  1. so how does everyone think the remaining three games will play out? i think the huskers will get rolled by kansas this week, then step up on senior day and beat k-state, and then really not show up the day after thanksgiving and get throttled by CU. final record, 5-7. after the loss to colorado, callahan gets his pink slip and then within two days osborne will reveal the next head coach.

  2. Hey huskers, I am not trying to be a buzzkill here but...

It is amazing how much confidence the "moral" victory against the Longhorns has given some of you

I myself was confident that NU would play with Texas, and before the game had just as much confidence as

some Husker fans that this would happen. I was rooting for NU to win with everything I had, but it just

    didnt happen...

After the NU game, I watched as the Jayhawks stuffed the highly esteemed aTm rushing offense. However I was not impressed with our kicker. Overall, though I was happy with the win in a hostile environment. The aTm game has motivated this whole team and given us momentum. If we held McGee and Lane, we can surely hold Lucky and Castille

    However....

I think NU will give KU a game in Lawrence because it seems that NU plays better on the road this year.

If the game were in Lincoln I might be more confident. It seems that Nebraska now plays with reckless abandon something we havent seen the whole season..

Unlike Bill, Mark Mangino (you will see him on the KU sideline he will be the really, really fat guy with a bucket of KFC instead of a playbook) likes to keep the offense simple. Our team is well coached and plays

with a passion for the game. NU will surely play like a wounded animal and will fight with everything they have I believe.

Mangino has Cally's number and we will be 9-0 after this game, but who knows? Maybe Nebraska can knock off its first Top 10 team with a win against Kansas...never thought that I would say that. We are ready for you in Lawrence, it is our homecoming game and it has been a long time coming. We welcome all Husker fans to come tailgate with us and lets have a great Big 12 game!

    GO JAYHAWKS! ROCK CHOCK :box

while not a fan of the jayhawks, i can imagine the incredible enthusiasm that must be in lawrence and the rest of kansas during this stretch run. when was the last time kansas was undefeated in football during november? however, i do not sure your opinion that the game will be close. this week is homecoming at kansas and the team and kansas fans will be so jacked up that they will likely steamroll us even before the first half is over. enjoy it now because even if kansas continues to have some success in football in the next couple of years it will never seem as exciting as this season.

  3. Throw our record out the window. We play like we did today, we hang with ANYBODY.

Hanging and beating are completely different. You could argue we hung in with just about every team this year. When crunch time hits...this staff cannot make the necessary changes to allow us to win rather then hang.

i don't think you could argue that we hung in with just about every team this year. in fact, three of the 5 teams we lost to this each other the game was essentially over by half time.

  5. ...but I don't see any Longhorn fans telling their players they suck and take the Longhorn off your helmets...

why would they. they have a team that makes the correct adjustments and wins the game.

  6. I'm not happy either but you have to recognize the good effort when the past few weeks it has not been there.

we have sunk to the level of giving A's for effort? isn't that what they give to the pop-bottle glasses wearing kid that sits on the end of his little league bench and gets hit on the head with a pop fly?

  7. Even though today was a loss, its one of the best games the Huskers have played all year..... and against a quality opponent.

quality opponent? these guys got rolled by KSU at home.

  8. Isn't the definition of mediocrity being satisfied with "barely" losing? Maybe I'm a bad fan but I will not be happy with a 4-5 season!

exactly. all this sunshine and lollipops crap that we played a good game and keep our chins up is the mating call of the loser. KSU rolled these guys a couple of weeks ago. they aren't that good.

  9. heck, he will have the cheerleaders and the volleyball team in the lineup by the time the 4th qtr comes around, which should be fair since McKeon will probably change into his volleyball uniform at the half.

Well then, the horns are screwed cuz I heard we're sending our girl's VB team.

i guess they can lose to texas just as easily as the football team can.

Nebraska's climate breeds the sturdiest of physical manhood. Nebraska industries, practically all carried on in the open air, build up that physical manhood to a remarkable degree. Why should not our state be supreme in every phase of athletic competition? Give us the equipment, the coaches and the proper spirit, and success is a foregone conclusion.

I thought this was an interesting read.

i like the sailor hat on the guy at the end of the article.

if you like this nostalgic thing, click on the following link and then go to page 2 of the article. there is a quote by one of the great american writers (and native daughter), willa cather, regarding nebraska football.

  12. I can't vouch for Sam, but I will say that Corey McKeon is somewhat notorious around town.

I am not going to go into specifics, suffice to say that the dude walks around with his polo-shirt's collar "popped."

I have two friends that work in downtown bars/restaurants that have told me stories of how he demands free drinks, instant service for he and his "entourage."

Football players around Lincoln haven't always been known to be the most cordial or humble characters. However, at least the players before Corey could play. I don't want to get into name-calling, but Corey McKeon is about the last person that should exert himself as a tough-guy.

If he wanted to start a fight with me, all I'd have to do is grab a football and run right at him.

Nice one! He'd come after you with his head down and his eyes closed!

I know the Peter brothers were notorious in the bar scene, but at least they backed it up on the field!

actually, does anyone remember during the 97 season when some guy at a bar in lincoln punched wistrom in the face and game him a black eye. apparently, wistrom did not retaliate and then osborne praised him for not fighting back. that was probably the mature thing to do, but i think alot of people kind of thought he was a "alternative name for a cat" for not at least trying to pummel the guy.

Wistrom definitely wasn't a p***y on the field like Mckeon is!

completely agree with your statement and in reality if he had fought back he probably would have beaten the guy silly and then been suspended or worse; however, i am sure the guy who punched him has made a "career" out of telling anyone who will listen to him that he is the guy that kicked grant wistrom's ass.

  14. You'll understand if I take this with a grain of salt.

i am taking it with two grains of salt. the "quoted" remarks sound too scripted (e.g why would he throw TO's name in there) and more like something that would appear in a teenage sexploitation movie like varsity blues then would happen in real life. i did; however, like the reference to the Brass Rail. what a dump!

  15. Is Tedford from Cal a realistic candidate? I know he loves our facilities and is having problems getting his built.

Tedford is a great coach and would good for Nebraska. He is fed up with Berkley's tree huggers and other assorted fruits and nuts.

he might be fed up with berkeley, but he would never leave there to come to lincoln. there is not a real upside for him, his family, or career to leave a big name university like cal that he has built back up and coming out to the firestorm in lincoln. doesn't make sense right now.

  16. Bo Pelini (already talked to) (Can understand since he has coached here before.)

Jim Leavitt USFl (Won't leave a program that he buildt up himself and has florida to recruit in.)

Gary Patterson TCU (Bad offense and his defense this year isn't that great either)

good comments about the last two. right on the mark.

  17. yeah, no way they even consider him for a position on this staff. there would be a mutiny in big red nation. although, i think it is great that he has gone on and has had his coaching abilities redeemed a bit. good for him. there are a lot worse jobs then coaching at NDSU.

  18. IDK if any of you listened to the game, but if you did, they talked about how Callahan gave the play calling job to Watson, so the coaching staff is atleast trying to find a solution and work things out, maybe we should start blaming the players who cant make the plays they are supposed to .

    Supposedly Callahan relinquished that power.

This is just a rumor, but supposedly Callahan was calling the plays post-halftime -- 0 points scored post-halftime.

All I can say is this: Our coaches are to blame. I'm sorry, but our players are to blame as well.

There is ABSOLUTELY no viable excuse for what we (Nebraska fans) and others around the football world have witnessed from Nebraska football. Period.

The defending of our player's poor play needs to stop. They're big boys. This isn't like criticizing a pee-wee football team's players. Most of them have their college paid for (not I, I'm paying ~$300 a month in student loans from UNL). I still had PLENTY of time to waste, or in the Nebraska Football team's players case...practice and get better. They are here to play football...plain and simple.

Either way, even the most objective observer can see that there is a problem with both our coaching and players. Whether our player's performances can be attributed to coaching...we may never know.

The one thing I do know: The recent performance of Nebraska football is unacceptable.

I think it is time for me to stop living vicariously through Nebraska football. But after all, regardless of the Webster's definition of a fan, isn't that exactly what a "fan" is?

    What to do...what to do?

Perhaps....but I'd be willing to bet the farm these kids would perform much better under a different coaching staff! :)

okay, but i would be willing to bet the farm that if the coaches had better players they would perform much better. i am not defending this coaching staff, but they didn't fumble punts in crucial situations. what is different from this team and the teams from 2005 and 2006? the principles from that coaching staff (head coach, def. coordinator, O-line coach, etc) are the same and most people would agree that they saw progress and improvment. the obvious, major difference is the players.
