  1. i agree with a lot of people have something to prove. however, keller will have the ball in his hands every play. i seriously think he could be a tremendous player next year and ruud knows how to get it done and i see him stepping into a senior role (and i agree Mckeon!!) will bring a REAL fire back to the blackshirts....

i guess the biggest breakout performance i would like to see is from Cosgrove and Callahan. call a college game from start to finish, make adjustments every game and during games, and go for the FU#*ING JUGGULAR!!

  2. my guy to watch is sam keller. the running game will be improved, the o-line will be too. i think he has a HUGE chip on his shoulder after ASU blew it. he wants to go pro and this is his last season to prove it. just watch! all of taylor's single season records are going bye-bye!

on defense, i think ruud will finally earn some of the sometimes generous hype he gets. a new position and senior leadership--i think he plays huge!

  3. bowman is our best WHEN HE COMES BACK. you can't teach speed or height. he will be hungry and ready to prove himself. the answer to all our problems? hardly. a great addition to depth and pure atheleticsm? yes. any time you can get your best players on the field, DO IT! and that includes moving players around.

look at a guy like bobby newcombe. he played about 6 postitons while he was here. BJAX returned kicks last year!! grant wistrom was on kick coverage as a junior!! simply put, get the play makers on the field...if bowman can play he will, and he will make a difference.

  4. yeah, i thought congdon was going to get better and better...but never really did. went from young clutch leg to somewhat of a liability. coaches determine how they're going to call the kicking game for a game by watching pre-game kicks from all angles. they have a coach to report to the head coach about how he's doing from distance, wind, angles, etc...obviously they didn't think they could count on jordan for a large portion of the kicks the last couple years. i hope we rarely have to rely on kicking to win (TD's baby!!) but if we do, have a kicker who is ice! a real must for '07.

  5. who is going to be our kicker this year? is there a race (competition for the job)? will he be better than congdon? (wasn't congdon a freshman all-american?) where is he from? i remember reports during spring, but haven't heard much since. i think this is a terribly overlooked weakness of ours.

and i basically have the same questions about our punter. any info would help so i can be filled in.

wait, one more...who is our special teams coach?

  6. another reason for trick plays is it makes every team thereafter (whether they worked or not) have to take valuable practice time to cover some of them up. it's almost like a 4th dimension: offense, defense, special teams, trick plays. there was one team we played in college who did swinging gate PAT's and everyday our coaches would get so pissed that week cuz we had to basically learn a whole new scheme for just a couple of plays to defend.

i think callahan used so many trick plays against colorado because he knew we would beat them and wanted to make sure whoever we played in the B12 championship had to take A LOT of practice time to prepare...i like them and i think they're great.

  7. i think it's relevent. i admit i worry about the status of MO. but when troops are leaving their families, a petty (2 times charged) criminal gets press--we should support our fellas over seas, especially when they are leaving right from downtown. i travel A LOT, and see troops in lots of airports. many times i think about their lives and sacrifice as i go about my day, they make it possible for me to be able to pursue. young kids who cheer for our team should expect the players to be held to a higher standard of conduct...play for Nebraska, and the troops who fight for that priviledge. left field? RIGHT field.

  8. the best. i was on 2-4 sites a week for about 5 months before i chose this one. a great mix of young and old, die-hards and crazies, out-of-towners and local-- plus facts, from the horses mouth, and old and current topics. basically all the fix for a cornhusker junkie!! can i get a DNA test? you guys are feeling like family!!!

  9. i'll agree jsg is pretty cool. if he had board to comment on for his own team, he would be there. he actually has some good insight into the Big 12 north and at least KU. but c'mon, most of the players lost are to graduation or draft. this happens every year to every school. i mean, i heard chris leak is gone from florida...did you? what will they do?

  10. Dr. Tom Osborne was right. the Big 12 will leave the North shortly lacking the South. KU has b-ball, KSU will never be great yr in yr out, ISU--any questions?, Mizzou-c'mon!, CU-uuuhhh, okay. the only Stand-Up citizen is Nebraska. therefore N must dominate and then WIN the big 12 championship to even the tide and make this a two division race every year. i don't completly agree with the whole article, but i don't disagree with it either.

  11. the only thing i garner from this is:

    1. a former husker has pride in the program and has trust in the direction

    2. a super bowl winner who understands the WCO from the inventor of the WCO

    3. speaking positively about the program and seems to follow the players and coaches progress

i think its great and if he can influence the players to believe...then bonus.

    Go Big Red

  12. i think he WILL have an impact. anytime you can get your best players on the field it is good. even if it's 2-4 games into the season. the competition level will go up, if one corner is struggling and bowman comes back you can move people around to get better. the team will be energized and more pumped when he comes back. the morale will be higher. do i think he is superman? no, but he has shown that he has the skills to be 1st or 2nd team all conference, and that type of player, we need on the field.

just a side note on injury and recruiting: this is why it is SO important to have 4 QB's, running backs, DBs, etc..

that are all really good. if some are disgruntled and leave or have bad attitudes, then they don't deserve to be here anyway. stiff competition and not letting players get complacent is really important, everyone can get better by it. think about last year we had 4 good backs. now we might have 2. what if Taylor had gone down? injuries to bowman really hurt us. you can NEVER have enough great players. never.

  13. c'mon! don't talk about him hanging himself. that's pure fodder. unnecessary. he has a LOT of life to live, it's just a question of whether part of it will be with the Nebraska football team. i know you were just being rhetorical but that's a little too far.

  14. kind of entertained the thought of d=line myself for baker. then thought of the team next. imagine a kid anchoring the o=line for 4 years. not having to worry about a position for that long and having dominating play week in and week out in practice and games...it will make everyone around him better for at least 3 years.

  15. yeah mostly around older ku fans who knew the dominance. they were giving respect like, 'well, 50 more to go and it's a rivalry' etc... not really near the students and stuff. but compared to the kstate fans? i was at the 30-29 and feared for my safety. except they're all wussies. overall, the ku fans were ay least respectful.
