  1. Next year is a whole different season. NU played very poorly and will probably be better, while KU and MU played extremely well and will have a hard time maintaining that. Without the benefit of seeing these teams play their OOC schedules, I'd say NU has a decent chance of upsetting one of them. But both MU and KU are favorites over NU at this point, and rightfully so.

This will be a much more meaningful discussion by the end of September.

  2. I think that every team experiences tough losses when trying to get over the next "hump". Mizzou is finally a top team in the B12 and in the nation - this usually comes with tough losses because the teams already at that plateau (i.e. OU) have played in championship games and know how to approach those games. The real test is can Mizzou get back to the B12 championship game, because once you're in the game, it doesn't matter how you got there, and you have an opportunity to win. It's much harder to win consistently against every opponent than it is to be above average with a few upsets, just ask TTech.

  3.

What exactly is it about his resume that impresses you? His glorious 3 year stint as Offensive Coordinator at Missouri State? Oh wait, or his linebackers position at Illinois State?

I don't know, I might sound condescending, but I think we could've found a full-fledged Running Backs coach.

You do realize that this is the RB coach, right? Can you name many RB coaches, and who should we have gotten?

  4. I highly doubt Johnson comes to Nebraska to play. He doesn't even have an offer. He is scheduled to visit Cal on the 11th and the Ducks on the 18th. No mention of him even scheduling a visit here.

He is considering visiting NU on the 25th. I doubt he'll actually visit, but if he does, we've got an excellent chance since it'll be so close to signing day.

  5. As an interesting aside, rivals had an interview with him, and he mentioned that Phillip really likes the new coaches. Several people have brought up some sort of conflict between Pelini and Dillard from back during recruiting. But Lynn gives the impression that it's water under the bridge and PD is excited about the new coaches.

  6. His academic problems apparently stem from his HS records being destroyed by Katrina. It isn't that he needs tutoring or somehow needs help, he simply doesn't have proof he took some classes which are required. Reports are that he's taking some online classes in order to finish on time and graduate in May. This isn't confirmed anywhere but is what I've put together from various sources.

  7. callahan had a great recriuting class this year we were ready to turn the corner but no one wanted to wait one more year we will pay a price for him getting fired

Actually, I think Callahan was the price we paid for firing Solich. Now we need to recover from BC which is going to take some time and some hits to recruiting.

  8. I really dont think we are as far away as some people are saying

The problem is that not everyone has the same notion of "getting there". In other words, as far away from what? Plus expectations change as the team does better/worse. So some will think we're not far away and some will think we are far away, regardless of the results.

But I do agree with your main point that the D could be significantly improved regardless of the players.

  9. Speculation is that Hawkins is telling the recruits that Bo not having a contract means there may be a fallout between him and TO. I don't know if that's what Hawkins is actually saying, but it makes sense since that's probably what I'd do if the reverse was happening. Recruiting is completely fluid until the name is on the dotted line. We're going to lose some more, we're going to get some back, and we're going to get some others that will appear on the radar in January.

  10. Just can't get excited about 4.5 or even 4.4 anymore. We have some of those guys already and our team generally looks slow, especially at skill positions. Now, if he's got a unique receiving talent, then I'm all for it, but we need guys that are serious threats to take it to the house, not just catch it.

Doesn't look like he's gotten too many big time offers.

There are in fact very few that actually have sub 4.5 speed coming out of HS. Most of those claiming to have that speed are really 4.5 - 4.7 but have inflated or handheld times.
