  1. If Haussmann wants to go to Iowa so be it. They are going to continue to get worse as long as Ferentz is calling the shots. Their defense will not be able to overcome the offensive ineptitude they continue to put on display. Best of luck to him. He won’t beat us once before he graduates. Iowa is going to fall behind rapidly in the West in the upcoming years

    What Fru said.

It's not about blaming Riaola for everything. It's that if there was ONE position coach you wanted to bring change and credibility, it was OL, making it an awkward place for the single Frost holdover.

Agree. I’m hoping it was just not being in sync with Whipple regarding what he wanted to do and what we had the personnel to do and this staff feels DR has the right philosophy and vision for the OL for what the envision for this offense

Out of curiosity, what truly makes him a great hire?  As a DC at Syracuse they were 13-22.  In a lot of their losses, the opposing team went over 30+ points (16 out of 22).  It's not like they were world beaters going 1-10, 5-7 and 7-5.  Granted the total D was abysmal in 2020 and then improved to 22 in 2021 and 29 in 2022.  But still a 13-22 overall record.  Looks like their O didn't help much in the losses, but the D still gave up 30+ in the losses.  Just feel like I am having to convince myself these guys are great hires vs ok hires.

Yeah. This DC hire is a kick in the nuts imo. I haven’t read the whole thread but why were we waiting so long for this guy? Completely underwhelming. I wish him all the best in proving me wrong but this is just totally…meh

There are a couple things going on here.

If you were entertaining the image of Mickey Joseph strangling his wife, would it change the narrative if you found out he was actually fighting with a man he caught with his wife?  Yes. Absolutely. Is one scenario more excusable than the other? Yes. Absolutely. It just is.

But does it excuse Mickey for behavior we are all legally required to control? No.  Should the consequences be severe regardless of who was in the room?  Yes. Has the court of public opinion already cost Joseph millions, regardless of the legal findings still to come? Yes. What are the chances these revelations will be murky and nuanced and creepy? 100%

Is everyone in here wrong and right at the same time? Maybe!

    Well done sir

What you can't seem to get is regardless of if it's just, if it's following the terms of the contract, it's doable. If his contract states one cause he could be fired for is if someone accuses him of being an alien from the horsehead nebula, and then someone does claim that, even if it's not true, he can still be fired with cause

That’s making an assumption that he has a terrible agent that would allow such open ended language in a contract with money of that magnitude on the table. Is it possible? Sure. Maybe he and his agent are stupid or incompetent. None of us are privy to his contract. But it would be very odd to expose yourself in a contract where a mere accusation allows you to be terminated for cause. My guess is administrative leave will be in place and once UNL reviews the facts and ascertains the likelihood of his guilt they will act. If the initial evidence looks awful they will probably take the risk and terminate

She could have been injurred in the tussle between him and another (maybe), or.... there could have been a third wheel/ poly situation... or an extramarital affair on his part that could be involved.

I'll admit his wife is most likely the victim, but I'll wait for the facts before assigning him the title wife beater.

Oh I totally agree. I’m fully on the side of let’s actually hear what happened. I was mainly referring to another post suggesting the scenario I mentioned. I really hate the rush to judgement and condemnation without facts our society currently seems so fond of. I was just pointing out that the actual charges mean it’s someone he either lived with or slept with

As a wrestler, it's just where my mind went when reading the statute. A headlock (which is a wrestling move) is not uncommon position to be in if there was an altercation or scrap.

I also do not automatically assume the victim was his wife, as some here have already decided upon. Could very well have been another male in his household.

Final thing to remember, the damn media is in it for the clicks. They will post the most salacious language possible, rather than let the truth come out every time. It is better for business.

Doesn’t the language in the statute defining domestic violence suggest it would have to be someone he cohabitates with or has an intimate relationship with to qualify as domestic violence. That would seem to negate the he found her with another dude and attacked the guy angle. That would probably just be assault and battery I would think.

How do you know this is just an 'accusation?' Do you know there's know evidence?

I would say by definition it’s an accusation right now. He is being accused of those crimes. Whether there is evidence or not doesn’t change the fact that this is an accusation not a conviction at this point. That’s for the courts to decide. And the other poster is correct. It is very risky to terminate a contract based on accusation. They certainly can do it but it’s not without risk and I guarantee you they will get sued should he be cleared of wrongdoing. The bizzaro world is the US court system

I feel just terrible for his family, wife, kids and Mickey himself. Hope everything works out for them.

As far as Huskernation….I can only hope this is one last final kick in the nuts from the curse.

Yeah I just think of that Iowa post game presser with his kid in his lap and it f#&%ing rips my heart out

I would imagine that he'll probably address the team over this. I mean at the very least Trev probably will, but I imagine Rhule will as well. Remember Ron Brown's speech/prayer at the Penn State game after Paterno was fired? IDK if you watched Rhule's intro presser or not, but the dude talks like a preacher (his dad is a minister, and it clearly rubbed off on him).

I would hope the message is as simple as let’s all pray for Coach Joseph and his family through these circumstances. Regardless of what happened Mickey has had an enormous impact on many young men in his career and that should not be disregarded. We are all flawed

I wonder if some posts have been deleted. I don’t get the posts about the thread being “wild” or belonging in the woodshed. Seems pretty mild to me.

I think some people need to back the truck up on a couple issue.

1- Depending on the language in his contract, he absolutely could be terminated for cause without guilt being determined. There are clauses for public perception, bad PR etc. that could be triggered simply by an arrest. To say that absolutely isn’t possible is wrong….unless you know exactly what is in his contract.

2- It’s pretty ridiculous imo to be trying to blame the University or Trev or whoever for hiring him after an alleged incident that occurred 32 years ago while he was a student. That incident is not something that should have reasonably precluded him from being hired or employed as the interim HC. Get a friggin grip.

On number 2. Abso-f#&%ing-lutely. When did we get to the point in society where a stupid decision in your youth precludes you from redemption or ever getting another chance to make a life and career for yourself.
