  1. Why would he even be looking at K-state in the list of schools that he is interested in? Has he no confidence that he can compete and play somewhere else? Or is he just looking to go somewhere he can play for sure. Yeah, K-State is under a new coaching staff, and I am sure they are talking up the direction they are heading...but come on - really?:laughpound

Umm, 1 of 2 schools to offer?

Neither Nebraska nor Missouri may end up taking him, so I think he had better act interested in KSU if we wants to play Big 12 football. Of course there is always the Big Televen and Illinois. :LOLtartar:

  2. The 'Canes, meanwhile, "have got to be the biggest story nobody's talking about," said Newberg. "We had 28 players ranked four stars or higher in Dade or Broward Counties. How many [signed] with Miami? Two. It's a head-scratcher." Fourth-year coach Randy Shannon seemed to be reclaiming the school's backyard in recent years but took a major step backward, barely finishing among Rivals' Top 25 classes.

  3. Well whatever position, he sounds like our kind of guy:

“Our lead guy in the class is 6-foot-1, 218-pound linebacker Jephette Matilus,” he said. “He’s probably the leader of our defense.

“He’s like a monster, his motor doesn’t stop. He’s well conditioned and runs sideline to sideline. I wish I had more kids like that. He’s just a good player, an old school player that doesn’t mind being very physical.”

  4. FYI the list of a top 5 I posted previously was apparently taken out of context. He had no favorites.

I'd be surprised if he picked Texas this early as he wanted to check out the Alabama schools, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.

  5. Dad went to Ohio State and coaches for the Bears.

Here is an article about him and his teammate, DaVaris Daniels:

    The sons also rise

Vernon Hills High football stars following in footsteps of their famous fathers

Living six doors away from each other since the sixth grade, Vernon Hills High football stars DaVaris Daniels and Evan Spencer have found enough in common through the years to become best friends.

Juniors on a successful 8-2 Cougars team that has already racked up an IHSA Class 5A playoff win, the pair are also sons of prominent NFL fathers.

DaVaris' dad is Washington Redskins defensive end Philip Daniels (who formerly played for the Bears) and Evan's dad is Bears running-backs coach Tim Spencer, a former NFL player and the third-leading rusher in Ohio State history (behind Heisman Trophy winners Archie Griffin and Eddie George ).

    ...

"We'd like to go to the same school," said Evan, as DaVaris nodded his agreement. "But we'll have to see how things play out."

Vernon Hills coach Tony Monken believes that any university would be glad to have either player.

"Both are great young men who work hard and are very humble," said Monken. "There's no arrogance at all about either of them."

    ...

"Evan," Monken continued, "runs stronger with the ball. He's become much more physical. As a receiver he's excellent at going up and getting it ... at catching the ball away from his body."

  6. A verbal commitment from a 13-year-old is worth about as much as a message board post.

Former USC basketball coach Tim Floyd also used to get verbal commits from 13-year-old kids. And how did that work out for Floyd?

    :yeah

Besides a commitment from 13-year-old is about reliable as a pro wrestlin' referee.

  7. Not sure if he was planning to take the ACT this Saturday (I seem to recall someone saying this but can't find it now), but with the big snow storm all of the tests around central Ohio are being cancelled, and Youngstown doesn't look like it's doing any better.

  8. They did very well for the most part, but Nebraska offered over 30 WRs. I'm guessing the coaches saw it is a position of need. I don't think the results in that area merit praise.

Oh, you never know. Our 2004 WR class had 3* Nunn, 3* Swift and a walk on named Peterson. I see some great things in film from Bell and Enuwa, if they both take a year to learn the system I can see some really great things coming from them.

Oh quite right. Those guys could be diamonds in the rough. I just dream of scoring a Julio Jones or A.J. Green-type who are goto WRs from the time they set foot on campus. One of those guys may develop into something like that, but I don't think they will crack the lineup for awhile. (Definitely have a chance to contribute on special teams early.)

And as far as gets, Safety was a big need and pulling Cooper has to rate up there.
