having a dad who was a college coach for more than 15 years i can say i remember when more than a few of his players ended up in the drunk tank. i used to ask what he was going to do. often his response was--i'll wait to see what everyone has to say and decide based on the discussion FIRST with the player then with the authorities and then down the list...in the meanwhile an untold probation was placed on the player and meetings with the assistant coaches, teachers, friends, etc... helped decide what action should be taken. YES a high profile player in a high profile school should be more careful but we CANNOT judge and dole out punishment til its decided by those best fit to render what it needs be.

i remember when the cornhuskers were always good, they had a talented yet underrated group of linebackers. this year, barring injury, we should have that form. in college, you must stop the run and LBs are a huge part of that, as well as blitzing and pass coverage. i think they were down a bit last year for a number of reasons; but this year could be a turn-around. what opionions do you have on how they will be used (whichever d we use): as experienced group who holds down the fort and makes a majority of the plays, or more blitz oriented, big play type backers? i personally like when they are good enough to make disruptions and yet experienced enough to make sound tackles. ...maybe blitz players... with responsiblities. (i know a lot depends on the DBs and DLs, but this is about our feelings towards the LBs and how we would like them to be used.)

my little bro and i actually started to cry when they won. nothing big just sort of small tears for all the years of frustration. then, after thanking God we got down wit da noize!

just get there early and you can move around the heaven pretty easily. its cool to check out different views of different seats and other parts of the heaven you haven't maybe seen before. of course unless you sneak in beverage, this may cut ino socializing.

i am glad the games are switching too. however i did like the fact that the games were played at nite when not a lot of other shiz were going on. and for some reason, it seemed the announcers did favor N a little bit, or am i wrong? but primetime, HD is what i'm sizzlin!

one thing i worry about is assistant coaches defecting, if we keep winning. one thing with the old regime most of the coaches were from NE, played for NE or were somehow related to the Univ and never wanted to leave. that does play a big role in keeping continuity, being able to make it through adversity and attract quality talent that knows his recruiting coach will be there for the long haul. even replacing postion coaches can have an effect, at my college we had 3 DEnd coaches in my 4 years and it sucked to have to form a new bond every year. i hope the assistants at N are dedicated long haul like callahan is.

yes, i know what you are talking about. some kind of supreme confidence that WE controlled the game. not playing on our heels. now when one guy gets excited, the others look at him like--anyway, i think that passion will come back after a win over texas or usc.

first off, i think usc is pretty dominate. 2 NC's, 3 heisman's, top 5 recruiting, etc... it can be done, just not the 'old nebraska way.' there used to be over 100 scholarships, now there is 85 i believe. there used to be freshman teams (no freshman could play varsity), there were no limit to the number of 'part-time' and full-time coaches. there were more hours for coaches and players to meet. there were less games in a season. there were no conference championship games, etc... in other words, the 'college football' game was about kids (for nebraska, a lot of homegrown and walkons) going to a college and becoming great COLLEGE football players. with the abolition of the above rules it has become more of a professional atmosphere. kids want to play right away, or they transfer. coaches are on an extremely hot carousel, which means frequent changes and BIG money. less scholarships means no more stockpiling players and keeping very loyal kids in-state. less practice time means a quicker tempo and less developement for non-starters.

now that callahan has been in the college system a few years, i think we will see some great strides. i remember him saying the biggest difference from pro to college was the amount of time he could spend with the players. he needed players to step in and play NOW (hence the juco explosion). now that he has had time to sift through the wannabe's and redshirt for the future we can watch some developement and grow some local talent and find great players destined for the pro's mixed with loyal in-state and walk-ons who only want to be huskers. buy into the system and start a cycle of 5 star's with corn-feds and i think streaks will start to build again. k-state, ku, colorado, ISU--they don't have the luxury of our tradition. they will never compete year in and year out. they will go through what we have been going through every 5-7 years. we are lucky it's only been 3 years in 50. go big red.

opps!! mistaken--he was a freshman in fall of 71. senior fall of 75', the year they won the big eight. finished school spring of 76'. played with tony davis, vince ferragamo, wonder monds, etc...

i think great teams make plays when they have to. officiating is part of the game. the only sad fact is that the cornhuskers dropped in the next week's poll despite a win, allowing michigan to squeak their butts in the picture.

well, i've been reading on this board for about 5 months and finally decided to get registered N the big red army. i was born in lincoln 76' when my dad and mom were still in school there. my dad was a tight end for the huskers from 72-77' and played on the big eight championship team. he gave me his ruby red ring when i graduated high shcool. his home jersey to my little brother. his away jersey to my older brother. he later was a graduate assistant and we got to go to the orange, sugar, and fiesta bowls. i've been through everything as a husker fan, especially since i lived part of my life in kansas. all the gay-state friends called 700 times when they finally upset us. the bowl droughts. the 'corn-fed' jokes. the N for 'knowledge' jokes. but also for utter 90's dominance. the scoring machine. laughing as warren sapp sucked air in the 4th. option left. west coast right. heismans. sea of red. now i have a son, he will carry on. tradition, excellence, values, loyalty, winning. GO BIG RED.
