  1. So besides the inability to win games (as has been our want for 6yrs) what are the negatives on MJ?
….I’m my view he should've insisted Purdy pulled early against Minn, along with a run play called against Wisc on last drive last week.
he should’ve insisted on taking more shots since he’s been the coach (more downfield shots).  He should’ve insisted we run some traps, draws, screens, and even some more trick plays. Basically, he should’ve taken more control of a losing season and just tried “pull out the stops” type of offense at least 2-4 times a game. So, he shoulda taken some control. Did he not do that cuz he can’t or cuz he’s just floating w what we have?

On defense I think he should’ve insisted we bring more pressure, more press coverage. Disguise late pressure and be balls to the wall type defense. What is HIS actual philosophy? Did we see it play out over his interim?

Positives:  he did bring a new fire into players on a lost season. I do think his players believe in him and want to play hard for him. We haven’t won enough close games (per as usual) but damn, what he took over I’m proud to still watch and cheer. He’s focused and has largely kept the team together and the recruiting class.

he’s been blown out twice in his interim, won a couple and been damn close in a couple more.

I don’t think he had to get to a bowl to deserve the job, I just use my eye test. My eyes tell me he’s doing juuuust good enough to be considered but not well enough to win the job.
However, if given the stability of a 3yr contract let’s say, I think if he trims the fat (some coaches, S&C, some players)  and brings his players and full system of people as good or better than him; I think I would be okay w him being retained. Barely.

so that’s my thoughts on Joseph.

on the other hand, if we can get a guy in here who just absolutely capitalizes on the talent we have w his coaches, and has a clear and direct path for us to win 6-7 games (if we win 3 or our 1score games this year we are at 6 already) I’m down for that.

Short story long, if it’s Joseph I’m barely okay w that but I think he’d do better than our last 2.
But if it’s a coach that just f’ing coaches the details better and f’ing has a better buy in now and just grows and grows from there I’d take that. Can a new coach bring that?

anyway we shake it, we’ll find out real soon if we have the talent most of us think we have (besides O&D lines, no one thinks we are good on those fronts) we will have a good idea if any coach can win more right away or if it’s a total rebuild.

That was long but it’s my response to 700pages of following this thread

  2. We run ZERO of these:

draws, traps, screens, QB option, hitches, reverses, pump n goes, or misdirections.

our offense is the easiest to defend in the history of football. Also, our o-like sucks balls

what are we, like, 5-23 in one score games the last 5 yrs? One score games.

  3. I was gonna post something but remembered to remind myself not post after 4 beers or 12am.

fortunately for me I’ve had 5 beers and it’s well past midnight. So I won’t embarrass my self any more that to suggest Tom Sawyer by Rush, Edge of the Ocean by StickFigure, and Paradise by 311.

see you Monday morning, ya stinkfist (by tool)

  4. I bet we lose by 6

to keep our new tradition alive of losses by 7pts or less .  We are what, 5-23 in 1 score games over the last 5 yrs?  Or some ridiculous stat of “can’t we just win one of these”.

or we gets our teeth kicked in 56-10 and they pull their horses midway thru 3rd qtr.

now we know how KU, OK Lite, KSU, ISU, CU, and our non-con felt for 60yrs.

we are tie “we got this, don’t worry” game for top 10 teams now. Ugggghhh.

  5.

watched that 60min interview. Took me into a wormhole, found this. Dude pumped up his team talking about parking passes, cheerleaders, and the band.
not sure his x and o coaching is good (he’s winning a lot so it must be decent) or any of his football philosophy, but man this is what football is all about.  Men v Men, take that respect when they don’t respect you. I know he’s not getting hired here and not sure if he’s even a great coach but I love the fact he uses football to teach young men how to earn, demand, and win respect. There is a lot of disrespect in our culture (I have a teenage son lol)  and this man is teaching people to earn respect.

The top programs have every single cushy, flashy, brash assed s#!t to offer kids who are good at football but haven’t earned that skybox, jersey, or cleats yet. I admire what he’s doing, especially for that community and league.

It’s a different world at Alabama, Mich, NU, and USC, but this simple speech actually gravitates young men to follow his ideals and rise above into greater things. I’m glad he’s doing what he’s doing, using football to teach greater things.

TO has nothing to do with this video, except just be in it

  6. Hopefully Trev has a great handle on all of this.

im gonna trust that he’s reaching out to all the right people for references, checking style of play, watching what Mickey is doing, and doing the hard work behind the scenes.
He might be the most pivotal AD we’ve had in 15yrs + to get it right. I’m gonna trust he’s doing his due diligence.

  7. I’ve been on the fence about MJ. If he wins some games keep him! If he loses, well we are who we are.
but now I’m kinda like….man that guy has infectious energy, his guys play hard, he loves N and wants it to work.

any thoughts on his actual scheming skills, development? The B1G has some smart, old, wise coaches. Will he get out-coached often and will he get the most out of 3* guys? Cuz if you can only get 3* guys, you better get the most out of them and not get out-coached.

but we don’t want to be NW or Iowa who has a decent season here or there. Can MJ provide that? I think he could if he gets his staff. We still have some baggage to unload and could get better real quick with those new coaches.

Need to show this to the ‘if it weren’t for lightning during Akron warmups, Frost might still be here’ crowd.

man, I was at that game and we woulda beat them 56–10.  Such juice, we were on the brink of berserk. Then everyone just trickled out. Shot the wad, let down, curse or whatever. It was real.

W a warmup game v Akron before CO might of cut down on the mistakes that lost us that CO game.  Maybe ends the same over 4 yrs but that lost game will always haunt/be the ghost of a regime that never gained traction and as it tuned out, fools gold.

You looked at the stats and somehow think they show an even matchup?

Yep. Did you look at the chart?

they have a stingy defense. But penalties, 3rd down conversions, turnovers, our rush pg, their rush pg etc…several other half way stats are pretty similar.
looks a little even to me. Like I said at the end of my post: because we have some buy in and unity, coupled w some wins it’ll come down to “who wants it”.  We are playing w a new attitude. So I think we are evenly matched.

What say you? Are they markedly better based on that chart? (Like put up the N v Mich and I’d say we gonna get blown out probly)

  10. Rutgers really picked on Hartzog last week. Then he made some great plays late. I hope he can clean some stuff up.

Enough stats half way through to tell the tale, looks like an even matchup. Gonna come down to Oline and turnovers, let as usual.

what I like the last 2 games is that we have some unity and fight. Let’s see if it’s real.

  11. F it, we won.

could nit pick all day but won’t. We just need to win, which we did.

O line is not good, at all. No answers except some screens, draws, traps, and counters

to keep opposing D at least a little off balance. The reverse didn’t work but we need that, keep ‘em honest. Actually pulled the guards a couple times on misdirection, need that too. If we can’t  block, we gotta fool em..glad we tried. It’s been missing, o line scheme.

D came off the bench after a punt block and 2 int and held up.
we’re not playing tight anymore so good to see, now gotta clean up punching ourselves in the d!(k.

Cornhusker nation is strong. Watched the game at a local watering hole and there were a dozen of our closest friends goin nuts. Strong Nation, we have. We love our team and got the W, get behind this team and enjoy it tonight. We won.

    • Oh Yeah! 1
  12. We win.
that’s all that matters for the next 36 hours.

congrats boys. Never ever gave up and found a way to snatch it. The last 6 yrs, that game was a loss all day long. Winning is infectious, but we’ve had a losing infection.

I haven’t seen these Cornhuskers gut out wins for YEARS. Yet here we are: ugly, glaring, awful terrible mistakes. But winners, none the less.

Husker Power and good good vibes for a little while at least.

  13. man o man, I wish Frost woulda worked out here. What a 25 yr career we coulda enjoyed w him. Just could NOT get over the hump.  Actually  the last 2-3 weeks I’m even a little more sad now than when they announced. But I’m on board w it.

I think, unfortunately most of the coaches remaining here are DOA w new staff. (Maybe keep MJ, Busch, to a lesser extent Whip ‘age’)

im not gonna suggest any names cuz I don’t know what others know, but we need a coach who gets both Linemen in order ASAP.  That, honestly is our way back. I’d prefer an offensive guy who most of all values Oline (just ghastly nasty players), overall team toughness, and an attacking D.

    FROST! FROST…why o why.

    on to the next

I think taking Casey out after he takes a sack holding the ball for EVER was the right call. Even if the Purdy play giving Indiana a TD was the price to pay. The message sent in the sideline may have had something to do with Casey’s motivation to only miss one play after the shoulder plant & the entire offense to execute that near perfect time-consuming March for a TD in the 4th.

I did not see the game on TV, but from this clip it appears that MJ is following Casey after Whipple rips Casey a new one. I’d love to know what MJ said, but I’ll bet it was something to build him up & not let him get OVERLY down on himself. I’m sure he didn’t contradict what Whipple said, but MJ’s emotional intelligence surely showed in what he said to Casey afterwards.  (Did any sports reporter ask about this?) Good coaching is about knowing when to bend a player over to kick his butt - but then when to stand him back for a pat on the back.

Don’t think we ever saw that from Frost. Just competitive ripping. Get it out, get on with competing. Kids are soft af these days but sometimes they need a little juice. I like it. Especially MJ following up and good cop/bad cop

  15. Fair enough. I know that rule and it sucks lol.
when everyone is set and all subs are in and ready to go, they just sit there over the ball and no one can play…it’s stupid even if correct.
I was just giving an example of all the refs on tv instead of players playing.
just got sick of them on the screen

  16. It wasn’t just the flags. All those reviews, the delay when IU was trying to snap the ball, premature whistles, watching individual players instead of the “whole game”. We come to watch football not zebras. 19 combined penalties in the 1st half.
Two not very good teams, yes. Make it worse on every play? No.

  17. Learned:

the refs were awful for sides. The B1G needs to review that crew and demote. Refs could call a penalty on every football play in every game. These guys did that and it was just awful.

despite the termination of their coach, there appears to be players that love playing for each other and appreciate a sold out stadium, playing for Nebraska.

MJ had fire and passion and it bled into his players. So great to see

Palmer, Grant, CT, and some elder players stood up and took victory from the jaws of defeat.

we actually can attain some goals this season.

  18. My brother plus his 4 are going to the game this week from Ft Collins.
Also planning a trip w my 69 yr old dad and 2 brothers for later in the season, 3 from CO one from Nashville.

gonna take my 2 kids to a game as well, from CO, just we 3.

I don’t care if it’s “sold out” or not. Many people plan to go to games, many come from miles. If you can go, go. Don’t not go if you can just to spite some weird thing like a sell out streak.

I finally see what everyone in the nation says “what else is there to do?”  Well hell, if you can go to the game…go. What else you gonna do?
    go to the damn game.
