  1. This is getting old man, the defending of swift and pedersen and some others. They are good players no problem admitting that. I want them on the team and on the field at times But what we are looking at is the end game, championships and as i go throught the elite teams of this year (Fla, LSU, MICH, USC, OSU, OU, Cal, Texas, Wisconsin, even Arkansas) what stands out to me is this. Swift - would never see the field Pedersen - would not see the field Ruud - would not see the field It does not mean i hate them, it does not mean they haven't been good for Nebraska, It does not mean they are bad people, It doesn't mean they suck! It simply means we need to be better at several positions to get where we want to go. I have never once come on the board and discounted their character or them as a person. I have strictly talked from a football standpoint. some of us get so riled at the thought of them not playing it leaves me confused. swift and pedersen may run great routes and catch the ball consistently, hmmmmmmmm Dewayne Jarret runs better routes with more speed and still catches the ball, so did Johnson from Ga tech, and Ted Ginn and on and on. Those players are out there and i personally think we have a few in purify, henry, holt, brooks, and paul Those players actuall do see the field for the aforementioned teams Octo Dillard Thenarse they play on those teams ruud doesnt AGAIN I LOVE THOSE GUYS THEY ARE HUSKERS, ITS JUST MY OPINION THAT IF THEY ARE WHAT WE HANG OUR HAT ON THEN WE WONT BE VERY GOOD. AND I BELIEVE IF YOU LOOK AT IT FROM THIS STANDPOINT YOU HAVE TO AGREE. IF YOU DONT GREAT BUT I WOULD HAVE TO CHALLENGE you to look at it with an open mind not one that is closed to personal feelings and likes. Sorry about the caps lock
  2. based on results. There may have been times he was open and didnt get the ball but there were far more times where he simply did not have the speed to get open. Against real good Defenses our offense was anemic at best and that was due in large part to the passing game. they would double purify and know that there other d backs could cover our guys one on one. WR are needed that dont allow that to happen. It seems to me that some of you take it personally. Swift is good dont get me wrong and playing him and petersen every down would be fine, but not if we want a Big 12 championship or more. i am not knocking them personally but it is simple, to reach the level we as fans want then we have to go to the next level and while swift is a nice player i personally dont think he is the next level.
  3. i like the posts too gamecocks djr313 i dont think swift sucks he just isnt what we need. when he is one of your top 3 WR you are just not very good nunn need to work on selecting a good seat, one that will keep him comfortable all game long while he watches not plays petersen add some weight and play TE would be good Hardy see nunn Henry Holt Brooks should know the system and play book, go out and catch the f'ing ball make plays thus taking pressure and double off of mopure paul learn baby learn mopure go the right way and to the right spots and dont talk about snow
  4. Love the responses AWESOME but Frank Solich come on. Junior i think ur a good guy, but had frankie kiss butt stayed we would be behind Iowa St at this point. we had no talent, we had no heart, we had nothing, we had players who did not want to play for him period and asst coaches that laughed at him behind his back. Frank was a weasel. he cant get the job done so he abandons several coaches to save his own ass. Milt Tenopir was and may still be the premier line coach in america. he was offered nfl jobs all the time yet when frank had to save his ass he stuck a dagger in the back of a coach that had been here 29 years. yes he did well at ohio its more his speed he was outclassed here. over beers some time ask me how he actually got the running back job or ask me the story of when he was named coach i have a lot of them One of franks biggest problems to me was LITTLE MAN SYNDROME. it wasnt good enough to do it Toms way a way that worked, he had to do it his own way. he was gonna make his mark and i will give him credit for one thing he accomplished probably the hardest thing there is to do in college football HE TOOK THE MOST ELITE MOST DOMINANT TEAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, A TEAM THAT WON 3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 4 YEARS AND RAN THEM INTO THE GROUND IN UNDER 4 YEARS,, NOW THAT IS ONE HELL OF AN ACCOMPLISHMENT. I COULD HAVE COME ON THIS SITE AND RANDOMLY PICKED 11 POSTERS AND THE 12 OF US COULD HAVE GONE AND RECRUITED AFTER THE 97 SEASON WE ARE WHERE WE ARE CUZ frankie sucked and he ran us in the ground and thank goodness pederson came along and had the stones to do what he did or we as a program would be showing up on episodes of unsolved mysteries and on milk cartons claiming HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS ONCE DOMINANT PROGRAM. Junior i think ur a great guy, solich is and was an ass and will forever be an ass, so i respectfully disagree with you and have now vomited my entire breakfast up simply at the thought of weasel boy thinking that David Horne was the running back we needed to offer over cedric benson which is another story ill tell you about some time
  5. I'm just curious. Did you feel the same way about his older brother? I always thought his older brother was nothing more than a pile flopper as well. I guess I'm still bitter about the combines where he took over a tenth of a second off his 40 and said it was due to laying off the beer. I guess playing for the Huskers wasn't motivating enough for him. Wow, couldn't agree more. Biggest knock on Barret was that he had problems shedding blockers. And it wasn't 1 tenth that he shaved, it was 2. That was kind of disappointing, hearing about that. Not to get way off topic or nothing... But about Lucky, he improved dramatically from 05 to 06, and from beginning of the season to now. I think B-Jax didn't play much in the Cotton Bowl because of lingering concerns about the broken hand. I think that Lucky isn't the impact player that AP was initially, but he will continue to improve and when it is all said and done, you will see why he was touted so highly. It's necessarily fair that his progress is not seen as "enough" because some have an unrealistic expectation of what a 5 star athlete "should be". Barretts really struggling to shed blocks in the NFL
  6. I often find it amazing just how hypocritical the posters on this site can be, ( FIRST AND FOREMOST MYSELF). We spin anything and everything so that it best suits us and the argument(s) we are trying to make. I admit i am as guilty as the next, but this whole Marlon Lucky thing is taking the cake. A vast majority of people got on here and pushed for Cally, backed Cally and the job he's done, stating his recruiting as a strong point and they defend him when people question why a certain player is on the field stating "Cally plays the best players, period". Then comes Mr. Lucky. A plethora of the people saying the things above are now stating that Lucky shouldnt be the feature back, he doesnt have this, he cant do that, etc. etc. Now this makes no sense. We adore Cally for playing the best people, telling us naysayers that we need to trust the coaches but you then question the Lucky decision, WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO? If we trust the coaches then Marlon is going to be very good, remember he was the starter the first part of the year, he got a good amount of touches the last part of the year, and was the workhorse in the bowl ahead of the starter for that latter part of the season. the starter for the latter part of the season was healthy and rested yet lucky got the touches. who made that decision OH YEAH, Cally the guy that plays the best players. It is constantly stated that the coaches know way more than us armchair QB's and since we are to trust them they must know and think lucky is better. I think the thing being missed is BJAX who obviously worked his way past a good player and into the nfl. that made lucky work harder and ultimately it appears he pulled back ahead. it speaks well for bjax and for lucky. We as fans and posters cant have it both ways, be consistent with your takes. Should we trust or not trust Cally? We must stop using both arguments depending on the situation and picking which one helps us at this particular time.
  7. I think Barrett was better than Bo but i never thought Barrett was all that good. When he got drafted as high as he did i was shocked but he has really turned out to be just another nfl player nothing special at all. It sounds funny but im being serious when i say that 80% of Bo's tackles are from piling on
  8. I love glenn, but come on he has no where near the talent that lucky or wilson doew, if he is the feature back then we are settling at that position
  9. skers i agree with all you just said other than ruud gets it done. i saw things differently. i saw someone getting beat all the time and getting 10 tackle a game which was really 20 half tackle cuz he piled on at the end
  10. in conjunction with the health statement and the adrian peterson statement petersen is a stud, he was handed the ball 30+ times a game as a freshman on a very very good team with a much less complicated offense. Lucky was not thrown in the fire partly due to the fact that we werent that good and our offense is extremely complicated. It was stated that ruud is healthy all the time so he should play. AP hurt all the time yet he is still a stud. you cant compare the 2 not fair. throw lucky on that team in that situation we would be talking differently about Lucky
  11. amen huskerstaq THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOOT
  12. not gonna argue you have yours and i have mine opinions that is. please explain to me what you see and like in ruud and potential as opposed to not seeing it in lucky. ruud stays healthy cuz he dont hit anyone and the job rarely gets done with ruud RARELY
  13. People get on me for my total lack of faith in Ruud but it appears there are way more Lucky bashers than Ruud bashers, which to me is mind boggling. Here is a kid with gifts that a majority of college players dont possess. he has improved drastically year to year and game to game. he has break away speed, can catch the ball, and block. if his improvement stays on course as the last 2 years he will be awesome next year so many people on here keep telling me that the coaches play the best player. RIGHT? WELL then they need to heed their own advice. Jax was healthy at the bowl game, yet the coaches "who play the best players" played lucky. oh yeah he had almost 75% of the teams total yardage against a Defense that many considered top 5 in the country. Now before going off the deep end remember the quotes that are all over this site. "THE COACHES PLAY THE BEST PLAYERS" I get drilled for not wanting ruud in the game, but he gets defended by you, many of the same people wanting Lucky gone. Im Lost, you want a guy at LB that doesnt hit, is slow, and undertalented YET you want rid of a guy with all the potential in the world who is slowly yet surely growing into that potential day by day thank you for your time sincerely MR CONFUSED
  14. in response to all the great responses 1. Holt, Brooks, Henry, and Paul. Those are the WR i would like to see play over the aforementioned players. They may turn out to suck, but for what they are supposed to be, if they develop as they should then they have to play in front of the others. 2. "i like 6'3 4.4 better" we didnt need them when we won championships because we had a different offense. We need them with this offense. Bring the WR back from 95. with them this year we have at least 2 more losses. I respect everyones opinion but comparing the need for WR in 95 and in 07 is like comparing Jennifer aniston to Rosie O'donnell. 3. I think and hope the coaches play the best player. I hope this because if they can coach and have recruited like we have been led to believe then this isnt a discussion. The players like octo thenarse, dillard etc will play cuz they are better. if they arent playing then we need to re evaluate the kind of player we are recruiting. If Ruud plays next year im sure he is the most deserving and i wont be mad that he is out there i will be upset because we havent recruited someone better WHICH SHOULD NOT BE HARD TO DO. MY 10 YEAR OLD LIKES CONTACT MORE THAN HIM AND HITS HARDER ALSO.
  15. I agree they start the first game YOU ARE ON , I BETTER LOSE SOME WEIGHT JUST IN CASE I LOSE AND HAVE TO WEAR SOME SORT OF FEMINIE ATTIRE
  16. side bet Mahoney Murillo and Asante will start If im wrong and both dont start I will wear an outfit of your choice to your choice of Home game. I will show up pregame where ever you would like so that i can be made fun of to the fullest extent. If im wrong and only one of the 2 start then i will meet you pregame for 2 home games at a time and place set forth by you and i will pay for all libations for you and 3 guests However, if im right and both start you have to come on this board and tell everyone through a new post at least once a day for 30 days how great and wonderful and inspiring my views and posts are. If start a topic you have to get on and tell everyone how insightful and correct i am. It will be fun
  17. Academic standards huh, like athletes follow those standards. I had many scholarship offers out of high school for baseball. MY GPA was a lazy 2.6. my tests scores were avg ACT-20 SAT-1100 Duke offered my a scholarship guaranteed admission. The girl that sat next to me in my math class was second overall in our class of over 600 students GPA 4.3 on a 4.0 scale, ACT and SAT top 10% She wanted to go to Duke more than anything in the world ADMISSION DENIED. True story i was there i witnessed it i was a part of it. Dont tell me there are standards. Half of the ND football team couldnt get in follow normal procedures. All of these athletes go to D1 because they want to play in the NFL very very few want to get a degree first and play football alongside. We use these kids. if we didnt then they couldnt get in to the Highest Academic Learning Institutes period. We erase the boundaries allowing them entrance with the hopes that they will bring greatness to the athletic Dept thus increasing revenue and income.
  18. Does anyone on here travel a lot for work? If you do do you get expense reimbursement? Similar to Frisco's statement what if you made 60k a year but you spent 25k a year in travel expenses and your employer came to you and said no more expense reimbursement. your salary is for the job you do and that includes travel. you chose this job now suck it up be poor and spend your own money to go make the company money. YOU ALL WOULD BE FIT TO BE TIED
  19. all im saying is STIPEND AND NOT A LARGE ONE. hell 500 might be to high. 200 per month would do a lot for a lot of these athletes. Pay them and give them a stipend are 2 different animals. No i dont think they should be paid, but what is wrong with a small stipend that is set at an amount that is uniform for all D-1 schools
  20. why allow us fat fickle fans to get our rocks off at the expense of some kids that are making the school a boatload of money. we go to games and spend hundreds on game day. we get on boards and byotch and moan and arm-chair coach. they bust their asses and fit in study time and class time and go out and leave their guts on the field. when the game is over the coaches and administration go home to 500k dollar homes, we the fans go get a nice meal, go to the bar and spend money The players, who did all the work and made all the money go to the cafeteria, go to the dorm, or to an apartment shared with 4-5 other broke ass players to eat Ramen Noodles. Every D-1 school has the money to pay athletes up to 500 per month. Make it a range from 200-500 based on the sport and how much revenue they bring the school. I.E. swimming may get 200 per athlete while football would get 500 per athlete.
  21. I DISAGREE. I think they should be paid. They are the biggest revenue source a school has. Mind you not paid a lot but a monthly stipend of say $500 dollars. A lot of these kids come from homes where money is not in excess. A lot of these kids cant even go out to dinner or on a date. If you are not going to pay them then at least let them have jobs because as it stands now, if you are on scholarship, full ride or partial, you can not work during the year. $4 mil a year for a college coach to coach kids that cant go out to Applebees once a month is wrong. 25k a year no, but give them a stipend each month to allow them to provide themselves with some just rewards for all they do for the university's
  22. i get ya see i just need smarter people to provide me with better answers. I dont hate Ruud, i just personally think he is in Shanle's class in terms of ability but I WILL ADMIT, Cally and Co. probably know slightly more than i do ( by a hair) so i have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll bet though that Asante and Murillo start. Asante from the word go and Murillo a few games in if not at the start. I would rather see someone else but i'd put money on Ruud starting too which will then give you all the ammo needed to tell me what i already know, I REALLY SUCK HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT DAY
  23. It was said somewhere on one of the posts that you cant justifiably say that Asante and Murillo are going to come in here and start. Am I wrong to think that the only reason to recruit a juco player with 2 years left is so that they can start immediately. If Murillo and Asante cant come in and start why recruit them. If the juco D-Lineman cant come in a enter the rotation immediately they shouldnt be here. Now i get that a few players just dont work out but not all. Maybe I'm off somewhere. I dont claim to know it all so hopefully someone can point out that my thinking is illogical. If a JUCO can't step in and play get a high schooler. P.S. if Murillo isnt starting i think i'd rather have Jones in the game than Grixby
  24. You make my point and you may be right. I have opinions but never say i am right. Just because he is a true husker does not mean he should play. not if you come from my view where winning is more important than playing legacies
  25. NO OFFENSE TAKEN I may not know a lot, but (and i hate name dropping) a former LB for us works for me. We have this discussion every day. He is on my page. He thinks Ruud is awful, 2 of his good friends who played here whom ive had the good fortune of getting to know think Ruud is awful. now while i may know nothing i take their word for it do to the fact they do know good from bad.
