While i believe KU wins the game i most certainly think it will be close and will not be any bit shocked if we win. Ku was good last year. Good not Great. The one fact i have yet to see thrown out on this thread is: Everything went right for KU last year. Zero major injuries, every bounce went there way, couple with a weak schedule. That cannot happen 2 years in a row. There will be injuries, teams will not be surprised by you, Reesing will prove not to be God but an average QB. His mistakes last year went without punishment, this year they will be turnovers. The schedule is way worse. Do i think KU will suck, no. they will most likely be better than us this year although i dont think that is a given. I would even argue that we have more talent. I thnk Mangino is one of the best at getting the most out of average players whereas Cally was on of the best at getting less out of talented players. No doubt KU will be an above avg team, but a powerhouse they will not be

Has anyone heard anything about Will Henry. He is the one WR i really expected to have a break out year. Is anyone hearing how he is doing?

good read. I truly hope that Holt Brooks Henry Gillylen(sp) Paul all step up. If they are not ready and Swift and Petersen are as Ganz says (my go to guys) then we are in some trouble. The prospect of having to go through an entire season with Ganz Swift and Petersen all starting on offense is gloomy. The combo of those three would not collectively start at any of the top 50 programs in america

why do all of you get so defensive? Ganz should start, we arent questioning that. Wha we are saying is that our talent at QB right now is not good. Lee or Witt may evolve into excellent QB's but right now our talent pool isnt good. Ganz should start but that doesnt mean he is good, it means he is the best option right now and that sucks because he is average at best. When i asked an ex Div 1 coach if Ganz was good, his comment was "he is the best option we have" I asked does that mean he is good and the reply was "he knows the offense" I dont want to argue, but write it down now, Ganz will lose us at least 1 game next year but will not win us a game. HE SIMPLY IS OUR BEST OPTION RIGHT NOW

I concede, I believe Ganz is the man for the job. It really sucks though knowing that he won the QB battle because IMO it says that our QB pool is very bad right now. When Ganz wins the battle we are very poor at that position

OMG wow someone has an opinion that differs from the WE ARE GOING TO KICK ASS scenario and you sheep all chime in about how they cant be true Husker fans. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, PERIOD. I happen to partially agree with this poster. 1. Defense, I think we will be drastically improved, but Tech Mizzou OU have a very good chance of shredding us even with the improvements. 2. the runnin game - I think lucky will have a monster year, but if not Roy and quentin will be fine. With new Blocking schemes and attitude i think our running game will be much improved. 3. WR- Major problem. It is very scary when your GaNAZINATOR LMAO states that my go to guys are swift and petersen. That should scare the most loyal of fans. They are 2 possession WR with change of possession hands. they cant separate and drop as many as they catch. Currenski, has speed but it remains to be seen if he can hang on to the ball. WR is a huge problem IMO 4. OL will be way better which will keep us in more games and let our running game be drastically improved. 5. DL same players new scheme better coaches means they will be better RIGHT? 6. LB OH BOY scary. I think Dillard will be very good, but after that it is a crap shoot. I think they will make more plays than last year but there is going to be mental lapses as well due to youngsters and newbies playing significant minutes. 7. Secondary will be fine. Our safeties are real good and i believe our CB will be a surprise. 8. QB oh the QB Ganz is there he will do ok, nothing great. The problem i have with the QB position is; to win 9 plus games in College football you need a QB that can win you a game. I dont see that happening. I see several games where Ganz will be there and do fine and we will be in the game and win and I see a few games where we will need the QB to step it up and carry us to victory and that is where i think you'll see Ganz disappear. Our QB position is as weak as the WR and DL and LB. we have a consumate team player who knows the system like the back of his hand so he will do average most of the time, but we also have a QB that is undertalented with a very weak arm who tends to force the ball when the going is tough. This will happen a few times too and will cost us the chance to win a few games. Bottom line is i think8-4 tops more likely 7-5. Vtech i think is the kicker. Regardless of new players they will come in and play serious D. Ganz will more than likely make a mistake or two that will cost us this game Hope Not but Most Likely IMO Mizzou - Ganz is going to have to play perfect, no TO's cuz mizzou will score a lot. we cant beat them imo this year OU - could be rough. They are top 3-4 in country and we are at there house Tech- Improved D means they will score a lot and therefore we will have to as well. This will be a real high scoring game but this is another game that will come down to Ganz not being as efficient as needed and a few picks later we lose KU is better than us right now. They are coming off a great season and have a great coach that has installed a system and philosophy that they have all bought into. They will fall off eventually but i think this year they beat us at home. I hope not but i do. Bo will get us there, but you have to have the horses. I do believe we have talent but a lot of it is young and unproven. Until they are ready you have to go with what you got. That means that we have to see Ganz and Swift and Petersen and Wortman and Glenn and Ty and Dixon and when those are the guys that you have to count on then you have to expect IMO that you will be average at best. It is very hard to be elite and compete for championships with avg players especially at skill positions like QB and WR

I think bo will do great things here, just not this year. i think we will struggle this year with 8 wins being the absolute top. I think bo is fair and playing the right guys. I guess my disappointment is in the fact that neither witt or lee is ready. I think both are more gifted than ganz. i dont think ganz is very good so i had hoped to see one of the 2 ready to go. Ganz will make many mistakes and is not a QB to take a team on his shoulders and will them to victory. IMO Believe me I hope I am way wrong

If it was going to be this way why not just have the 1's vs the 2's. yeah im serious. im not talking about anyon unseating ganz. im talking about having a draft and splitting up sides "evenly" and making a production of a big steak vs hot dogs bet and then having one offense play to win and the other not. I dont believe ganz is going to be unseated, not at all, i just think the game was a major letdown. the red team attacked downfield while the white team dumped the ball off and threw screen after screen. If you interpreted my post as a wish for ganz to be unseated then i am not very eloquent, since that was nowhere near my intention. I thought the game was a major letdown. While i realize that we dont want players hurt, i guess i expected a game where 2 evenly picked sides were both going to try to win. Ganz, i dont think he is unseatable at this point. I do think however that the red colored kool aid flowing around about how good we are going to be is blown out of proportion. we will be improved from last year for sure but we are not going to compete for a title of any sorts because to win titles it takes a very good QB and Joe Ganz is not one of those. While he may be the best we have that doesnt make him great. We will be playing with a very average QB next year and its time we accept that.

Wow what a let down this game was. To all the rest of you that thought you were attending the RED WHITE spring game but really attended the "Lets showcase Ganz and make Witt and Lee look average" game, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING DUPED. Are you kidding me. They let ganz throw downfield middle, deep outs, all over the place, yet they let witt and lee dump, dump,screen, screen, dump. JOKE. If your going to hype this game with a draft and try to convince everyone there will be true competition, then maybe they should do a better job of trying to hide the real meaning of this game. Clearly, they wanted to put certain people into positions that would sell the fanbase on just how much better they were than the competition. the white team in no way tried to win this game offensively. WHAT A SHAM. How does Niles Paul not catch a ball ( only one thrown his way) Please, this was a bigger joke than the format Cally used. They can feel good about mission accomplished though. The average everyday Joe will leave there thinking Ganz is great and Lee and Witt not anywhere near him and that is what they wanted all along. Ganz maybe the better of the 3 but let each guy prove that on the field. I arrived early and watched warmups and Ganz has by far the worst arm of the group including Spano and Davis. It would have been nice to see lee or witt trying to hit Paul on a deep post or Brooks on a deep out. However all we got was a heavy dose of screen right and dump flat left. As far as Keller being better and there being no bias goes. Why did the O take-off under Ganz? Just coincidedence? I think not. Joe doesn't have Keller's arm but he knows the system better and can keep drives going with his feet. If BC wasn't biased he'd have given Ganz a shot in the Mizzou or OSU-game. I would give more credit to the offense taking off at this time to mopure being on the field for 90 percent of the snaps. Up til the time Ganz took over, mopure played about 25% of the snaps

yes he should have given Ganz an opportunity because we were getting crushd. To be fair and honest i guess i say one is better than the other based on the NFL which really isnt fair. Keller has a decent shot at getting drafted while i dont believe Ganz has any chance. As for the INT's I do realize that when in pass mode you are prone to more picks, what i dont concede is his int numbers are inflated. 7 picks in 3 games is a bad number but i will take 3 off for the pass happy mode. 4 in 3 games is acceptable, i guess a better point i am trying to make is that all of the should have been int's are very concerning. He had way more balls that should have been picked than the avg QB even QB's in pass happy mode. Danimal, come on you are a smart guy. NO the picks arent inflated you didnt address my point. There are several situations where the D will know we are passing. by your logic ganz will throw picks and it will be ok since the D knew we were going to pass. That is one of the most cockeyed ideas ive heard in a long time. Ganz threw picks cuz the D knew we were passing. Lets say he doesnt throw picks. Several times each year a team has to move the ball quickly down the field by getting the passes downfield. Ganz has a very below average arm, what will the excuse be then, " he cant throw the ball downfield because he doesnt have the arm strength because BC loved Keller and was biased therefore ganz didnt get enough reps in practice to strengthen his arm". A lot of our fans amaze me with their blind acceptance of factual things. I love Ganz, hell he plays for NU but we also want the best teams possible and if Ganz is the best QB we have then we are not in great shape at that position. I contend that although Ganz can run a very little, he will be easier to defend for teams because they wont have to defend past 20 yard from the line of scrimmage. The whole bias thing is a joke, Keller was and is the better QB, you have no reason to say otherwise. your opinion is based on pure bias. one other thing to note is MOPURE. I dont believe there is any coincidence that Ganz had the stats he had because coinciding with Ganz starting was the first time all year that MOPURE actually played a majority of the snaps. I remember games early in the year where MOPURE was on the sideline more than the game. One game alone in the first half Purify was on the sideline for 5 3rdand longs. ganz took over and at the same time BC pulls his head out his ass and decides that maybe our only playmaking WR ought to fricking play

I think you are all missing the point we are trying to make. We DONT know if Witt or Lee are better, we just hope so because if Ganz is the best we have then we arent very good at that position righ now. say all you want about last year. Ganz couldnt win the job, and played cuz the starter got hurt. He threw a lot of TD's but it was extremely inflated due to BC running up the score. He also threw a lot of picks and those are not inflated. the excuse of "the D knew we were throwing" doesnt fly. Down 14 with 5 minutes left does the d know we are throwing? Down 5 with 40 seconds left, does the D know we are throwing? There are all kinds of situations in any given game where the D knows we are throwing. If ganz throws a pick in the 2 minute drill are you all going to excuse it because " THE D KNEW WE WERE THROWING" Also they picks are not inflated because in the KU game alone he should have thrown 5 more picks that literally hit the D in the numbers and they dropped them. If Ganz is the best then he should start, some of us just hope thats not the case because if it is, then We are very thin at the most important position on the field.

Good reply and you are correct, I dont know personally if Witt and Lee are better athletes, just what ive heard. I want the best to play as well and hope they do. All I am saying is ganz from what i have seen is not that talented. I dont know if Witt and Lee are more talented but i would hope as a fan that they are. I guess what i am trying to say is If Ganz is the best we have then we dont have very much

Also, the emergence of a tightend would be nice to help free up our other receivers by adding another threat for the defense to account for. very good point

Wow this is a great thread, i love when threads like this are out there. I agree with a lot of what is being said in regards to Ganz. Is he more Talented than Witt Lee and Spano, No! Does he have a weak arm, Yes! Does he lead well, Yes it appears so. blah Blah Blah. IMO Ganz will start only because of experience, he is not a better passer than Witt or Lee, He doesnt have as good of arm as Witt or Lee, He is not as mobile and agile as Lee. All these things have been stated publicly by players or media. The only thing he has going is experience. KSU game, sure he put up big numbers, Cally ran up the score. there was no need to have the last 3 td's thrown by Ganz. KU we were behind and throwing a lot but his 4 picks should have been 8-9. the defenders just couldnt catch and the excuse of "The D knew we were throwing" doesnt fly when those passes were poorly thrown "ducks" thrown right at defenders. CU we were not behind therefore the D did not know we were throwing and yet after some really bad throws the picks were still there. The hypocracy is my favorite. We build Ganz up and give excuses about the predictability, the fact that the D knew we were passing, yet we wont let Lucky slide. Talk about putting up numbers in spite of the D knowing what was going on. The D knew what we were doing yet Lucky still had a monster year and we dont let him slide in the least. Ganz will start due to experience alone. He will be average at best, not because he wont play hard or lead well. It will be because he has average at best talent. Saturday, the only negative from the scrimmage i heard was the inability to complete a deep ball. some of that falls on the WR but some on the QB. IMO we will be an improved team this year, but i still contend, if your team starts Ganz at QB and Swift and Petersen at WR then talent wise you are an average team at best. That combo there would not start at any of the top 50 teams in the country. I dont think we should or can expect numbers like Ganz put up last year. All of the stats and love and hugging and kisses for ganz are great. No really they are meaningless. I think you have to look at the overall picture. He threw a lot of picks in 3 games not 4. He threw a lot of should be picks in 3 games not 4. He did this in an enviroment where people knew we were throwing so what. What happens in a 2 minute drill, PEOPLE KNOW WE ARE THROWING. What happens when we are behind, yes WE WILL BE BEHIND AGAIN. You also must look at passes that were neither INT's or should have been INT's. I seem to recall a lot of poorly thrown balls especially balls thrown down the field. I seem to recall a QB having to put excess air under the ball when throwing down field. I seem to recall several passes that safeties made plays on because the arm strength wasnt there. Look, Ganz is a Husker therefore i love him. I just dont believe that he can be or is the best QB we have on the roster. I believe the only thing going for him is experience. What is the preseason for, experience, we play some cupcakes that is when Lee or Witt gets there experience. I just dont get it. we Husker fans want the moon, but are pining for and praying for an average at best QB to win the job and in doing so we routinely and purposely overlook the hard evidence which is Ganz is avg at best, we have better potential on the bench.

I need to clarify myself i guess. I guess to say our offense wasnt rolling was somewhat of a bad statement. We did roll. However, we will not make it through an entire season rolling as you call it with QB play like last year. Teams are not going to drop 5 interception opportunities a game. We play some very athletic teams that will have a field day with his poor throws. To make it worse they are poor throws with zero zip on the ball. There has been a hundred questions posted on this board about our talent and how it compares to everyone else. If Ganz Swift and Petersen are starters then in MY OPINION our talent level is the bottom of the Big 12. Where would Ganz start in the Big 12. Tx no OU no TTech no OSU no MU no KU no KSU no CU ? A&M ? Iowa St yes thats sad at NU we should not have starters that couldnt start for over half the teams in our conference.

I have to disagree here whole heartedly. Did the offense put up a lot of yards YES. Did the offense score a lot of points YES. Did the offense roll NO not really. 1. Yards and Points were high because we were playing teams that scored a ton of points. they had avg defenses and we were playing from behind 2. What i saw was an offense that moved the ball a ton when it didnt really matter. KU was no pressure we were getting crushed. KSU was no pressure as the Cats quit early in that game. CU was really no pressure until halftime. What happened when the pressure situation hit. Ganz makes awful decisions, even worse throws, and simply kills all momentum we had. We Lose. What i saw from Ganz was a player with average athleticism and a gunslinger mentality. The problem with that is he has a gunslinger mind and a pop warner arm. He made a ton of bad decisions, more in 3 games than Keller in 9. KU had (4?) picks i believe but should have had 9. not 9 maybe picks but 9 ball hit defender in chest picks, they just dropped 5 of them. There were some really bad throws against KSU we were just fortunate that they didnt hurt us. CU took full advantage of Ganz's mistakes. Not just the picks but other poor throws that killed drives, throws that allowed defenders to make plays on the ball. I saw a ton of passes from Ganz that took too long to get there due to lack of arm strength. A ton of throws that were caught but were way off the mark. Call me crazy, but in all reality, there wasnt much of anything Ganz did that impressed me, not even his 20 yard scramble ( why, scrambles like that happen all the time all over the country, we just hadnt seen it with our team so it appeared to be impressive) If Ganz wins the job in a fair open competition so be it, I just think that means that we wont be near as good as a team as we would like. I say the same thing about the WR if Swift and Petersen are the starters, then we simply arent very good and the question about how much talent we have ANSWERS ITSELF,,,LITTLE

Let me start by saying that this post, is in no way a flame of any sorts. In fact i will categorically agree that I am 100 % guilty of all of the issues in the post to come. I just figured, since there isn't much to talk about, that i would ask these questions. 1. Why is it that we as fans demand so much success from our football program, YET, fall in love with certain players that are not best suited to help the team reach our high demands. a. I will give 2 quick examples that i see daily. 1. Joe Ganz, as a majority, Husker nation has put this kid up on an unrealistic pedastal. Any talk by the few, offering scenarios where Ganz doesnt start or offering reasons why Ganz is not so Great, get blown up immediately and then pile on. We want success immediately from our new staff and team yet come Hell or High water it had better be done with Ganz. Why?, just suppose for a moment, just pretend, that Ganz is not the best Choice. Our fanbase would have a meltdown. b. WR, mention that we may have much more talented WR that have yet to see action, and an altar for your sacrifice will be constructed in under 10 seconds. Is it too hard to imagine that this might be true. Our unwavering, demanding fanbase cant fathom how anyone would want or hope to see the younger receivers step up and take time away from Swift and Petersen. Maybe they are the best, maybe they arent, but to even think the notion that 2 of our players are not worldy, but very average (as is some peoples opinion of the 2) is almost considered heracy. Why is it that the other side of the argument can hold no merit for people. I for one dont care who plays as long as they earn the spot, but do many of us forget or just plain overlook the facts from the past, like numerous dropped balls, a regular occurence of inability to separate or just plain get open. However, mention that you would like to see different WR step up and take the field, I Dare You, if you do you had better buckle up for it will be a bumpy almost scary ride. It simply amazes me how as a whole we can demand greatness, demand championships, but cant accept that to get there, our favorite player might not be the best choice at his position. I know this is long and off subject in comparison to most posts. i also realize that i am about the furthest thing from a well versed person as you will find thus meaning that my point is not well explained in most likelihood. I am just curious the reasons behind this. I have a few friends, friends of my parents, in their 60's that have been life long husker fans. Thaey have repeatedly made the statement that "even though Football is king in this state, we have the most ignorant fan base they have ever seen." For the longest time i simply dismissed this notion but having been on the message board for approximately a year, i find myself leaning in their direction more and more each day.
