  1. Yea this thread is getting out of hand, but you guys nit-pick to the exact play everything anyone says. We say “we played bad against USC” and you guys pull out your big boy stat book and start typing it out to us. Cosgrove’s defense has not dominated a quality opponent since he’s been here point blank.
  2. I understand that your post is seething with sarcasm, good job! You point is lost on me, you don't like Cosgrove because of why? My only guess as the defense is not playing to your expectations. Please elaborate why you dislike the Base 4-3 that Cosgrove runs, is that what makes it inconsistent? Well Ca husker has explained a lot of my problem with his scheme. I love the base 4-3 defense, but you can’t be stubborn and make players fit your system, your system needs to adjust to your players. Now like I said I love the 4-3 but unless you know a way to get Terrell Farley or Eric Johnson back to NU your going to have to use nickel and dime packages on 3 and 4 receiver sets. My other point is that Cosgrove has been there for 3 years now so if Grixby is all you got… once again whose fault is that(I personally don’t think Grixby is to blame but that’s irrelevant to this point). I know I know “Bowman’s hurt” but if he were here Grixby would still be a starter and guess what? He’d still be 5’9.Go take a look at a roster from the mid 90’s when the BLACKSHIRTS dominated compare the size and speed of our LB’s and DB’s from then to now, he hasn’t even recruited the right type of guys, and if he has and we’re just not using them then that is just plain stupid. I personally think are defense is headed in the wrong direction but it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere so I guess will see.
  3. USC only scored 7 against UCLA. What was differant about UCLA's gameplan? Well, they blitzed and kept presure on USC. They didn't play scared. They didn't cover wide receivers with linebackers. They used nickel packages. Oh, and by the way, living out here I can tell you...UCLA gets none of the talent. They get all of the leftovers. Their defense was just coached better. If we would have had their gameplan we would have won that game because our offense score more than 7. There is a serious problem on the defensive side of the ball and until it is fixed we are screwed. Coz has to go! I have to agree with Ca husker living in So Cal most of the top high school kids go to S.C. and UCLA gets the rest. Of course ucla gets talent theres a lot of good high school football in so cal but usc gets the best, they always have.
  4. You guys are totally right, these coz haters are an absolute joke. If they would use some simple football logic instead of trying to coach from their pee-wee equipment manager job, then they would know that the best way to cover a wide receiver is with a linebacker, silly guys. Or how about the ones who think its dumb to take your best defensive player make up a nifty new name for him like “strong side end” and the line him up on the tight-end side in constant double teams. Then there’s the dumbest ones of all, the guys who think that coaches are the ones who recruit and choose the players that are out on the field, can you believe these guys think you shouldn’t blame 19 and 20 year old kids for a entire teams inconsistent and miserable pass defense. And I’ve never been a Callahan hater, in fact the only thing I hate about Callahan is that he hired Cosgrove.
  5. I can say that because OU was averaging 188.67 rush yds per game. We held them to 42. The front seven did there job amazingly well. Like I said, we have DBack issues. OU had 265 yards against us and averaged 182 per game. OU scored on a long 66 yard pass play that was given up by Grixby. Oklahoma's only sustained drive was a 10-play, 99-yard drive. This is when we surrendered a 35-yard completion to Jermal Greshman on third-and-10 (from the 1 yard line). OU ended the drive with a three-yard TD pass. Thompson hooked up with Kelly on 10 of the 19 completions. Kelly produced 142 receiving yards, including a 66-yard catch (Grixby was covering him). Thompson had 142 against Grixby and 123 yards against the rest of the defense. Other than the part of the defense everybody knows is weak (Grixby), the rest of the D played EXCEPTIONAL. I just wanted to thank you for helping me prove my point. Like so many of us have said already Grixby is not going to bench himself, the coaching staff makes those decisions. I don’t remember anyone talking about our excellent offensive performance in the game. We all know the offence was off, but defending Cosgrove for coming up with half a game plan for one game this year. I don't know.
  6. You guys kill me. How you can watch a game that Paul Thompson… yes Paul Thompson shreds are defense for close to 300 yards and two td’s and then say “well we played good defense”. We only gave up 14 points because Paul Thompson sucks
  7. Also on the 66 yrd touchdown we had double coverage on the TE going up the middle of the field and we left grixby in single coverage on the outside. On the 36 yrd pass from the end zone we were on a delayed blitz witch still gave him time to throw. We also blitzed on Shanle's int. But my complaints are about the whole year not just last night
  8. I agree they were taking advantage of the Kelly and Grixby match up, but if Grixby can’t cover him then get one of the young guys out there, or a nickel back to double cover or how about a few more blitzes to put more pressure on the qb. When coz blitzed it worked he just didn’t do it enough
  9. The reason Carriker was a non factor and constantly double teamed is because our brilliant D. Coordinator thinks it a good idea to always put our best defensive player on the “strong side” every play so he is double teamed constantly. I agree our offence didn’t get it done last night but our d has been horrible against the pass all year
  10. I was be facetious I know we played well against the run. But stopping the run and getting killed in the air is definitely not the way to coach defense. And what does our total offense have to do with Cosgrove.
  11. I think all the blame is on coz, everybody is saying that we only gave up 14 points and how we great we were at stopping the run. Sure we stopped a few run plays but they never had to try to run the ball because we gave up 10 yards a pass. All year long we’ve made every quarterback we’ve faced look like All-Americans. We don’t put enough pressure on the passer with the blitz we don’t use any nickel packages. we’re constantly guarding WR with LB and playing players out of position. It’s not Grixby’s fault, he plays hard every play. If he isn’t good enough and there is no one on the team by this time in the season better then it’s all coaching.
