Harbaugh back. The new teams coming in to the conference can then say what’s the big deal, haha.

Agree. I don’t see any coaches like this either. Rhule is fine as the sober voice at the top but I see no coaches getting after it. It’s the same crap week in, week out.

I'm with you on starting over.  It is not as though we were successful with whatever we were trying.  Or that guys are completely invested (multiple years) in this scheme, language, techniques etc....We had issues with the basics imo. Blocking, passing, catching, route running etc....Not some super fancy techniques that they were being taught.

Unsure if Peetz would leave.  He is now the passing game coordinator.  Stafford has been injured and Kupp is questionable again.  Maybe he looks and sees that LA might take a step back and takes the offer again.  Solid resume.

I am an apologist for Korn at Liberty so I am biased.  I like Chadwell's scheme.  BUT his is also predicated on a true dual threat QB who can run AND pass.  Without that "guy" it'll have issues.  And right now NU doesn't have that guy.  Look at Paul Chryst (analyst at Texas). Do you look at a guy like Tyler Roehl at NDSU or Mike Shanahan at JMU....I am unsure if we are going to get a P5 OC to come here if Satt is let go.  Save some money and put that into White, maybe new assistants etc...I am a huge homer fan, but my red colored glasses have come off.  I do not think that we are destination for many established OC's (with potential HC aspirations) so FCS or G5 might be the route we have to go.  If that is what Rhule decides.  In reality, watching a lot of college football, coaching is a lot of it, but we don't pass the eye ball test compared to a lot of what I am watching on tv...We are lacking Jimmy and Joes as well.  BUT better coaching will result in at least better development.  Another thought on Rhule, he came from Temple (AAC) and Baylor (Big 12) and neither conference was known for its physicality, but more for its "basketball on grass" style of play.  Track star speed is great in those two conferences, but the B1G is a brutal, physical league.  A burner is great at receiver to take the top off the D, but we need a QB who is a threat to get to him.  Maybe what has worked personnel wise it those previous stops won't work at NU or in the B1G.  Season 1, hoping he questions some of his previous thoughts.  Can't get bogged down with the "it's worked everywhere else, so it'll work here mentality".....

On to the off season and wait for the portal to open and recruit signings....

We agree on a lot and I could have written a lot of what you did. I have brought up Paul Chryst. If you

want to keep Satt give Chryst QB coaching duties and you at least have another credible voice on the offensive side of the ball. I am a firm believer not one skill player is going to save this offense. We have seen that trick at places like Purdue and Indiana and it never goes far. It has to start with the OL and the reason I have wanted Raiola out is because I don’t see our OL control games we should win easily. Every game is a struggle. Our RB’s never get going, our QB’s are not well protected. I thought the RB’s with all the injuries made the best of it. Our WRs are young so jury still out. But this OL scares no one. OK we improved in penalty yards? How could you not improve from such a hole?  Who did we push around? Who did we wear down in the second half?  It should have been teams like MSU, Maryland, Minny.  7-8 wins was very achievable and so that is why there should be consequences. The staff is not cutting it on the offensive side. Need players and coaching both.

Rhule needs to do some analyzing in the off season as it relates to staff, scheme and talent.  IF he wants to throw body blows in the 4th, and rush for 75 yards, that OC isn't on staff.  And they might want to get a second opinion on QB picks...

When I look at the various things we can do, I wouldn’t mind starting over on offense entirely. We need superior coaches for OC, OL, QB, WR, TE…it just goes on an on. But who is that hire and what others can he bring with him? Do you look at Peetz again?

  7. I miss Pelini’s passion but when it started going bad he just couldn’t be the spokesperson for Nebraska. Rhule is a good spokesperson and has some passion. But I have yet to see it in the other coaches. Where is my dawg recruiter or my motivator position coach?  I don’t see it, especially on offense. I want coaches that coach toughness physically and mentally.

I had predicted 7-5 at the beginning of the season.  I figured better coaching would allow us to win those 1 score games.  Well, the better coaching wasn't there.  We had 5 close games - one would have thought that Neb would have found a way to win at least three of those or even 2 to get to 7-5.   So, my confidence in Rhule has been shaken.  He seems to be a good motivator- practice coach but we saw no advancement in the close games.

I also learned:   Thank goodness for Tony White.  Without him and what his defensive coaches did with our D, we could have easily have been 2-10   This is why Rhule needs wholesale changes on the O side of the team.  Forget the injuries which were many, the O still did not grow this year.

    :yeah
Agree with a lot of this. I expected the coaching to be better and get us some close wins. What made it more disappointing was the teams we faced were not as good as I thought they would be and we still lost. The defense was the brighter spot and you can see they have improved. The offense needs wholesale changes both with coaches and players. We need a road grader OL coach and players that create an offensive identity and make sure the games we are to win are never in doubt. If we don’t have an OL we can lean on and wear other teams down we will continue to struggle with the game on the line with shaky kicker leg and shaky QB arm.

  9. We all have had the same lesson for years now. Screw what did learn. How about what needs to happen.

This whole way of losing again sucks but it brings complete clarity to the situation. This has to be rock bottom. I’m not saying it is rock bottom but it has to be for the coaches and players moving forward. We must demand accountability and thus we have to make big changes. This was an easy schedule and we pissed several games down our leg. We won’t even have a chance in future to urinate on ourselves to lose the game because Oregon and USC will be up by 24 in the third qtr.

Use NIL. Get a stud QB, Tackle, and Punt Returner thru NIL.
Pull a Deion on offense. If you’re not good then be shown the door. No coach or position is safe. I’d let Raiola go, the OL was not in sync and continues to be a liability.  I’d target a OL coach that can be a pass/run game coordinator to be in sync with the OC, if you keep Satt.
    Get a kicker.
    Get a stud edge rusher.

#25 in recruiting is not going to cut it. Must do better. Playing time is now for most positions.

This is not rock bottom. Rhule will not make coaching changes. Like his predecessors, he believes we are close to turning the corner. The reality is that we are so far from that corner, it might as well be ions away. Not a hyperbole. The West this year has been the worst division in power 5 football and we only mustered 3 wins against teams that are not so good. Even northwestern found a way to become bowl eligible. Next year will be worst. We will be lucky if we get to 4 wins.

I watch a lot of college football.  We are terrible. The defense is alright but the offense could be the worst in power 5.  If Rhule can’t see this we are in huge trouble. The PC talk is we are getting better but the schedule only gets worse. If we do not get some difference makers on both sides of the ball we are done. Why we can’t make FGs or return a punt is inexcusable. Pay me and I could get better results.

I am for real!  The greatest fans in college football is no more.  We complain like none other.

I actually think Nebraska nice needs to go. Sure we need good sportsmanship but it has morphed into this soft mentality and playing for participation .500 seasons. I live in So Cal and there are real dudes playing HS football. None of them even know what a Nebraska is.

  12. I’m tired of the s#!t accountability, lots of coaches are axed the day after a couple losses like this. We have 5 inexcusable losses. Rhule is safe but he has to flip this roster and coaching staff. DO NOT be fooled by 5 wins ahead of schedule talk. We all saw the games. We flat out suck.  All the teams coming from the PAC 12 will absolutely murder us. This better be rock bottom.

  13. Gotta flip a lot of the roster and get better coaches. This is rock bottom and better wake Rhule the hell up. He better demand accountability and if he doesn’t he’ll be gone in year 3.  This is it boys. I would have liked to bowl. But clarity could not be clearly. We had a soft schedule and played like s#!t the entire year. Iowa has a losing record in most other power 5 conferences.

You know what, get this s#!t out of here. Our players had a lot of chances and we dropped the ball and missed the kicks and threw the INT and gave up the big run. I don’t think Satt is great but s#!t these players deserve some criticism. We are soft and play poorly in key situations.
