  1. Because I live in CO I am hearing a lot of CU hype

they had the spring game on TV again earlier this week. First time I had watched it in its entirety.
They did not look big, physical, or dynamic. Then I remembered they lost/cut some 30+ payers from that team. So, they will be a different team come fall.
But still, even w a revamped team from head to toe, it’s hard to imagine they don’t get kicked in the teeth this first year and sorta collapse.
My worry would be that their hype last’s 1-3 games before they take that collapse, which would include our game. We better just be better than them when we play them in hopes of them using a home game against a rival to steal one from us then lose terribly the rest of the season. They didn’t look that good on a rewatch, but who knows?
also, I’m really glad Prime isn’t out coach. He brings the gold n lightning but I don’t think he is who we needed.

Glad to see you're definitely someone who celebrates UCF's National Championship in 2017 and shames those who think Alabama won it.

    wut?

I did not invoke either of those schools or their wins or losses.
my point was…we can have an eye test of progress.  We are all very aware of our deficiencies. Which would be easy for us to determine some progress or success, even if it doesn’t lead to wins. Since we follow our DONU so closely we can see if we are getting better and Rhule is doing a good job. But there must be wins, which have been in short supply for 6+ yrs.

however, if Rhule doesn’t literally get the wins he too will be judged by his losses, not some perceived gains. He needs to win. That’s what counts.

where in the f did you get UCF and Alabama from my post?
thx for everything you do for this site, Mav, but don’t throw some things in on my post that I literally didn’t bring up.
    cheers

  3. When Frost didn’t run any no-huddle, up tempo break neck speed, confusion from day one I was pretty shocked. He had that learning and could’ve done some stuff with that even in spurts to disrupt the B1G.

one score losses at his rate meant discipline and detail lapses. I defended him til he was let go. If he even won 12 of the 25 he lost in one score games he might have his job.

I am absolutely on a wait and see w Rhule. Damn, I wanna see some consistency game to game. I think we take a big leap in the “eye” test category. Whether that equals wins, we shall see.
we know what progress looks like, hopefully it also means wins.

    Success is wins, period.

But we will all know what “progress” looks like

  4. bureaucracy destroys everything. literally everything.

damn, even our great football program. This sends shivers down my spine. If we can’t root out ‘sitting chairs and pencil pushers’ who have never done a f’ing thing in football but decide direction, we are finished as a program.

let alone our nation as a whole, but I digress. No wonder we are wandering.

  5. Yep.
but mine own desire for it to work under him clouded the obvious

22 six point losses (give or take) kept me circled in and thinking we were <—————> this close to having success.
slightly  eye opening to hear it out loud. Sounds like once he left (Domann) he realized it too.

  6. Not genuine. No accountability

sounds about right the last 5 yrs

and I was a huge Frost backer

shows what we think we know v what is actually going on behind closed doors.
But the onfield results and W/L confirms what he is saying

  7. ^^

Shoeless Joe Jackson stared at candle flames

jokes aside, when I was in 9th grade Barry Sanders spoke at a football camp I was at…shout out to Mile High Football Camp…

he said in his speech to us kids that he used to go to bed at night and “raise his core up”  focusing all his energy into his thighs and lower abdomen, he said it literally changed his center of gravity. He said if you visualize yourself mentally, you can make yourself do things you wouldn’t normally be able to do physically.

I miss the days of mysticism and mortal men becoming legend in sport. No one has fun anymore. (Or maybe we have sucked for so long we haven’t had a Crouch, Ameer, Suh, Green, Bell, Farley or Tomich to “wow” us).

  8. I’ve followed the Cornhuskers for 40 yrs. Starting in early 80s.  So I know all the lore and the heart break, then finally breaking through and being THE team in the 90s.

so if we back it up a bit, despite the fandom and the fanatics and the legend, knowing how Devaney struck gold….all that… but it’s like

What made Devaney a great coach? How did he get the greatness and turn a program around and win how he did, under him.

was he x and o, great recruiter, better scheme, etc…

he just did something that doesn’t possible nowadays. What was his gold?

  9. If for some reason Joseph was kept on staff and he is now no longer under prosecution, would we all be like….”see, he’s good! Glad we kept him! We waited until it was done in court and we have a great recruiter and coach. One of our own, let’s move on and let him do his job!”

Methinks not.  This went from a public issue that was handled by the courts as far as they could take it. Now it’s out of court and it is only personal now, better or worse.

N did the right thing letting him go.  Even tho it’s turned out this way (no more prosecution), we’ll never know all the facts or even innuendo. Let’s let this fade out and remain personal now. Maybe in 3yrs we may place Joseph in the “those no longer with us” thread if he gets a new job.

I am more interested when Thompson will throw and who our left tackle will be.
I can nearly guarantee the players aren’t thinking of this case anymore. We shouldn’t either.

hope the best for their family.

  10. Denver needs more Huskers.

my son was in cancer treatment at Childrens a few years ago and Trevor Simien came to visit the rooms.
we took a few pics then I asked him about Zaire and Janovich and how it felt playing in Lincoln whilst he was at NW lolol.

super nice guy and he was like…man you cornhusker fans are nuts for your team!

Trey to Denver would be great

That's my point he knows the expectation of effort coming into the season bc the lack of team success and individualism.  You don't need to teach kids that lesson to hustle.  The harsher punishment in the end is falling behind on the depth chart and or not playing and being part of the teams success.  Like I said it could be that he doesn't like the coaching style of EB.  I hope not.  But seeing that clip kinda reminds me of a certain player we have on the team now that is back who didn't mesh well with a certain position coach or you can say 2 players returning.

your stream of consciousness posting needs a little coaching:  Watch it, read some stuff. Think to yourself. Don’t post. Sometimes post. Practice those 5 steps. Unless you’re 3-5 beers in then by all means post away.

and absolutely you need to coach hustling. Even to 4-5* athletes. There are literally “hustle drills”. And at my college we used to practice “enthusiasm.”
literally practiced getting hyped on the sidelines after a scripted big play. Watch a scripted big play near our sideline and the whole team practiced jumping up and down and showing enthusiasm/hype. It seemed so stupid as a freshman, then it made perfect sense later on.

if you want to do something when it matters, you practice it. It worked very well. We were by far the most hyped and enthusiastic team in our conference and it wasn’t fake. We were always enthusiastic.

Coach made Allen do it twice because he was like 9 inches away from his jump cut on first try. That’s attention to detail which cost N very dearly in 25 games lost by 6pts or less over 5 seasons.  Then he gets the jump cut right but doesn’t finish correctly. Coach hollers at him for a 3rd rep and Allen is jogging downfield like “all good coach, I got this”. Coach hollers and he doesn’t listen. Screams, no listen, with instruction. Doesn’t listen. So coach like “aiiigjht, next man up…this mf’er ain’t listening to details on this one.”

that was be one player, one drill, 2 reps. But instead of letting it slide, he calls him out. I like it.
We been missing this. A lost. Dude ain’t gonna transfer for getting called out. And if he does, or anyone does…bye
But man, stop with the assumptions and cratering earth theories. Just chill and read and enjoy.

    That is false.

Truth is, the Huskers were 4-5 with Casey Thompson.

And with the exception of OU, the Huskers had leads in 3 of those games with Casey (4 if counting Illinois).  Defense was an issue.

Against NW, Casey and Huskers had a 28-17 lead in 3rd QTR, and all the momentum after scoring a touchdown.  The team was amped up.  But that momentum lasted about 30 seconds.... because of the onside kick attempt failed, which gave NW a short field, momentum, and soon a touchdown on that drive to close the gap and make it a game.  It gave new life to NW and the Huskers struggled on both sides of the ball after that. NW offense had 85 plays and 527 yards, converted 4 of 5 in redzone.

Against Georgia Southern, Huskers took lead 42-38 with 3:05 left in game. Not only did the Defense allow 642 yards to Georgia Southern on 86 plays, but the Husker's defense also could not stop Georgia Southern with a lead, at home, and lost the game.  GSU marched down the entire field a scored the winning touchdown with 00:36 left in the game.  Against the Blackshirt defense, one single GSU running back had 132 yards rushing on 10 carries, and their QB also passed for 409 yards.

Against Wisconsin, CT returned after missing 2 games, still playing injured, but the Huskers were up 14-3 going into the 4th quarter.  With 3:05 left in the game, Huskers leading 14-9, the defense could not stop Wisconsin and gave up the winning TD with 00:35 left in game.

The Illinois game was incomplete (Casey had the Huskers at home, leading #17 Illinois, early in the 2nd QTR 9-6, then the injury happened).  It was the most points scored against Illinois in a 1st half in 7 games. With 9 minutes left until halftime.  With Casey sidelined, Illinois took over, won the game, and improved to 7-1.

So, I disagree with "why run back 4-8 season" jab at Casey, because context matters a lot.  IMO the Huskers had opportunity to be 7-2 with Casey with a better defense and stupid decision making by the HC in the NW game.

and so it goes w the entire Frost tenure, and Mickey having to pull loose strings; which he did admirably.
Losing by 7pts or less was Frost’s greatest achievement.  Literally set the record in modern times. If Frost goes even 50% in one score games he might still have a job here.

Methinks, with an even slight advantage in discipline and “kill” mentality we win enough games next year to go bowling.
I’m excited to see what some discipline and an actual f’ing identity looks like.
hey Matt, establish a f’ing  identity. NOW.

he talked about the line of scrimmage. Man  v  Man.  B1G line em up type ball. He better not f this up. Hey Matt, get these boys fing tough. Hit them in the throat and see how it works out.

i, for one as a Nebraska fan, just want to see some fing tough players. Make those boys tough as fing nails and let the cards fall. Let’s at least be f’ing tough. Did I say tough? It can be recruited and it can be taught.
